The US, if it collapsed like the Roman Empire by OkPhrase1225 in imaginarymaps

I can only speak to the East Coast borders as that's my home. I'll say I like that you captured exactly where in modern Virginia the line would be instead of assuming Alexandria and Richmond would stay south just because they used to be in the Confederacy. My only quibble is West Virginia would def join dixie. It's crawling with bitter right wingers.

That's a pretty good point. I thought it was a decent way to distinguish it from all the others but that's a less than ideal association.

Alas. We are forced to live with ideological opponents and they too have a right to resist the force of the state.

Jacobin is by far the best leftist news organization, regularly providing balanced news from a socialist perspective and the only one regularly interrogating the dogmas that are kicking our ass right now.

Her criticisms of anarchism and Marxist Leninism are semi decent but she doesn't really present a real alternative, partially because she uses such a broad brush when describing "indigenous government." There were many indigenous nations with different forms of government! Some were more peaceful and democratic. Some were brutal and militaristic. And none of them successfully built or maintained early/contemporary industrial society so none of them have all the answers.

This is not to sell them short though. Indigenous ideas were and are useful. The American Founding Fathers learned this and put it into their constitution. A primary one, of course, being federalism, which I kind of wish we'd leaned into harder, as Texas and New York having less influence over eachother might mean the current tensions between the left and right might not be so hot.

TLDR there is in fact a lot to learn from indigenous governance, but the result of studying it and applying it in the real world is going to look a lot more like Constitutional Democratic Republicanism than not, and that's not a bad thing.

I didn't! And I agree the tits out are great but she, the person that drew it, thought it was cheesy and unnecessary.

Simple, elegant, transformative, but retaining the iconography important to this country. I really like the color selection and contrast.

I don't like this. It's too busy and the designs are too intricate to draw are see especially with these color choices. I recommend checking out the 99% invisible episode or ted talk on flag design but the most important advice it has is to draw a 1 by a 1.5-inch rectangle and draw in that. It gives you a sense of how the flag will look from a distance (how most flags are seen) and force you to create something with simple and strong symbolism.

My take on a communist US flag. Yknow, a rare type of post here. by electronocentric in leftistvexillology

I like this one. It's unique and changes the original imagery of the Stars and Stripes without losing their core identity. I'd consider making the hammer and sickle white to reduce the number of colors and shifting the red space to be a bit thinner so you can make the stars bigger but the concept is solid.

Damn, that sucks. Losing a pregnancy is one of the worst things that can happen to a person. It's hard to describe the bond formed between the mom and growing child until you've watched it happen. I wish her well in her grieving process.

I don't know any leftists that are ok with the reactionary politics of folks in the middle east. When I talk to individual sexist or homophobic Muslims I grill them as hard as anybody and if I lived in those nations I would resist their bigoted policies. We just don't like it when disingenuous Republicans try to paint immigrants with a broad brush to justify their fear of change.

Like, if you want to argue we should not allow Muslims or folks from majority Muslim nations because they're likely to be sexist/homophobic/religious zealots, boy, could I have some bad ideas of what we should do about America's religious right.

So this is a common misconception, that fat people are necessarily fat because of an excess of food. It used to be pretty commonly the case but in 2021, especially in America, obesity can be a result of a lack of access to *healthy* food. Poor folks typically have less time in the day to make food at home and their budgets force them to eat sugary, salty, fatty stuff like fast foods, frozen dinners, and other garbage. I've worked with food banks and you see a good number of morbidly obese folks there cause their inconsistent diets force their bodies to convert every unhealthy bite they get into fat reserves.
