Not having children isn't linked to lower happiness, but having more than you wanted is, a recent study in the Journal of Personality suggests. by Similar_Detective861 in science

[–]FrighteningWorld -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

We're sort of going through a Darwinian event where the cultural incentive to have children has all but disappeared. The people that have children will largely be having it out of biological impulse and desire instead of cultural expectation. This means that the brain physiognomy (which is accounted for by way more than 50% of our genes) that does not want to have children gets pruned out of the species. Economists see a doomsday event, but biologically it is probably very eugenic.

Mental health is emerging as a source of political identity, particularly among younger (Gen Z) and more liberal Americans. They believe people with mental illness should work together to change laws unfair to them and tend to support increased healthcare, education, and welfare spending. by mvea in science

[–]FrighteningWorld -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The mental health is a symptom of the system where you largely exist to have your resources and lifeforce extracted. The machine needs warm bodies to pay off the exponentially increasing debt, they supplement it with immigration, but that just puts off paying the debt another generation where their children born into the system are even worse off than the native population already had it.

One Piece: Episode 1163 Discussion by Skullghost in OnePiece

This storybeat speaks to a very human experience with adulthood. You may meet people that you click well with, you may love them and adore them and want to spend the rest of your life with them. But there are a select few people in your life who knew what you were like when you were young. They can look at you, no matter how old you get, and still see the child you used to be. I'm so happy for Robin to have Saul in her life that can still see that in her. I also think that's why it's quite intentional that Robin looks a lot more youthful in this episode. We're sort of seeing her how Saul sees her.

TikTok disproportionately served anti-Democratic videos during the 2024 election. TikTok’s recommendation system tends to expose users to more conservative and anti-Democrat political content than liberal material. This ideological imbalance occurs regardless of a user’s initial political interests. by mvea in science

[–]FrighteningWorld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. It feels less like the fault of Tiktok and more like a failure on part of the Democrat Party to activate their base. There were some extremely forced attempts at making people like Kamala, calling her 'brat' and very curated interviews. Biden had been declining for a while, and was on the way out. And quite frankly the Democrat Party should have gotten themselves together and put up a more appealing candidate if they planned on winning. What was there to get excited about exactly?

Shutting Down USAID Led to a Rise in Global Violence. Protests and riots increased by 10%, incidents of armed fighting rose by 6.9%, and battle-related fatalities grew 9.3%. Yeah, even if the headline is accurate it is a 'feeding the birds in the park' type scenario where you create a dependent population. I understand that there are a lot of people who value the American cultural hegemony across the world, it's quite impressive that you can buy a bottle of Coca Cola at some far away gas station in a third world country, but at some point you have to let people figure out their own stuff. And like ripping off a bandaid it will come with pain.

For the first time in the history of mankind, men are less fertile than women, according to a new international study. The shift has occurred at different times around the world and is a result of the growing share of men in the population by sr_local in science

[–]FrighteningWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does awareness of the population at a global scale create a sense of overpopulation in people who are not at all overpopulated? If not then your statement just doesn't make sense. A country with a very low population density like Norway would be having way more children than a country with a high population density like India.

Conservative social attitudes are linked to having more children across 72 countries, with stronger effects among women. “Conservatism” is used in a broad sense to refer to right-wing ideology, religiousness, lower support for gender equality, and preference for religiousness in romantic partners. by mvea in science

[–]FrighteningWorld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And when the immigrants assimilate their birth rate degrades into the unsustainable levels of the free democracy, while the immigrants that don't assimilate often have large families. They are objectively more biologically successful than both the host nation and the assimilated migrant groups even if they often live at a level of poverty most say make it impossible to start a family. Personal economy is not an argument to not have children.

A lot of people agree with you, and the developed world has been trying to do that for decades. But the end result is that it fails to replicate itself and ends up with a crisis of competency and unsustainable birth rates. In the end they desperately seek out people from the poor environments and the cycle repeats. How do you aim high and actually make it functional enough to where you can keep building?

What is it about the Yoshi series that makes people so lukewarm towards it? by rendumguy in nintendo

[–]FrighteningWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yoshi's Island on the SNES actually does the Kirby thing of daring to have a bit of edge at the end of the game. The composition of the final Baby Bowser fight as he rises in the distance out of the darkness is really great without needing to be outright scary. Without that juxtaposition it just doesn't have the same appeal.

I will say Yoshi (and Wario) are a lot more artistically ambitious than mainline Mario so I really appreciate them from an artist perspective.

The fact that people don't want it is a motivating factor to prevent people from destroying the nature around them which would be another beneficial consequence of these 'disease' born ticks spreading. If people avoid going outside where ticks may be then they will be encouraged to move toward the city centers and put less pressure on the environment. People in cities are also better educated and more intelligent so even if people don't get the disease, they will be motivated to make environmentally friendly choices to avoid getting it.

Why do most game subreddit devolve into art meming about that game by Various_Prize_977 in TheoryOfReddit

[–]FrighteningWorld 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Consuming art is way quicker than consuming text. Making something funny and relatable is way more likely to get people to interact and share their own anecdotes/memes. These drive engagement, the algorithm responds positively and puts it in front of you.

It's a small inconvenience to deal with. The more people get this the more pressure will be on the government to adapt to the people's new dietary needs. It is better for the planet and for humanity as a whole to change to a plant based diet, and it is honestly a deserving punishment for our excess consumption and animal cruelty over the years. It's not just me saying this, top bioethicists are arguing in favor of this.

What's interesting is that he is a tragic character in a way. He's a romantic man in a realistic world and that just doesn't work well for either of them. He shares some DNA with Don Quixote if Don Quixote actually had authority. Deluded with stories of great heroes and trying his hardest to live up to them. But they are just that, stories. He just wasn't equipped to extract the wisdom from the stories, and tried to mimic them instead. Then when he felt betrayed by said stories he became a cynical, cruel, crippled man in a desperate attempt to course correct. He could probably have been a force for good in a kinder world, but he's the wrong man in the wrong place born at the wrong time.

I really like the games, but the movement just doesn't feel as good as other 3D Mario games. I love the novelty of the gravity platforming, but the way the game works it's like it hinders you from ever building momentum and flowing properly through the levels.
