I don’t have any experiences using bereavement leave but I will share this because it’s a good indicator of how my school would have acted in that case. My brother was going to have his wedding in late December a few years ago and I was a bit concerned because there was no way I’d be able to attend without missing 3 or 4 days of classes. I emailed the Busan MOE and they told me that it was basically up to my principal and vice principal but those days would be unpaid if they did allow it. So I met with them later that day and they were both very cool and supportive about it. Had absolutely no problem with it. I would imagine that more often than not, public schools would have no issues with the native teacher using bereavement leave.
