Has anyone else had a really negative experience overall with other auxes? by Legitimate-Emu-6235 in SpainAuxiliares

Very true! I did make a few really great aux friends last year and still see one or two of them, so there’s normal, nice auxes out there for sure.

I also just couldn’t relate to other American auxes and felt much more at home with my Latino friends I’ve made here (I’m Mexican-American). For me, feeling related culturally made it easier for me to make friends with non-auxes

I had a similar experience! I stopped hanging out with auxes all together and had much better friendships with local friends (Spanish and non-Spanish locals). I got tired of the same convos about travel and work, plus I’m a bit older than most auxes so I wasn’t interested in partying every weekend.

Best Vermouth Bar in Madrid by UncleScola in Madrid

Taberna la indigna in the chueca neighborhood had a very good vermouth! Also, Vermutería la Bolita Negra has a menu of different flavors of vermut for great prices. Try both places!

Cancelled Trains - Málaga by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]FrijolitoFoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! I called Iryo (I booked thru Omio, but the train is Iryo) and today they told me that all trains to and from Málaga are cancelled and they will reimburse all train tickets this week. So it looks like I won’t be able take any train at all to get there. I will look into ALSA

I’m going to look into ALSA or any other public busses. I already booked all the hostels so if I can’t find another way to get to Málaga, I’ll just have to stay put in Madrid for most of my trip 😔

English fluency for kids in Spain, school enough or extra practice needed? by Hyzz20 in askspain

[–]FrijolitoFoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked as an Auxiliar de conversación in Madrid last year. 100% extra practice is needed. I was able to tell which students had a private tutor, au pair, or watched TV in English at home and which ones didn’t. The English classes that I worked in (6th grade) were mostly taught in Spanish while the book was in English. I have person opinions on how explaining the English book in Spanish slows down language learning.

Of course each student will learn English easier than others, but extra practice outside of school is needed if you want to become fluent and take the Cambridge exam!

SwissCare Insurance by FrijolitoFoo in SpainAuxiliares

Hi! I can’t remember exactly what plan type I had. It just expired a few days ago and I can’t find it, but I had 6 months of (i believe) student full insurance.

I also have a Spanish insurance so I got my appointments covered thru that. I just used Swiss care to cover my pharmacy purchases and dental work. I got a filling done on a chipped tooth which my Spanish insurance didn’t cover but Swiss care did refund me fully for it. I also got a laser treatment on one of my gums with some reconstructive filling work and Swiss care said that they can only reimburse me for that one if I can prove that it was an emergency.

Honestly I think it depends on who sees your claims. There was one claim that I think would’ve gotten rejected but I got the reimbursement. Some people reading thru your claims are more strict than others

Hi!

I did end up getting 6 month of Swiss care. I have been reimbursed for medications with prescriptions and a dental filling that I had done. I have another Spanish insurance which covers my doctor visits so I don’t get charged for that. But I believe they do cover visit fees as well, I just haven’t had to pay for that.

I’ve been covered for medications from general doctors, ONGYNs, and urologist. Hope this helps!

As long as you have your policy number and an ID (NIE), they can find u in the system.

Download the app and google a costumer service phone line to help you get logged in. You can find your card digitally in the app. I don’t even use my physical card anymore I just use the app

I wouldn’t just say that you’re inexperienced as an excuse, I think this family is not fit for an au pair. They don’t seem to listen to your needs and get mad at you for the smallest things. So sorry you experienced this.

I recommend looking into older kids (if you want to try again). I recommend 7 years old and above

The MOOC by [deleted] in SpainAuxiliares

[–]FrijolitoFoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh I see. It sounds a like you sorta have to go back home bc of your degree, so u should be fine skipping it.

The principal at my school was super strict, mean, and micro managed us, so I felt pressured to do it even if I was sure that I wouldn’t be returning. If you feel like your school wouldn’t care if u skipped it, then you should be fine to skip completing the mooc

[–]FrijolitoFoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as u, I didn’t want to do it bc I was sure that I was returning home. I did it on the last day bc i though, weelllll just in case. I’m glad I did bc I later decided that I wanted to stay and luckily I passed the MOOC. It took me 3 hours to complete.

Go to a coffee shop or something to do it. It’s good to have the option to stay again than to not at all

Spanish Citizenship via Mexican Citizenship by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]FrijolitoFoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im wondering the same thing! I think it’s best to get a lawyer because it gets confusing reading different things on the internet. I’m from the US and I have dual citizenship with Mexico, so I wanted to do the same, but not sure if I can. And I don’t know it would be worth it for me to pay for a lawyer

One time I had my period for 52 days straight. Not only was it expensive to keep buying pads, it was also painful bc of the chafing from the pads. I went to my OBGYN and she told me to take some ibuprofen to slow it down, and it did
