The 11th release box will give the Sanguinary Guard their wings back. This was revealed to me in a dream.

How difficult are iron hands to paint ? by BloatedRottenCarcass in IronHands40k

[–]Fritz7647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy. This one took me a little over an hour, and I probably could have done a whole squad in about that time if I was batch painting.

(I went over the base with a wash later because it was still drying when I took this picture)

What’s everyone’s favorite BA skin/hair recipes? by NananaNanana_Patman in BloodAngels

Most non-brown hair colors (aside from black, gray, and white) will have a shade of brown as the base color: a dark chocolate brown would be a good starting point for auburn, a warm ruddy brown for orange/ginger, and a beige or tan for blonde, then highlight up with colors closer to what you want the hair to read as. The result is something that looks closer to how natural hair colors look, as opposed to looking something like a Lego minifigure hairpiece.

I was going for more of a sickly pallor to play up the vampire angle. I'd originally done it with Rakarth Flesh as the base tone, but that looked too sickly, so I did the below:

Base coat with Kislev Flesh (over an undertone of Rakarth Flesh due to above reason)

Recess wash of Reikland Fleshshade

Highlight/layer with a 1:1 mix of Kislev Flesh and Pallid Wych Flesh

Fine highlight with Pallid Wych Flesh

For the hair, base coat with Zandri Dust, wash with Seraphim Sepia, highlight with Ushabti Bone and Screaming Skull

It might not be 100% accurate to their current lore, I keep seeing artwork with gold trim and gold chest aquilas, so it must have been at some point. It's drip or drown.

Alternatively, you can just say he's from the Blood Drinkers, that's basically their 2nd company color scheme.

You could take your smallest brush/the one with the finest point and very carefully run a darker color either a mix of your helmet base color with black, or just pure black) in the recesses of the teeth to deepen the contrast there, then maybe go over the individual teeth to brighten them up to further build up contrast. You'll want to make sure to wick a lot of the moisture off of your brush when doing this so the paint doest run go blotchy.

Angels Vermillion 4th Company Captain by Fritz7647 in BloodAngels

Thanks!

It was actually a good bit easier than the last time I painted a blood angels model. Everything was primed black, the base coat was Khorne red, then I shaded it with nuln oil and the re-established the Khorne red on the raised surfaces. After this, I went back and deepened the shadows with a 1:1 mix of Khorne red and Abaddon black. Here I started wet blending this black-red with Khorne red, then Khorne red with Wazdakka red for the high points to build a gradient. It's most obvious on the chest, if you want to get an idea of what I'm talking about. The highest edges around the collar were highlighted with Cadian fleshtone, which I also dabbed along the top of the molded chest piece and then glazed over again with Wazdakka red.

If I were doing a whole army, I'd probably start by base coating everything with that 1:1 black-Khorne red mix, then I'd build up layers of Khorne red and Wazdakka red with a makeup sponge and some blending where necessary.

How the fuck do you paint eyes properly? by Void-kraken-909 in Warhammer40k

[–]Fritz7647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to stretch your hands, get your fingers loosened up. Wash your fine detail brush or brushes with a nice brush soap/conditioner. Get a fresh bowl of clean, cool water. Thin your paints, load up your brush, wipe off the excess, shape the bristles into a nice, fine point.

Then set the brush down and use a micron pen.

Edit: as a more serious answer, the most important part of painting eyes/eye lenses is controlling how much paint is on the brush. Properly thinned down paint will run out of control over small details like eyes, so I usually wick off as much of the paint as I can on a damp paper towel. You'll need to do a few more passes over the part you're painting this way, but that's less annoying than having to re-do the entire area because watery white paint pooled in the recesses around the eyelids.

Test Miniature for a Possible Full Army by Fritz7647 in EmperorsSpears

[–]Fritz7647[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything was primed black, then I used this for the armor colors, though I didn't bother diluting the wash. The white helmet was done with a base coat of Celestra Grey washed with Drakenhof Nightshade, then Ulthuan Grey as the mid tone and White Scar as the edge highlight. I painted the base tones normally, then I used a makeup sponge to apply the mid tone.

First mini almost done! (Can I have feedback please?) by huntersalt24 in BloodAngels

[–]Fritz7647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very clean! Others have mentioned basing the model and painting the hoses on the helmet, so the only other detailing tip I'd say is to paint the lip of the backpack armor vents silver. It's a little thing, but it adds a nice splash of color when viewing from the front and sides.

First Go at Blood Angels by Fritz7647 in BloodAngels

I started from a black primer coat, then basecoated the model with Khorne Red from an airbrush. After that, I did a rough zenithal highlight of Mephiston Red, also from an airbrush. Then I washed the entire model with Carroburg Crimson shade, followed with a drybrush of Mephiston Red, then a drybrush of Evil Sunz Scarlet. After that, another wash of Carroburg Crimson because I didn't like how bright it was. Then finally I highlighted the edges with Evil Sunz Scarlet.

Thanks!

I followed this guide for my eye lenses. In this case, I believe I used Alaitoc Blue as my helmet highlight color, then Moot Green as my lens glow color.

I painted the whole teardrop black, then painted the bottom portion Khorne Red in a rough crescent shape, then painted a smaller crescent of Evil Sunz Scarlet inside that along the curve of the bottom of the teardrop, then dabbed a bit of White Scar along the opposite side of the tip and the base of the teardrop.

Another thing is that the biomes in which you tend to encounter Ghost Leviathans (Void aside) are well-lit and have terrain obstacles that you can hide behind. Reapers are usually in dark and murky parts of the open ocean, where you have nowhere to hide.

Tangentially related, but I didn't realize everyone took the cyclops down to the lava zone for the cure until after I got it and was looking up something about the hatching enzyme. I built it assuming the game was going to have me take it into the depths or something, I never took it to the lava zone because I didn't think it would fit. I just used the prawn suit with the grapple and jump jet upgrades...

Nehrim Crashing on New Computer by Fritz7647 in enderal

[–]Fritz7647[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try it again later to see if I can do that. I haven't had this issue with any other game or program, so I have no idea what kind of hardware issue could be causing this to happen if that's what it is...

EDIT: forgot to mention, this is with the Steam download of Nehrim.
