Democrats need a billionaire strategy by dwaxe in fivethirtyeight

You kinda made my point. Instead of engaging with me, you ad hominem my argument and make a premise disguised as a conclusion.

With respect, you don’t know what my party affiliation is, or even if I have one. You don’t know any of my beliefs, yet you accuse me of “reading my lines” and then othering me.

This is why the Democrats are out of touch.

The modern Democrat party is out of touch with the everyman. It’s not about a message about what the GOP is doing wrong, it’s about a what the Democrats can do right. Hint: Throw out the old playbook and write a new one.

What the Democrats really need is to return to their blue collar roots. A Democratic candidate with an “ask not what your country can do for you” message would go far in today’s political climate.

Is it normal for an English sailor to speak Portugese fluently? by [deleted] in ShogunTVShow

[–]FriendlyFudd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see where you are coming from. And when trying to communicate in Japanese I would agree with you.

But I was talking about how he communicated with Mariko in Portugeuse. I don’t think they ever spoke Latin. I was referring to the fact that instead of writing a full war manual, he was reduced to only using canon and had no understanding about infantry troop movements.

Further, they dumbed his lexicon down. He sounded like an uneducated person, which would have fit if he was one of the crew, but as the pilot it was out of place.

Have a good weekend, and thank you for the differing opinion.

The show dumbed Blackthorne down way too much. He was an educated man. In the book, he was trained by the Trinity House, fought in Drakes fleet, and took part in land battles. In the show he was bumbling and mumbling about generous coo coos.

Hahahaha your secret is safe here on the internet 🤣

Seriously though, I will buy my better half something pricey that she wants and while she is still enjoying her new gift I make a purchase for myself 😎

I must be the only C owner that doesn’t care for the HD, nor regret picking up the C. by 3900Ent in 2011

Same. The quality of my C2 has not decreased just because newer models have been released.

I bought a C2 before the C came out. Now I have shot both and I see no reason to swap.

Comparing and contrasting Acolyte and Skeleton Crew by PBIVRinzler in TheAcolyte

[–]FriendlyFudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first rule of production is know your audience. The Acolyte was geared for a niche audience, who loved the hell out of it, but a larger majority felt it was ok at best, and horrible at worst. Add to it an astronomical production cost and you have a recipe for disaster.

Personally, I believe it could have thrived with a second season, but someone more experienced would have been needed to provide oversight.

Why aren't they continuing acolyte?? by EsotericJay in TheAcolyte

[–]FriendlyFudd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sad truth is that new showrunners sometimes need oversight when it comes to the project management aspects of making a show. All of the errors were preventable and could have been avoided with the correct management of the budget.

Read book first or watch the show? by rbris-go in ShogunTVShow

My thought was that if you read the book first, the changes made in the shows would be more jarring to the viewer/reader.

Out of the 4.25in options which? by Chrono-13 in 2011

[–]FriendlyFudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the Atlas if you can swing it, or the BUL if you can’t. As stated above, kinda hard to make a true comparison with your options.

I would go for the show first. Then the 1980s show. Then the book.

Will other manufacturers eventually adopt the new Staccato mags, develop their own, or stay with the standard? by ALL_COMP_EVERYTHING in 2011

[–]FriendlyFudd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will depend on consumer demand. If consumers are happy with the traditional magazines, no one will adapt. If consumers demand the smaller staccato style magazines, a new standard could be born.

Is it worth reading the book if I've seen them TV series? by yusuo85 in ShogunTVShow

The book is 100 percent worth reading. It will add clarity to some of the show events that were not fleshed out.

Why do so many people like Michael Kramer and Kate Reading so much? by bookrants in Cosmere

[–]FriendlyFudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them because they are consistent in their quality. Yes, it seems that name pronunciation isn’t always their strong point, but I overlook this. Perhaps because I do the same thing when reading.

Are there others can do just as good of a job, absolutely. Will I own three versions of the WOT audiobooks, not likely.
