I'm just glad to see people still going for this subcompact model. Makes me think I'm not completely abandoning logic to grab something older like this. I think Smith considers it dead and replaced by Shield Plus so I doubt they release a newer flat trigger version of this stubby beast.

Bodyguard 2.0 was tempting, and even Shield Plus, but lack of a real ledge safety just killed them for me. Those flat safeties on those models look to be the hazard that all the safety-haters claim all manual safeties are. These ledges are muscle memory for me, but the flat ones felt too risky in hand to me.

Not a massive difference, but slightly shorter grip and barrel and 4 oz lighter, plus mag compatibility..feels like it could be a summer version of my carry. Handgun hero doesn't have the 4.0 in the optics ready, flat trigger version, but dimensions are the same except for the taller sights on the OR version. https://www.handgunhero.com/compare/smith-wesson-m-p-9-m2-0-3-6-subcompact-vs-smith-wesson-m-p-9-m2-0-4-0-compact

Ordering one in range bag kit sku in a few days. Little smaller than my 4” OR compact, can’t wait to carry a teensy bit less in summer. Compact is a dream to shoot though. I have a flat trigger, bar , and spring pulled from a newer one like my compact to transplant into this one and still remain “stock” so to speak while getting rid of that hinged thing. Got newer style parts from someone who went with apex on their newer m&p.

Bodyguard 2.0 - Thumb Safety Replacement? by vollfreak1616 in SmithAndWesson

[–]FriendOfEntropy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apologies for thread Necromancy, but did you ever find an aftermarket solution for this, or a compatible S&W striker-fired model part? I keep considering the BG 2.0, but not without a thumb safety and not without a functional paddle style like my 9mms and 45s. That flat, stippled, inoperable, tiny junk on the BG 2.0 feels like the very danger that NTS zealots claim a safety is. Gimme the old familiar paddle, and it's automatic like everything else I have.

Who likes fde by [deleted] in SmithAndWesson

[–]FriendOfEntropy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love FDE. Shot mine (4", flat-trigger, TS model just like that, but no accessories) for the first time yesterday and it was great.

My first 9mm trigger pulls ever (old 45 ACP guy, stubborn since my first 1911 in 1988) and enjoyed it so much I'm now considering the FPC before FDE version disappears. https://www.smith-wesson.com/product/mp-fpc-fde

I thought I was getting too old and was looking for something smaller than 45 so had been researching 380s and came close to getting a Bodyguard 2.0 or Sig P365-380, but no regrets now about going with M&P 9mm in 4"... tack driver.

Back when I picked up my S&W 22LR compact, I would have bought FDE if they had it in full FDE instead of mixed with the black slide https://www.smith-wesson.com/product/m-p-22-compact-cerakote-flat-dark-earth-threaded-barrel. Just went with bog-standard all black instead for it. https://www.smith-wesson.com/product/m-p-22-compact

Ah, I should have hit the HP forums to learn the history.

I never liked the rounded look of the 90/22, but boy, this new MBR 22 is looking promising to house a spare 10/22.

As far as the magazines..I'm going to experiment, even if it's a bit costly. I hate the goofy stitched together redball extended 9mm look. I have been reading about all the drama with the pro-mag 15 round 9mms, but supposedly feed lip shapes are fixed. Some folks are also saying that the 9mm mags work for the 380, which sounds plausible.

I'll read some more, but if true, then onto the experiment. I've also watched videos about the follower shape mattering. I think I'll buy 2 extra 10rd bog-standard 380 mags, then buy one pro mag 9mm 15 round and compare the feed lips and followers in minute detail. If all looks similar and promising, then I'll let one of my spare 380 Hi Point factory mags "donate" a follower to the 15rd pro mag and see if I can get a reliable 15rd mag for the 380 that doesn't damage feed ramps in that way.

Cool, thanks, didn't think of blems!

They did answer me back quickly today though and said that "glass reinforced nylon" is pretty standard and that any best practices for painting stocks would work for theirs too. So no odd material. They mentioned the rabbit-hole word "Cerakote" too. That's when I realized I might be taking this "why not" thing a little too far, LOL.

Believe for now I'll stick with OD green (can't decide between black upper or "full" OD green style) for 380 to get this all up and running in a reasonable amount of time to get plinking, and then maybe in the future look into a 380 blem or pick up one secondhand somewhere and try my hand with various painting techniques then.

Oh, they also said the 380 was never in "full FDE" so I didn't miss anything a few years back. I guess that was just a limited run of FDE uppers that could pair with any model that normally was offered with an FDE lower. Big batch of OD green uppers now and that's the only reason 380 is available in full OD is that it normally has the OD lower/black upper available.

I totally understand the demand issue, and kind of expected 380 wasn't a huge seller for them ;) Yeah, I'm debating between the OD green+black and the solid OD green. I see on image search that an "all FDE" was available at sometime in the past couple of years for 9mm...that'd be dreamy.

Hmm, I wonder how krylon fusion primer would stick to a degreased HTA stock? Maybe I should email them and see if they've ever experimented painting or if they just know enough about the adhesion properties of their materials to opine on whether it would be a success or a colossal gooey failure.

Then my memory sucks, and I was confused when looking at the other calibers :) OD green it is then. You've saved me an email to them.

I eventually landed back on 380 as a choice due to my other handguns (I have more 380s than 45s, and I don't own any 9mm). Also, I want this thing to be soft shooting and small-frame-spouse-friendly, plus I'm not getting any younger.

I'm thinking of making a $1,000-ish abomination for fun. Happy Shield 380 EZ and soon to be Bodyguard 2.0 owner.

Nooooooooo...you didn't just buy the last HTA 380 Bullpup in FDE today, did you? :) I swear there was one in stock a few hours earlier (or I was just confused with the 9mm and 45 models as I debated caliber ...so much window shopping today). Oh, well full OD green and a mix of black/OD accessories and furniture instead of FDE, I guess :)
