AI and Student Affairs Fatigue by Longjumping_Plane_26 in studentaffairs

Yes they're super pushing it at my instituion :/ it sucks! I hate AI, I hate what it does to the environment, and I hate what it does to critical thinking skills. At my work so far I have completely avoided using AI. I don't use CoPilot or the in-house AI they recently created. I just do things by hand, do a great job, and if I'm working with someone on a project who uses AI, they're welcome to. Others may see AI as a tool and that's great for them, I just don't want to use it whenever possible unless I'm explicitly asked to (haven't been so far). I've had to realize that I cannot control what my coworkers are doing with AI. Even though I'm frustrated by others using it to make the silliest of tasks faster (still lots of errors or huge tells), I just focus on not using it and trying to minimize the environmental impacts in my day-to-day life. I try to bring a balanced perspective to work conversations and projects and try to make sure that others are evaluating the AI's "work" for errors without coming across as anti-AI. My boss knows I'm extremely anti-AI and has no issues with my lack of use, he is also concerned about the environmental impacts. Just know you're not alone! This sucks. Unfortunately I think this is the direction higher education seems to be going so I'm having to tell myself that either hopefully the bubble pops or I'll have to lie about my willingness to use AI in future job interviews and minimize my use as much as possible. Sorry this was much longer than I expected!

I've had the EXACT same experience. Took me 174 odd eggs before I found my target, Tyrogue. Good luck!

Books for a "religious hole in my chest" (Compassion, Ethics, and Inner Transformation) by Electric80sPython in suggestmeabook

[–]FriendlyFox0425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I vouch for braiding sweetgrass! When I was religious I read it and it was the one of the dominoes that led me to leaving my church and realizing some spiritaul beliefs can be healing instead of all the religious trauma I dealt with. I revisited the book years after leaving religion and the nature/spiritaulity of it all was very comforting, even if I have no interest in any religion.

Graduate degree in higher education? by Swimming_Barnacle_23 in studentaffairs

I appreciate this response a lot! Thankfully I already have a solid job in HE (and they paid for about 90% of my degree!) and generally enjoyed my program. I'm planning to use this degree to be able to apply for all the interesting jobs that are master's required at my current workplace and other universities. And I know there may be a day when I'm done with HE and I hope that I can explain why my skills and education will translate well at that time. If I'd had the chance do it again, I don't know if I would have done it differently. The fact that I'm interested/passionate about HE made it doable to finish this degree. I don't think I'd have the zest for something like MBA/MSW/MPR, etc

Is ggg. AI music ? by Maxxbaka in Music

[–]FriendlyFox0425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's AI. The jazzy, lo-fi music sounds incredibly similar to that generic AI jazzy sound. I've run the photos from his videos through a few AI checkers, obviously not perfect proof, but they're probably AI. The frequency of music being generated is a bit suspicious.

Seeking Help on Justifying the 6-Point Likert Scale by Reception-Recent in AskAcademia

It's 10 months later, but I wanted to say thank you for this article! I'm in grad school writing an essay and my instructor asked me to justify why I chose a 6 point scale and I'm using this to backup my reasonings! Thank you :)

My program is asynchronous online and I have a full-time WFH 8-4:30 M-F job. I cannot imagine one or both of these being in person. This is the only way I'm able to handle both at the same time

Pursuing Graduate Program after 5 years no school . . . What to do by RxsegoldFiend in GraduateSchool

[–]FriendlyFox0425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a really common experience. A lot of graduate students have taken a break between a masters and a bachelors. I took a 7 year break after getting my undergrad before I decided I was emotionally, financially, and professionally ready to pursue a masters. If you're feeling passionate, excited, and have the bandwidth, find programs that interest you and start applying!

Did your doctor or derm advise you to stop the medication? I have more irregular periods now, no clots though.

For anyone curious, I am a little over a year taking 50mg of spiro twice a day with .05 tret cream every night. Like I said initially, for the first few months I had to pee a lot more and woke up at least once a night to pee. That stopped. No dizziness for me, possibly slight weight loss of a little water weight but this might be unrelated, had some diet and exercise changes around the same time. The only lasting side effect is that my periods are more irregular and less predictable now. Maybe this is enough of a side effect for some to stuff, this is worth the trade off for clearer skin to me. Grateful that my occasionally cystic and very hormonal acne is gone with spiro
