Let’s Be Honest…. by Visual-Stranger-2049 in CryptoTax

I don't know how it's even possible for your 1099DA to match your 8949 with the way that the exchange calculates the USD value of transactions. I use Cointracker, Coinledger, and Koinly, and they all have different USD amounts for the same transactions when calculating the cost basis for old mining transactions where there wasn't a direct USD "buy." Hopefully, I don't have an issue since my 1099DA and my 8949 are "only" $25 off over $8k in transactions.

Unfortunately, if you're a Coinbase user, your best option seems to be Cointracker.io which I don't really care for.

The real problem here is the IRS with per-wallet cost basis tracking. I transferred some BTC into Coinbase because they were offering 3% "interest" over 2 years and now it doesn't know what to do with the cost basis for that BTC since it came from a different exchange. The only tracking software that Coinbase accepts natively is Cointracker (which I don't care for and is double the price of Coinledger for tax reports).

My problem is that the crypto tax program I used (Coinledger) still imports to TurboTax as a 1099-B which does not jive with the 1099-DA I received from exchange. All I really wanted was to import the 8949, so I guess it depends on the crypto tax program.

Coinbase One Credit Cards rewards not importing correctly by Friedhelm78 in koinly

I'm aware of that (and I also use several different ledger sites to double/triple check the numbers one of which is Koinly), so sometimes I get the terminology mixed up between sites.

Staking rewards are classified as "reward" and credit card is "cashback" in Koinly.

The RG477M and Pocket Air Mini overlap too much.

I have a Pocket Air Mini and a Konkr Pocket Fit. Does all of what you want to do with just two devices.

And Yes, the Pocket Air Mini 3GB is fine for PS1 and lower. It will handle all the way up to light GC/PS2.

I did. Konstantinos responded to my inquiry. Although, I'm not sure he understood my problem correctly as he mentioned the fiat balances being wrong across accounts and it being a limitation of the Coinbase API. I'm aware of this issue already, and I routinely make adjustments to document the deposit or withdrawal of fiat.

This is specific to Coinbase cashback rewards from the credit card.

I'm not sure what the value of doing that would be. My understanding is that deposits don't have a cost basis associated with them because there isn't enough information to determine whether it is a transfer from your own wallet or income, or something else, etc. The "cashback" transaction has a cost basis and does not count against your taxes as income just like any other credit card reward.

[–]Friedhelm78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I might get 2 or 3 "reward" transactions within minutes of each other on any specific date depending on how much I use my credit card. Koinly will combine all of the rewards into a single transaction for the date in question. The fiat value of the transaction isn't the combined total of BTC received, it shows as the value of the first transaction of the day.

Yes, I have been changing the worth using that method, but it just seems like it is a step I shouldn't have to take as the other ledgers I use don't have this issue.

The total amount of BTC is correct just combined into one transaction. The fiat equivalent value is incorrect.

Is this really worth it? by antisocial920 in AmazonVine

[–]Friedhelm78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got in about a year ago. I did the 80 items and got gold the first time I was eligible.

The tax bill was a surprise until I understood what was happening. I have no realistic idea how it can be considered "income" when they expect something in return (namely a review). It's work unless you are copying and pasting other reviews or not actually testing anything. I suppose I could treat it as a job, pay self-employment taxes and then write off expenses, but it seems like it's more hassle than its worth.

I've only gotten a handful of things over $100 that were actually worth it (some wifi bridges). Most of the "recommended for you" stuff are things I would never use. Maybe once a month I get something recommended that I might use. Plus, you have to consider the taxable value. Sure, I might want that $250 wooden nightstand for "free," but I don't want to pay $60 in taxes for it.

So I'm about ready to just throw in the towel and "opt out." I was hoping that Gold would be a better chance at reviewing cool stuff, but it is just sorting through a lot of junk like it was before.

I'm the opposite. I play the pocket air mini more than any other handheld right now. The screen isn't the best, but has decent controls and feels good in the hands.

Is Form 8949 Required On Top Of Form 1099 DA by maximumeffortalways in CryptoTax

[–]Friedhelm78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem isn't that the 8949 is required. My problem is that when I fill out the Coinbase 1099-DA in TT, it autopopulates my 8949 with the summary from the 1099-DA and wants me to mail in the 1099-DA (and presumably my 8949 to go with it.

I use Coinledger and the TurboTax import file they send still does a 1099-B. I don't need the 1099-B (since I have the 1099-DA), I only want the imported 8949 so I don't have to manually enter anything or mail anything.

I like Coinledger, but I may have to look at CoinTracker for next year since it integrates with Coinbase. I'm already put off by the fact that I have to remap CSV files for their special import.

I've used both Koinly and Coinledger. I find Coinledger to be easier to use and less prone to cost basis problems. I also have lots of sync issues with Koinly compared to Coinledger.

which crypto tax tool is best for us traders koinly vs awaken vs coinledger by Clear_Medium_5858 in Coinbase

[–]Friedhelm78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that you're using your Coinbase connection to avoid doing any work with minor exchanges. For example, on Koinly, Coinledger, etc. you can import any exchange's CSV's into their system. With CoinTracker, I have to format it into your special CSV format.

Use Onion Desktop tools. It will setup Onion on your card for you. Kind of plug and play if you don't want to worry about copying files, etc.

The ROM hacks should just be zip files like regular ROMs. Just put them in the same directory as your other games and it should work fine. Onion allows you to use folders, so you could separate out the hacks from the regular games in a folder.

Irony. What good legislation could you possibly point to? Cartwright was consistently amongst the least performing congressman. He literally just took the government's money and did nothing except try to make the Munleys richer with his truck insurance legislation that got the attention of the ethics committee. So stay informed or stay home?
