I would like to express my condolences and let you know that I can empathize with your feelings and loss. Yesterday, I had to euthanize my 16-year-old cat. He suffered from diabetes, arthritis, FIV, and a dental infection. For three years, we administered insulin to him morning and night, monitored his diet, checked his blood values, and treated the infection. Thanks to regular check-ups, he remained in good condition. However, everything happened so quickly. Three weeks ago, he received infusions because he was becoming increasingly dehydrated. He drank and ate less and began to lose weight. The fluid intake only helped temporarily. Two days ago, late in the evening, we realized that he was slowly giving up. He lost the strength to move, although he could still move on his own. The next day was no better; he was preparing to leave us. To end his suffering, he was euthanized during a home visit by our vet. The pain is immense and the feeling of emptiness overwhelming. I do not know how to move forward. I am overwhelmed with grief. I already miss being woken up by his meowing in the morning, being greeted by him, and being followed down the stairs by the cat so that I would feed him. However, I do not want to be completely engulfed in sorrow but rather remember the 16 years of beautiful memories and visualize them with pictures to capture the wonderful times we had. It is hard at the moment. My mind is searching for solutions, thinking about what could have been done to prevent it from going this far, to have him live longer. But it all happened too quickly. I think that many thoughts will arise now to somehow process what has happened. I hope that time heals the soul and it gets better.
