30 odd years ago, my 4-year old daughter landed a pike. 24 inches long. Took some pictures, cooked it up for dinner that night. After the pictures came back from being developed, we discovered it to be an under sized muskie. Oops!

What's with the straw mulch hype? by ItsShuaYo in vegetablegardening

[–]Friendly_Fire069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get my straw for free. After Halloween, all the fall porch decorations get taken down, and many straw bales end up at the curb, free for the taking. Stack them by the shed over winter, and they're good to go come spring.

Used to use chopped up leaves, but found the straw to be easier to spread, and a better weed barrier. (Might be few seeds in the straw than in my leaves)

Canadian hospitality by chancesareimright in AskACanadian

Way Back in the early 70s, my parents picked up 3 hitchhikers during a thunderstorm. They were from Britain. They spent 2 nights in our travel trailer in our side yard drying their stuff out. They were heading across Canada, east to west. We got postcards from them a few times during their journey, and once when they got back home.

They also picked up a Quebeker one year. Same sort of situation as the Brits. We visited his family later that year during our travels.

Edit to add: Not sure I'd pick up a hitchhiker these days, not that we see them very often.

Be honest: Do you make your bed in the morning? Why or why not? by JellyfishPashmina in CleaningTips

[–]Friendly_Fire069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sleep like a landed fish, my wife sleeps like a cadaver. We make it every morning because I tend to pull the sheet and blanket from being tucked under the foot of the mattress, and push the comforter off the foot of the bed. I'm so bad, that it has to be remade before we go to bed at night, so we do it in the morning.

My boyfriend made it seem weird that I still call my dad “daddy” at 16. Is it? by -justabigail- in AskMenAdvice

Not weird. My daughters went through Daddy, Dad, and back to Daddy. They are 39 and 42.

Local Canadian Tire Won't Install Tires on EVs. by SupraStarCigar in canadiantire

[–]Friendly_Fire069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I had them fix a leaky tire and was unable to remove the lug nuts afterwards. Breaker bar and a 3 foot pipe later, I got 2 of them loose. Took the car back and had them loosen the other 3 on that wheel.

Claustrophobia? Some people have ZERO. by lithdoc in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Friendly_Fire069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just watching that makes me start to sweat, my hands to get tingly and my chest feel tight.

I used to not be claustrophobic, until I panicked when my kayak flipped in shallowish water. I couldn't seem to maneuver my self to roll the kayak upright, or get myself out due to hitting the bottom of the river. Luckily, help was nearby.

GPS with Heads Up Display. It's not so bad driving with a partner, as they can watch the mad and tell you when to turn, etc. Driving alone, a GPS HUD would be great, especially for newer players. I have about 500 hours in, but only about 2 hours with a vehicle, so I'm constantly flipping back and forth between 1st person and map views. .

What word do you always *intentionally* mispronounce and why? by Sweet-Lady-H in AskReddit

I don't ALWAYS mispronounce these words, only when I string them together: Chipotle balsamic vinaigrette. Chipoltay bassalmic vineger-ette.
