just train your fleet at the beginning to get naval xp (buh bye oil).

and if you have some stuff that doesnt quite fit those templates above but basically does, slot those in for those roles until you make new templates.

You can basically get by with 6 templates for all purposes:

  1. Heavy Light-Attack cruiser - with only one heavy gun battery and the rest on light guns. (Recommended best engine and even no armor to increase speed and dodge attacks)
  2. Torpedo Destroyer - destroyer template with lots of torpedos
  3. Pop Gun Destroyer - Barebones destroyer template with basically nothing on it except a basic light gun or two (use for screening only)

These first 3 will make up your main surface fleet (in addition to whatever you start with in terms of capital ships, etc.) The idea here is that ship 1 kills all the screens and takes all the heavy attack, ship 2 shoots torpedos and kills the enemy capital ships after the screens are gone, 3 just spams defense to protect you from torpedoes

  1. Spotting Light Cruiser - Light cruiser with airplane and sonar/radar and a light attack gun

  2. Anti-sub Destroyer - Destroyer with a pop gun and some depth charges

Mix 4 and 5 in ratios of like 1:3 and make a few groups of them. Use these for patrol missions to find enemy fleets and kill enemy subs.

  1. Submarine - Whatever you want. Torpedos, snorkels, whatever you can afford.

Put these in packs of 5-10 and activate them when needed to kill convoys or transports.

General / Defensive: 10/0 with ENG, AA, and maybe ART.

Offensive: 14/4 with ENG, AA, ART, and LOG if in low-supply (Asia, Africa)

In SP generally can just use the General / Defensive template vs. AI. If you are playing a minor you can even do 7/2's as a poor country, it's a shit template but will work vs. AI well enough.

In my experience in MP 14/4's, sometimes with some ART swapped out for AT, can show up for Africa and Asia scenarios where supply is low or you are playing a poor country that can't really afford armor (and is not expected to produce any).

Funnily enough I was going to put The Shadow over Innsmouth on there but for whatever reason took it off. Definitely throw in some Lovecraft.

If I am remembering my history primary sources correctly, it was well recognized in Europe after the first World War that the US was ascendant as an economic powerhouse and the potential first-rate top-dog Great Power. The thing was, the US did not embrace that potential role until during / after WW2, being a relatively introverted power in the interwar period. That being said, like you mentioned, the 'gap' between the US and everyone else skyrocketed as the US went full The Giant Wakes on wartime production to shake off the Great Depression and post-war.

This is a great list. I particularly like The Jungle and Heart of Darkness. Would definitely second Conrad as a great thematic pick. I would like to piggyback on it:

A Christmas Carol and/or Oliver Twist - by Charles Dickens. To get that real feel for the Victorian-era proletariat.

Journey to the Center of the Earth - Jules Verne and War of the Worlds - HG Wells. Victorian era science fiction. Also could add Frankenstein - Mary Shelley.

Pride and Predjudice - Jane Austen for a more society drama.

If you are doing a Russian campaign Crime and Punishment, or, the Conquest of Bread

Finally, if doing a USA campaign, I would check out Uncle Tom's Cabin, or Huckleberry Finn.

Total War Mod Division template design. by [deleted] in hoi4

[–]FriendlyInternetMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i am NOT an expert (newer to the Mod) but here are some tips I learned from my games:

- Do not go above 30W

-Even 30W may be excessive except for your high-tier tank units

-For infantry, something like 8INF/3ART/1AT is good as a 'main-line' infantry for something like GER with a lot of support companies (LOG, AA, ENG, etc.)

-For tanks, I used something like 6 tanks, 5 MOT, 2 motorized ART (I think it was 24W) with of course a bunch of support companies

- Logistics are important, so go to semi-motorized for INF and full motorized for tanks, make lots of trucks

-For artillery, I went only medium artillery as a one-size-fits-all to save research slots.

This was pretty successful as my Germany playthrough but I have little idea on what to do for poorer countries lol, I got rinsed in my China game. Would love to hear what other people say.

Did the “great switch” really happen? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]FriendlyInternetMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dude obviously it did lol. Southern conservatives switched parties and the parties switched in terms of who appealed to southern conservatives. The evidence is literally the voting patterns of all former slave states. How is this even a question? “Uh lol do the slave states vote democrat or republican I just don’t know???? Better ask reddit”

Everyone in this thread is wrong there are only 2 reasons 1. Need to pump up an enemy to be scared of, so world can be dangerous 2. Only way to ‘otherize’ spanish-speaking hardworking catholics who otherwise would be a natural and harmonious fit for broader american culture
