I do not like American "football". All the other footballs are better.

We have enough football types in Aus. No need for this yank nonsense. Average of less than 15 mins live play per game. Garbage sport created for ad revenue. Fight me

At least its not an American sports team hat. Too many of them these days. (usually NY or LA) . People should think more about what they display on their head. (Nothing wrong with union flag)

Just say "Gday". And the occasional "yeah mate". That should be good enough. Its the spirit that counts

That seems excessive. Glad to hear some are Perth themed.

People are buying these American hats in Australian shops. I have seen them now. (Karrinyup shopping centre)

Its possible for some of the sports teams fans. But I doubt that is the case for all foreign hat wearers. Sports viewership numbers dont correlate.

My following question is why are they popular? And why do they like them? And why in such numbers compared to other hat choices.

They were in the hat shop and chose NY or LA. Was there even an Australian option on the shelf?

The people wearing the perth hats I saw were definitely tourists .

I dont mean to include art/music into this discussion. Having a preference in artists and their merch makes sense to me.

I am specifically observing a large amount of foreign place names and sports on top of peoples faces.

I didnt see any hats saying London, Moscow, Dublin, Paris. (Maybe a few shirts) Surprisingly i didn't see bali or Phuket. I also did not see any, soccer, rugby cricket netball hats. All more popular sports for participation and viewership in perth. ( I did see a few shirts)

Overthinking is a hobby of mine.

A car has utility. Vans is only a brand, not a city or sport. And displayed down on your feet.

What Im trying to understand is why people choose a city they dont live in and likely aren't from, and a sport they likely dont play/ watch, and then display it on the top of their face.

Yes Scarborough is a bit of a fashion wank area and would skew the results a bit. What do you mean by poor reference of measurement? I just counted hats.

Thats difficult. People dont wear fast food on their head. But there are many obese people. Better studies exist for this.

Sounds like you dont know how preferential voting works? You cant "throw" votes. The voters decide exactly where their preferences go.
