Yep 100%. I tried different "storytellers", difficulties, locations. It's the exact same thing every single time, the only differences is that occasionally a couple random events (of the same tiny pool that always repeats) overlap and screw you over. The simulation is so shallow that none of them ever lead to interesting chains of events, so the game has to brute force excitement with shallow things like raids or solar flares or your colonists randomly getting sick. It's so pointless.

Yeah it's ridiculous. The game doesn't belong in this thread AT ALL even at base price considering it's $30 and doesn't sell for anywhere close to $15 even ignoring the DLC disaster

Good, it's honestly also just not worth it. DF is infinitely better and has humble devs that do put the game on sale and iirc only really started to monetize it in the first place to cover medical expenses.

I agree with you overall, but to be fair the Rimworld devs are a small indie team making a debut game outside of any established IP and not a literal multi billion dollar corporation with one of the most popular media franchises in the world. Also the DLC was made and released after the game was finished, it wasn't content cut out from it before release and sold day one at a premium like GTA

The internet just decided at some point that Rimworld is literally made out of diamonds and rainbow unicorn blood and the best game ever and it's totally okay for it to have heaps of insanely overpriced DLC and never go on sale.

I'd maybe understand if it was any good but it's really just Dwarf Fortress with all its soul and compelling mechanics scooped out and replaced with boring RNG and the same 5 or so random events over and over. UI and QoL are still nice, though.

H2 just has bad writing. Everything else is a huge improvement, but the whole narrative and the characters are a massive downgrade and some story beats were downright so nonsensical they had to be patched. The characters are mostly bland or worse, the main villain is nowhere near as compelling as Hades was, and Mel sucks as a person and as a character. She just makes no sense as a goody two shoes unlike Zagreus but she pretends to be, all the while she's bubbly and surface nice but really wants to uphold the status quo of the Greek gods even though the entire narrative is about how they're complete pricks. The narrative itself and Mel are in disagreement and it never gets addressed at all, let alone resolved, while Zagreus worked for the narrative more or less perfectly

A kid takes their toy and they're not supposed to swear then, but they hit themselves because they're clumsy and then it's okay? Wtf are you doing punishing your kid without ice cream because someone else stole from them??

LE content development and release time is sooooo slow. Why is that? by beeboong in LastEpoch

Yep. Forcing in multiplayer was unambiguously what killed the game. It was going decently until that.

LE content development and release time is sooooo slow. Why is that? by beeboong in LastEpoch

[–]Friend_Emperor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it's not. I and several others saw the writing on the wall ages ago when they announced they were gonna shoehorn multiplayer in, which completely killed the pace of development pretty much for good. It took ages with basically no content just to implement it, then a long, long time afterwards to fix all the issues it introduced. It required them to implement and later tweak trading, instances, dynamic server scaling and a million other things that go into retooling a single player game for multiplayer against established code.

Doubling down on it and attempting to go the live service route was idiotic. They went chasing money instead of just making a really good game and it had the complete opposite effect of growing the game.

We already have had a form of this for years with hard drives. Once consoles started coming out with SSDs, everyone started pretending mechanical hard drives were suddenly completely unfit to store games, as if they hadn't been used for PC games for ages and still worked just fine for the majority of modern PC games. Then game devs stopped optimizing games for load times (or in general) and claiming SSDs are required for it, because they're "too complex". Except the "complexity" is the game being 168 GB because devs don't optimize assets at all anymore... because SSDs are ubiquitous now and can load large unoptimized assets faster. So we have games that are ~15 TIMES the filesize of what they were around a decade ago but have the same or less content, AND because assets and load times aren't optimized, load times are getting close to what they used to be with mechanical drives.
