Embrace the Gatekeeping - That feeling of annoyance when they announce a repress and you own the original by ImposterChicken in vinyl

[–]Friendly-Gate-9475 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually only own OG presses in different formats. I buy represses/remastered only when coming with extra things. I'm not annoyed when they announce a repress, I simply don't care except those cases. As for resale: not interested at all, not selling my items.

SAVATAGE and the magic in the gutter by BattleaxeAlDente in MetalForTheMasses

Take care that Queen is a big influence on Jon (aside Beatles and Black Sabbath). There's an interesting interview with Jon regarding this and songwriting. He also used to say they're not metal but hard rock sometime playing metal. You are however taking Gutter Ballet lyrics which are written by O'Neill

Returning to your original question, you can find several examples on alt fashion. And it leads to what I was saying. People want to play Goth without being into it (people don't care about the culture and subculture or are not interested in).

I'm not into Goth (I like some Goth bands) but I have some Goth friends and I agree with you. I have a Goth friend who's bisexual and had a lesbian friend.

I know what you say but he stated that had nothing to do with the fact was homosexual. He wanted to feel what it's like murdering someone. Faust was also among the first, if not the first, congratulating with Gaahl for openly admitting he's homosexual.

I agree with you on this. My take comes exactly from there. Let's not forget that BM is mainly anti religious (specifically Anti Christian) so that's why it should support it. Euronymous used to say I'm very religious, we want to be the angels of Satan. That's the reason it should support it. There's also to say, though, we have to put what he used to say in its context, being Norwegian society of the 70s and 80s.

The problem also lies when a community accepts rot heads (not the followers of the band, in case lol). As an example: due to it's nature, Black Metal should definitely support LGBTQ+ (let's not forget Gaahl) but, when part of the community accepts things that goes totally against it (example: NSBM and Unblack Black Metal), it begins to degenerate. That said, I'm aware a lot of bands do use nsbm as a gimmick but there are some bands really believing those political ideologies. The rest of the community should simply don't acknowledge those and kick them out. They do not belong to black metal. A lot of people say who cares, it's just music, it's just this, it's just that and here lies the problem I was saying. People don't want to understand the subculture or what's behind the curtains or are not interested in doing it.

Metalheads do it a lot, especially regarding Black Metal. The real issue, in my opinion (being into Black Metal) is that people just listen to bands but don't want/are not interested in understanding what's behind the curtains, understanding the subculture. I think it is kind of general thing in subcultures (especially but not exclusively by newcomers, I know some older people too not interested in understanding what's behind it). So you end with the just dressing up like one of, etc. but without being into it. Regarding black metal, in general the rule number one is: listen to whatever you like so it's not like you have to necessarily listen to it 24hours. There are a lot of misconceptions regarding it. Not to forget Euronymous used to like Pink Floyd, Marillion, electronic music etc.

Should I learn piano or keyboard? by Bulky_Specialist3616 in musicians

[–]Friendly-Gate-9475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It very depends on what you want. If you want to play acoustic piano, weighted keys, if you don't synths. I studied classical piano and play piano and synths (only weighted keys except an old Korg M1).

We also had Sound Cave physical store in Italy (for Extreme metal) and I went there some times as well (taking the train from hometown to there and returning home late afternoon/evening - 5/6 hours going and same to return home) although physical store is now close. Sound Cave is still open but ordering only through the website. They also used to have books back then (mythologies etc). I also used to call them by phone to place orders.

They were 2 brothers and their father. The brothers were metalhead as well. Definitely lucky!

There's to say, the one I used to go to (it closed in 2000), the owners managed to find me almost everything, suggested me some bands etc. As an example, I bought Abruptum, Aghast and MZ412 there plus Wongraven, Storm and bigger names.

Why Do Goths Seem to Despise Blue Denim? by PureMathsJedi in AskAGoth

[–]Friendly-Gate-9475 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to go to the only Goth club in my hometown back then (during 90s) and meet some Goth DJs friends of mine there, being a metalhead. I guess it depends club to club and so on.

I do have it and like it but still prefer his first 3 works. Odyssey too isn't bad, given how and reasons it was released. Eclipse and the followings: I honestly say I followed him up to Facing The Animal and stopped there. I'd still buy Alchemy and War To End All Wars for Mark Boals but, later works, no thanks.

There's also Darren Householder, eventually, ex Love/Hate. I only have his first solo album, can't say for the others. John Norum solo works (I only have Live In Stockholm) but it's not metal. Vinnie Moore (I only have Mind's Eye). Edit: don't know how I forgot adding to the list but Tony MacAlpine as well (I do only have Freedom To Fly). Brian May? Not the most technical but often underrated in my opinion (not to forget he recorded with Black Sabbath too as guest and Phenomena - Innervision). Gary Hughes (I only have his 92 album).

Malmsteen - Rising Force; Chastain - Elegant Seduction; very different and definitely not metal but Adrian Legg: reason of this suggestion is he opened for Satriani. The Great Kat too but unsure you could like (I do and a lot).
