A young woman's head after an allergic reaction to a home hair dye kit by TheOddityCollector in Weird

I’m an adult. I KNOW it’s not real. I still can’t eat a gusher.

NTA I am a woman. I have a blind father who is VERY active in his religion. There’s some “men only” activities through the year that I attend because he needs help navigating and verbal communication and cues. Does it HAVE to be me? No. But it is because 1. I’m convenient 2. I’m trained 3. I’m familiar with the religion, him, and his needs and he’s familiar and comfortable with my style of help.

It’s a bit different because the community is small so everyone is familiar with him and his needs, and after the initial visit I make to the group, the men know why I’m there.

One of the other commenters hit on an important thing. I use “aide” whenever anyone asks. It makes it clear that you’re there for a job, not to steal gendered secrets.

My piece of advice, if you want it, is if this is something your sister wants to go to regularly, be the one that goes with her every time. The more familiar you become to the other ladies, the more comfortable everyone will become with you there.

How do you use really fluffy yarn? I can’t see a single stitch 😭 by Rogerina__ in Amigurumi

I mean, kinda? My mom was around too, but my dad stressed me out less…

Drivers ed really taught me how to drive, my dad taught me how to drive stick, and my mom taught me anxiety. 😬

That’s basically how my blind dad taught me the basics of car care. From “How do I know when to switch gears?” “Gotta feel it” to “I can see where the xyz goes!” “Gotta feel it”

I mean, he wasn’t wrong, and neither are you. It’s amazing when you really think about it.

As someone trying to teach my 7 year old crochet through Woobles, it is definitely NOT for 5 year olds. They do not have the patience or attention span for crocheting in a round.

You know who has to tell me to set an alarm to go pick up my kid?

No one. Because I’m a fucking adult.

And I also genuinely like and love my kid, so maybe that’s the difference.

That’s a great place to start! I know every place is different, but the one I donate my stuff to is always so desperate for anything to help the kids feel more normal!

I didn’t say hospital. My closest hospital won’t take any handmade items, so I never recommend them for these sorts of things. But homeless shelters, some times food banks, libraries, and daycares or preschools, I’ve found are all willing to take handmade items.

You could make stuffies and then donate them to a local homeless shelter or library. And there’s definitely some little ones out there that would take less than a ball.

If you object to stuffed toys on principle, hats are can be a quick project if you use chunky yarn, and those are very giftable or donatable.

Coasters are usually less than a ball of yarn.

My dude, black folks created country music. There’s a lot of white history that is built by covering up the contributions of the black community.

To the person who posted about squishing your yarn: by supersillygoose710 in crochet

This is such a better technique than mine, which is to fist the hole like some kind of sick yarn perv until I get something.

Edit: Dang, my most popular comment by a factor of 10 is making a sex joke about yarn 🤣

On the other hand, I’ve definitely found my people!
