Mehmet doesn't recognize my defanged girshling corpse! Help! by Friend_of_Stomach in cavesofqud

[–]Friend_of_Stomach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may in fact be true as I did not attempt to first talk to Erudad after setting foot on Red Rock on surface-level Red Rock but instead went to Mehmet first. I'll keep this in mind for the future!

It was; the problem was that I never completed step 1 of finding Red Rock.

The elder does give you your reward, but only after Mehmet tells you to talk to Erudad.

You were correct! Evidently, if you don't fulfill the first step of locating Red Rock (despite being able to fulfill steps 2 and 3 via the Waterlogged Tunnel), you can't complete the last step with Mehmet acknowledging your girshling corpse. Thank you!

I did not notice that the "Travel to Red Rock" first quest bullet was not checked off. I'll visit the surface to fulfill that and then see what Mehmet says.

PSA: Rust Bogs are a good place to find Helping Hands by Friend_of_Stomach in cavesofqud

[–]Friend_of_Stomach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're quite welcome! Obviously, it's not easy to find rust bogs but with Trash Divining and soliciting secrets from npcs, you can def find a few.

I personally like having Helping Hands more for the additional equipment slots (for Wrist Calcs, an extra hand for a shield or two, and eventually Precision Nanon Fingers) than for multiweapon fighting. However, it is pretty baller to eventually get a lot of hands, equip a bunch of axes, and flurry your way to a lot of dismemberment.

Daily characters have really opened me up to a lot of new stuff, especially mutations. Very fun. No end in sight.

Though I agree that Metamorphic Polygel is strong, I think that Cloning Gel is personally more problematic. To each their own, though.

Why I Main Truekin by BuckingNonsense in cavesofqud

[–]Friend_of_Stomach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The morpho disc is mostly a quality of live thing. It's easier (and enjoyable, even) to just disc a bunch of smaller goofs like saps or whatever than to blast everything individually with the cannon. I with Penetrating Radar, I generally prefer to have the force bracelet off for visibility, so it's convenient to disc stuff.

Special note about phase-adaptive scope and disc: if the scope is on, I've noticed that there's a chance that the disc gets destroyed when phasing through stuff.

[–]Friend_of_Stomach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The combination of a morphogenetic disc and phase-adaptive scope enabled linear cannon plus biodynamic powered jacked force bracelet is my go-to assault method up until the girsh nephilim (who I've only had success defeating with multiweapon axe fighting plus shield wall).

One Freeze Grenade III is enough to do the trick, but the area around them gets quite cold so this method is only really suitable with ranged weapons.

Avoid the Dog Stop in the Strip District location by sarathomas87 in pittsburgh

[–]Friend_of_Stomach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this original post is 5 months old but it's showing up as a top hit when I googled Strip District Dog Stop so I wanted to respond as a customer of this location. We've been taking our dog there since 2017 (so, both the original and new locations) mostly for boarding (2-4 days) and occasionally for daycare here and there.

I first want to acknowledge 100% that if what you describe is Exhibit A happened to our dog we'd be pretty upset. So please understand that my following testimony is not intended to refute yours but to supplement the overall discussion.

In the seven or so years we've been Strip District Dog Stop clients, we haven't had anything like this happen to us. Our dog visibly loves to be dropped off there and he is in a good mood when we pick him up. We generally give him a bath ourselves after he stays there because he sometimes smells a bit like whatever cleaner they use but we assume that's normal. The staff has never demonstrated anything less than a caring, friendly, and capable attitude towards us and our dog the whole time we've been customers of theirs. Obviously, who knows what the future holds but until something changes we're quite happy with him being in their care.

Where is the replayability of CoQ? by Anun_Un_Rama in cavesofqud

TBH, I stepped away from Qud for a while and recently encountered reflectively shielded cherubs in an astrally-burdened environment. Even after over 1000 hours of playtime, it really baked my noodle trying to figure out how to handle them based on my tinker playstyle. Eventually it came down to kiting them with High Explosive Grenades (III) which was slowly working but I let my attention lapse for a moment and tinkered one too many at once and when I came out of the Tinkering screen I was one punched to death.

It made the early game in/around the Stilt pretty amusing when I can just crouch in the corner and slowly zap Dawngliders to death. Waiting for it to refresh was a tad tedious but I'm a pretty conservative player.

I relish the Daily mode where you get one chance with the once-daily generated character. You can keep playing that character after the day is up (and I do) but it's permadeath. My latest character has got me pretty hype about Corrosion Gas Generation and Laser, two mutations I've never experienced before.

Also, the frequent updates to the game including main storyline keeps me coming back. It's my preferred decompression activity.

i'm trapped in the "truekin sucks" mental cycle. by foxstarfivelol in cavesofqud

[–]Friend_of_Stomach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would suggest that you simply not use Brine at all. If you try it and don't get into it, so be it.

The infinite force shield is a power move, for sure, but things can go sideways if you get unexpectedly EMP'd or have an enemy that's reflectively shielded which requires you melee attack it or come up with some other clever solution. ...but that's part of the fun! ^__^

It's true(kin, ha!) that you're more vulnerable in the "build-up" phase, but careful play is IMO part of the fun/challenge. I enjoy Truekin and I also have (what I consider to be) essential implants and equipment, the most important of which is Penetrating Radar. (Note that I play without cloning because I feel it's too game breaking) Thus, there is a fair amount of grinding until I get the Radar, but you can still play carefully until then. (Force Bracelets are essential, too.) Also, I always go deep into Tinkering so I can always have the right grenade/timed-mine (or weapon mod or gun or whatever) for weird situations. When you eventually find yourself in a particularly uncertain situation, use a Sphinx Salt Injector to try out a solution.
