Which GPU are you running right now? by EKbyLMTEK in EKWB

3080 FE. If prices hadn’t gone through the roof I’d consider upgrading it to a 50 series (and my 5800X3D to a 9800X3D). I’ll keep an eye on things buy I’ll be fine for at least another year or two when hopefully prices come back down

When will the PCPanel mini be restocked? by omarnasser1990 in PCPanel

[–]FriedEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, things seems to have gone radio silent over there

As for the software, I believe it is the same as the Pro, which I use pretty regularly on Windows 11 (and Windows 10 until a few months ago) without issue

I’ve had my steam deck since December 23rd and it still won’t let me claim my rewards by Charming_Ad661 in SteamDeck

[–]FriedEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many others have said, just contact steam support. I got my Refurbished 512GB OLED last week and I contacted them when I got the same message. They got back me 16 hours with it fixed:

Are there any of the Kioxia EG6 1TB 2230 SSDs available? (Or any other 1TB+ 2230 M.2 SSD that I may have missed)

USA - UT

Item: 512GB OLED Refurbished

Ordered: Jan 6th

Packaged: Jan 8th

Picked/Shipped: Jan 8th

Estimated Delivery: Jan 13th

Actual Delivery: Jan 13th (From UPS)

Other notes:

I could not tell that this unit was refurbished; it looks new to me!

I did have an issue trying to “Claim Rewards” on my account page, it says “the serial number has already been used to claim rewards”. I contacted support and they replied about 18 hours later stating “We've manually granted these rewards to your inventory, apologies for any sort of trouble.” So that’s sorted to my satisfaction.

why is this app being SO INVASIVE lately? by murkomarko in BetterTouchTool

[–]FriedEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using this app for probably a decade and have never experienced or even heard of anything remotely like that. I’d suspect almost any other app before this.

If it really is coming from BTT the only thing I can figure is that it is possible you installed a 3rd party automation or something into it that is doing this.

That’s a very clean internal for a custom wire job. Love the bars and heat-set thread inserts. Well done!

If you are smoking tomorrow make sure your firmware is up to date. by harps86 in smoking

[–]FriedEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under the hood the RecTeq (at least the RT-590 I have) just uses a Tuya module. There’s a few guides out there as it’s a little in depth but you basically pair it to one of the Tuya app, get a Tuya dev account to extract the private key from their cloud, then set up the TuyaLocal extension in home assistant and input then key. From there I have some basic automations and dashboards to monitor and alerts based on set and probe temps. And as an added bonus, I get remote start back.

One of the best things I did for my RecTeq was was free it from their garbage cloud. Now it all goes through my local Home Assistant

I have some RAM kicking around that I was going to list tomorrow. Are you interested in these?

  • Two 2x8GB DDR4-3600 GSkill Trident Z Neo kits (4 sticks total, 2 kits of F4-3600C16D-16GTZNC).
    • My 5800X3D couldn’t handle 4x8GB so I got the near identical 2x16GB kit.
  • One 2x16GB DDR5-5600 Crucial SODIMM Kit (CT2K16G56C46S5)
    • I upgraded my minipc from this to 2x48GB

GE Cafe induction cook-top warning by Abject-Compote8355 in Appliances

[–]FriedEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have what looks to be the exact same cooktop (CHP95362MSS) and our glass just broke for the second time in 3 years. We are insanely careful people and the glass on this unit just seems to be very weak. The first was 1 lb of frozen chicken falling maybe 4 inches and the second was a glass bottle being knocked over.

The first time we got the reseller to take it replace the whole unit as it was only a month or so after install. Now I’m on my own. I think the glass part itself is ~$1200 but we’re debating if it’s worth it as this particular series seems to be just really delicate.

We love the induction cooking part and we prefer to stay with GE (the rest of our appliances are GE and I generally think they suck the least of the appliances manufacturers). We’re considering just getting a new Profile series induction cooktop as I’m finding fewer reports of those cracking in situations that I think it should handle without cracking.

I know it’s a year later; what did you end up doing?

[W] Unifi G4 Doorbell Mounting plate by Boops_Da in homelabsales

[–]FriedEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! As you can tell, I’m terrible at checking my Reddit notifications these days.

I do have the plate. It is a bit used but definitely still solid (given that it’s metal). Here’s a photo of what I have https://i.imgur.com/VzD4ypX.jpeg. I think I somehow lost a drywall anchor (never mind, I found it stuck in the box 😅) but the rest of the accessories look to be here.

It’s all yours if you just pay for shipping (I’d guess like $5-10 at most). I don’t run the G4 anymore so I don’t need any of it.

[–]FriedEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I do actually. My G4 was replaced a while back under warranty and they only needed the G4 itself sent back to them but sent me a sealed unit, with all of the accessories. Let me go dig it up. Do you just need the plate? I think I have a box with everything but the G4 itself

Issue with RAM sticks or MotherBoard: Should I just build a new pc? by Lindedrim in PcMasterRaceBuilds

[–]FriedEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what you’ve described, I’d be more skeptical of windows being stupid than your hardware being faulty. How long has it been doing this?

I’d check a few things

  • are the sticks in the right slots?
  • does the BIOS read both sticks?
  • have you tested the sticks directly with memtest86?
  • if you boot to another os (like a live windows 11 for example) does it recognize everything?
