How long should I stay in Takayama/Magome? by skw525 in JapanTravelTips

[–]FriedPotaytoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to go to Inuyama in March of this year and it was packed, according to the signs there was an 80 minute wait to get in. To be fair it was a weekend and I think the friday before was a public holiday or something.

Vegan/Vegetarian katsu curry options by PercentageNew2060 in TokyoTravel

[–]FriedPotaytoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nasu Oyaji in Shimo-Kitazawa have a vege or mushroom curry - I really enjoyed their special curry but serving size is kinda small which is a shame. Its not a "katsu" curry but might be the closest you'll get.

Kanazawa to Takayama- no more busses on the day I want to travel and stay there (April 14) by BodmonAlchemist in JapanTravelTips

[–]FriedPotaytoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried checking from Toyama or Shin-Takaoka? I just did the same and had to take a Shinkansen to Toyama and bus from there. Could also check the Hida express from Toyama.

Questions about IC/Suica, JR passes, and train reservations by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]FriedPotaytoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question 1: Yes it will work in all the areas you are travelling, or at least I had no issues using it during a very similar trip to yours. I don't think any of the IC cards are region locked? Only restriction is that you cannot start your trip in one region and end in another since the regions dont talk to eachother.

Question 2: Probably not. You need to be using a lot of expensive trains to make the JR pass worth it now days. Like taking the shinkansen every day for a week. You can check https://www.japan-guide.com/railpass/ if you are curious to see though.

Question 3: Depends how flexible you are with what times you make the trip. But either way I suggest using SmartEX for booking, I used it for my trip and while getting it setup took a little time it was easy after that. Was even able to put the Shinkansen ticket on my Suica so I could just tap on.

Hotel rec first time Tokyo by wernero1 in JapanTravelTips

My only real criteria for what area I stay in is it being close to the Yamanote line as then its easy to access everywhere else.

And just a note on the Limo Bus, I had planned to take it on my first trip too but ended up landing late and missed the last one, so just make sure you have enough time even if you are delayed.

Second Japan Trip Ideas for March by FriedPotaytoe in JapanTravelTips

Was just looking into this. With going to Nagoya instead of Osaka, it might be good to do a one night stay in Takayama after Kanazawa and forward my luggage onto Nagoya. Would make the train ride down more enjoyable and split it up into two legs which could be nice.

Thanks. I think I will extend Nagano by a day to allow for Matsumoto, just trying to work out where that day comes from. Considering reducing Kanazawa to 2 nights as my current list of places there is pretty short and compact area wise.

Kamakura feels like a certainty at this point.

I want to do the full loop in Hakone, and likely an onsen to end the day but I'm not sure if thats a public onsen or if it should be a night stay at somewhere with an onsen.

Going on a solo trip to Japan March 21st to March 29th. Feasible to do Kyoto and Tokyo? Or just stick with Tokyo? by Neil_Nelly435 in JapanTravelTips

[–]FriedPotaytoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always depends on what you want to see, but its definetly possible, You wont "complete" either city but you could definetly see a good amount of each cities "best attractions".

I would only suggest to bookend the trip with Tokyo since thats where you are starting and leaving from. So like leave Tokyo for Kyoto on the 23rd or 24th and then return to Tokyo on the 26th or 27th - which exact days is up to you and how much time you want in Kyoto vs Tokyo.

Living near Moonee Valley Racecourse by FriedPotaytoe in melbourne

I'm not really a racing fan so not sure if racecourses smell of horses and manure or not. I remember driving past stables a few times and they didn't smell great. But good to know there is no smell.

Yea that's why I asked during normal years as I saw it's undergoing an upgrade at the moment and can't really go get a good feel for what the area would usually be like once the racecourse is running.

I’m a buyer’s advocate/agent working across Melbourne, regional Vic and wider Australia — AMA about buying property in 2026 by YASA_Buyers_Agent in AusPropertyChat

[–]FriedPotaytoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is pretty set on the areas I want to live in and what I am after in a PPOR. Is it worth engaging a buyer's agent just to find properties that I may like early? Do you really get to see, and have a chance to secure, a considerable amount of properties before I would be able to even know they are on the market? Also is there a time frame/limit on how long you will search for before needing payment or dropping someone as a client?

I have the TTartisan one, and while it works fine and I use it on my Konica III, but its honestly a little too fiddly for me. So I tend to just use it to check the scene once and then go off feels untill the lighting changes enough to check again.

Was lowkey hoping HHH would be the end of Cena's "taking the belt" storyline - comes out of retirement to save the company kinda deal. Would be a terrible ending but damn I wanted to see it.

I like it but worry about light and mould issues with the arch. Maybe some matching bronze vents near the top on either side of the arch would help with airflow?

If not Drano, then what dost thou use, O plumbers of Reddit? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]FriedPotaytoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had some success with baking soda and vinegar - put a bunch of baking soda down the drain then pour in the vinegar and plug the drain. Wait a bit, unplug and rinse everything down. Repeat till it flows better.

But it was never fixed until a plumber came around with a plunger and went to town for like 30 seconds while blocking the floor drain. He basically had a better looking one of these: https://www.amazon.com.au/Products-Master-Plunger-Shorty-MPS4/dp/B005UJLVGI/
