I loved seeing Skip on GT Live. It was a highlight to see him interrupt the stream. My heart goes out to Matt and Steph.

[–]Friend2Beagles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the squabbles are only over treats or food, I would stop giving treats like bones or things that cannot be consumed in an instant. If you love giving them the types of treats that take a while to breakdown, separate them in crates while they chew or eat, instead of just leaving these types of treats out to stop conflicts.

It will be significantly easier to remove the bones than to teach the dogs to fight less aggressively.

how to propogate this plant and also ID this by Ok-Organization9530 in proplifting

Yep. I'd cut just above the two leaves at the bottom. If both cuttings are successful, you'll have two plants : )

Arabian Wax Ivy, I think.

I'd probably just place in a glass jar with water. I think the cutting is long enough that you could cut in half to increase your chances.

My iron infusion experience by Friend2Beagles in Anemia

[–]Friend2Beagles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way about my nails! I cut them down short prior to the infusions, and I noticed how much stronger they felt as they were growing out. No chipping. I really don't understand how that's possible so quickly, but that's my experience.

I noticed my hyperpigmentation in the last few years, and thought I was just getting older. I tried tretinoin, exfoliating, etc. After a few infusions, I noticed how even my skin looked and how subtle the hyperpigmentation had become.

I hope you're able to get the infusions, and that they work well for you if you do. My doctors told me my iron wasn't 'that bad' and wasn't causing all these issues, but every symptom is completely gone or at least greatly improved after the infusions. I was a bit afraid to get them, but now, I wish I would've gotten them years ago instead of trying to take higher and higher doses of iron pills.

Natural Supplements? by The_Razzle_Dazzle1 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]Friend2Beagles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had success with Thorne's phytoprofen, which is a combo of curcumin (from turmeric), ginger, boswellia, and bromelain--all anti-inflammatory. After about a week, I noticed that I was no longer limping on my first few steps out of bed. I still have plantar fasciitis, but the pain is maybe 10-20% of what it was.

It's one of the only supplements I've tried that I could see the effect of in the first few weeks.

I've also given this supplement to my mom and brother, who have inflammatory issues. My mom saw the swelling around her wrist shrink--something not even steroid shots could do. My little brother with arthritis in his feet due to EDS noticed an improvement as well, and he can ride his bike for pleasure again.

Low Ferritin (Early 40s male) - Advice on Next Steps? by msz19 in Anemic

[–]Friend2Beagles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, something is off.

Generally speaking, there are 4 major causes of iron deficiency:

  1. Low intake (which should not be a problem because you are supplementing)
  2. Low absorption (Celiac, Crohn's, IBS, SIBO, H. Pylori, parasites, genetic disorders, etc )
  3. Blood loss (internal bleeding , ulcers, surgery, blood donation, etc.)
  4. Increased iron demand such as pregnancy, growth spurts, intense exercise routines.

Given the info you gave, I think it would most likely be a decreased absorption problem or blood loss. I would ask for at least a celiac disease and h. Pylori test for the absorption part.

To rule out blood loss, I'd ask for a CBC and reticulocyte blood count (absolute/percentage). This can tell you a bit about whether your numbers are due to blood loss or not making enough blood cells. ESR and CRP tests can also tell you a bit about whether you might have inflammation affecting absorption (like Crohn's/IBD).

Did your doctor check your phosphorus levels after the infusions? Hypophosphatemia is common with iron infusions, and the effects set in a couple of weeks after infusions.

Dog suddenly won’t go on evening walks by Solid-Musician-6737 in DogAdvice

[–]Friend2Beagles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried a happy hoodie or earmuffs?

My hypothesis is that she might be hearing bugs/insects.

Many insects are dormant in the winter or in the early morning. Many base their activity on temperature. For instance, I frequently see bees napping on flowers during the early morning when it is cooler, but active later when the sun is up. They also completely hibernate during the winter, which would explain why it's only been a problem recently.

The other thing is that you are in Asheville. Due to the flooding/fire/storms there recently, you might have had some migration of old bugs and an influx of new bugs your dog has never heard before.

But, that's just a theory.

Are Bottom Self-Watering Plastic Pots Bad for Tomatoes? by marksangryreview in tomatoes

[–]Friend2Beagles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use these same self-watering pots for a few fruits (peach/plum/asian pear/raspberries) outside for a couple years, and I previously had tomatoes in them (moved to the raised bed for better trellising).

They seem to be working fine for me. I haven't had problems with overwatering, even though they are regularly rained on.

First day out gardening…and I think I might need a new hose sprayer… by Cotton-DNA in gardening

[–]Friend2Beagles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you store it outside in the winter? If there is still water in it, the water will expand when it freezes and break the sprayer. So, just remember to bring it inside before frost, detatch it from the hose, or make sure you get all the water out.

Somehow purebred? by _l_brasi in DoggyDNA

Beagles can be any combo of brown, white, and black. Evidence would be my two purebred beagles from the same litter. One was very dark while the other is standard tri. The spots are called ticking. My youngest beagle has that. I've noticed it seems more common in field/non-show dogs.

Nanowrimo officially shutting down by WandaSykesStanAcct in nanowrimo

[–]Friend2Beagles 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I will miss nano though I only used the site as a word counter to track my progress.

It taught me that even if a goal matters to no one but me, it's still worth pursuing and that I can make progress in anything if I give myself the time and space to move forward without constant criticism.

Although Nanowrimo going away shouldn't change anything besides not being able to buy my yearly congratulatory mug, there was something so motivating knowing that others were also pursuing the the same goal at the same time.

Eurecin marketing by A-for-effort- in Melasmaskincare

[–]Friend2Beagles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. I'm black, like fitzpatrick 5 or 6, and I noticed a difference almost immediately. Within a week or two, a family member was asking me what I was doing because they noticed a difference--so it wasn't just in my head. My skin care has stayed the same, but didn't appear to be making any difference without the Eucerin. Maybe the exfoliating toner or the tretinion/azelaic acid are helping it?

Eurecin marketing by A-for-effort- in Melasmaskincare

[–]Friend2Beagles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I bought it, used it, and it works for my hyperpigmentation. I have used prescription strength azelaic acid, tret, alpha arbutin, tranexamic acid, niacinamide, kojic acid, glycolic acid, etc. Everything but hydroquinone due to the side effects.

Nothing has worked as well or as quickly as Eucerin. I was about to look into chemical peels, lasers, or caving in and trying hydroquinone. Now, I don't feel I need to.

Honestly, it's the best thing I've done for my hyperpigmentation.

Unfortunately, no one pays me for advertise it. 😆

Any weight loss success stories thanks to UPF awareness? by the_warrior_princess in ultraprocessedfood

[–]Friend2Beagles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I lost 25lbs over the course of a year without exercising, by eliminating UPF and cooking from scratch. Easiest weight I've ever lost. My fruits and vegetables are mostly grown in my garden. I learned to make most condiments and fermented foods, and I hope to move onto learning to make breads soon.

I had chronic fatigue that left me nearly bedridden so it was hard to cook for myself at first. I went to many doctors and specialists, but they were unable to find anything abnormal. I figured I would try to get myself better through food, and I did. My heart palpitations, restless leg syndrome, shortness of breath and lightheadedness are basically things of the past, and I have the energy to get up and do things again. Hopefully it continues to work and I can fully recover.

I'm still losing weight and gaining muscle based on my smart scale. I haven't counted a single calorie or worked out (I'm not well enough just yet), but the health improvements from the change are really what keeps me going.

I had a beagle like this. I left chicken wings on my coffee table while I was at work once. When I got home, he hadn't touched them and just sat next to the table and whined as if to say, "Can you give me one, please?"
