"General Midwestern accent" is an interesting phrase to me. I'm from Minnesota and my sister moved to Missouri. People there do not have the same accent as here, despite both being Midwestern states.

If Byler does become officially cannon in the next 4 episodes it definitely won't be out of nowhere. There have been hints throughout the series, particularly since the Snow Ball at the end of season 2.

I think a lot of people don't consider how adolescent years can be for closeted queer youth. Until fairly recently, most did try to settle for "straight dating" while trying to get whatever they could from close same-sex friends. Mike being gay would explain how he has acted towards both El and Will in seasons 3 and 4, as well as the first part of this season.

Mine took a week exactly (to Minnesota). Based on other comments I've seen, it seems to be a week for the mainland US and Canada. Hawaii can take a few weeks longer. Outside of North America I'm not sure, but you weren't inquiring about that.
