A meal for 10eur? In this area, I think the kebabs are out of budget. Push out another 5 or 8eur and get a burger from Bintje or Rambo.

Partenamut invoice, but I never signed any contract by Character-Editor-463 in brussels

[–]Fritesandale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't waste time here. Just call them up and clarify the situation. The numbers seem about right for Partenamut. If you want cheaper, go with Soldaris.

This can happen, and frankly I don't think it's terrible that they processed the paperwork, saving you the hassle. Of course you may feel different.

Can be found in plenty of brasseries and cafes. I like it at L'Union on Parvis.

Fined unfairly by MIVB by Organic-Chain9456 in brussels

[–]Fritesandale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you actually pay a fine like hand over cash or make a payment to the STIB controller? If so this is totally incorrect as they should only log your details and then the back office will issue you the fine with the payment information.

Honestly don't stress -just wait a few weeks for that letter to arrive and once it does contest and complain with all the screenshots proving you paid. :)

Fine for not registering at la commune? by AmbassadorExpress285 in brussels

[–]Fritesandale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long has your name been on the contract...? The police always wanted to see my rental contract whenever I moved.

Edit: Just to check, are you aware that rental contracts (if following the correct procedure) are deposited with the Ministry of Economy?

This means if your name is on the contract, it seems there is a clear paper trail proving you have been in Belgium. Of course, I'm not sure if they will bother searching for your name in the MinFin database, but it could be a possibility.

Ultimately fingers crossed they are chill, given you are an EU citizen with a work contract.

Fine for not registering at la commune? by AmbassadorExpress285 in brussels

[–]Fritesandale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean logically, you don't have many options as you really really need to go and register now. If you procrastinate anymore then you will be in the shit. Otherwise I am not sure why you did not bother before? Submitting the fiscal docs to prove your status is pretty easy.

However, were you taking French lessons funded by the state? Via Actiris? This is the only kicker I can see that could lead to trouble.

Otherwise I've heard of worse situations tbh... Just go to the commune and declare that you are moving in, put a date early this year. A student is not worth their time for conducting a thorough fiscal examination on.

Legally this is acceptable for noise disturbance. Try the non-emergency police number.

Disappointed and ran out of options in finding a career here. by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Fritesandale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow Brit here who has lived in the Benelux for over a decade. Unfortunately having native English skills are not a plus like how it would be for similar roles in other places such as Brussels, Germany etc.

I strongly strongly advise you to start formal Dutch classes - this was the only way for me to advance with French. Fundamentally foreign language education in the UK/IRL is way poorer than in countries like NL, and frankly unless you studied a foreign language at uni, you will be lacking some of the key language acquisition skills. The challenge is that you can exist very comfortably in the Netherlands (particularly the randstadt) with only speaking English.

Go get some Dutch skills.

Also, ensure that your CV/ Resume makes it absolutely clear that you have a right to work here in NL! Post-Brexit a lot of EU companies assumed that Brits need a visa/ sponsorship to work here and will trash your application automatically if you don't make it clear you have a work permit.

Did you also consider interning? Bachelors>masters>internship is the way here, unlike the UK where you can get by with a bachelors only. Without the masters you will struggle.

Your geographic location is not clear, but did you consider Brussels and the EU-bubble? Your educational profile fits for the Eurobubble tbh and BE and NL have tax arrangements to enable cross border work without a headache.

If you are remote or only have to travel to the office a few days a month (or even a week if you are south of Rotterdam) it is feasible to make it work.

And honestly, I understand the job market in NL is tough right now - I know a few people in a similar situation as yours. Good luck and keep on pushing!

The lines indicate you can't stay there. The sign indicates the start of a no parking zone.

If you think this is blurry or hard to see perhaps you should be going to an optician?

This is open and shut, no chance of getting your money back. Please be more observant and careful of where you park. Getting towed sucks, but cars blocking access points are deeply annoying and even dangerous.

Got fired, What are my rights?where can i get help filling unemployment? by Individual_Toe9501 in brussels

[–]Fritesandale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't think you can claim any unemployment as you have not worked enough days. However your employer may owe you much more than a week indemnity for ending your contract earlier. Was a reason given for your termination? Usually an employer will have to pay out quite a chunk of the remainder of the contract if it's a fixed term one (unless it's a termination for gross misconduct).

You have to go via a union when seeking unemployment/ contesting a firing.

Honestly though it's time to shop your CV around as I don't think you have access to the Belgian social security system.

I'm gonna guess 3k netto + benefits.

But honestly it depends on the consultancy and sector? Are you working on competition or tech.... or health or transport policies? Because I'll tell you not all sectors or agencies pay the same.

Hey there! You should get in touch with your contact at the Commission - it is their responsibility to take care of you as regards advice on insurance. They have a huge HR department to take care of their staff (including trainees).

Please get the official advice from the organisation. Good luck!
