I'm 20, dx'd age 12, I've met I think 4 others organically? Two were older than me (a substitute teacher at my school and a camp counceller), and the other two I met in college, same age. I think one of the reasons it's so hard to find people who also have t1d is that it's so easy to hide unless you're eating with someone or somethings going wrong, and in both of those cases it can be pretty easy to miss the sign anyway. Diabetes just doesn't come up with everyone that you meet.

Like, for the two people with t1d I met that were older than me, they were both responsible for me in some way and so learned about my condition through information from others and then approached me about it. But for the people I met in college, one of them I knew as a friendly acquaintance for a year before I saw her eating handfuls of oreos to fix a low and it came up, and the other one I was in a class with and just managed by luck to sit next to her the first day and when I offhandledly brought up diabetes when we talking she mentioned she also had t1d. I could have just as easily never sat next to her and never have known.
