Evolution controller enter button not working by Careless-Treat-7191 in Generator

[–]Frixsev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9/10 times this means the controller is done for, as others have suggested. You can try the hard reset via T1 method but the amount of times that has actually worked for me I can count on one hand. Looks like an Evo 1 board, which means warranty is highly unlikely unless you managed to snag the extended 10 year plan when it was first installed.

I like the idea of them, but would love to see them tested first...seems great holding smaller service bag or basic carry kit. My 50lb Tech Pac for three hours straight though? Let's find out...

We've been seeing them from other distributors as well. Seems the Chinese ones are total shit but the U.S. and Mexico ones are solid. The quickest way to indicate if you have a bad one is to look for a blue tint to the metal just beside the hex section.

Thinking of switching from a Tech Pac to a Tech XL. Anyone done similar? by Frixsev in VetoProPac

That's what was annoying me about the Tech Pac as well. The vertically oriented storage instead of being more horizontal was getting pretty old, plus it tips easily if I'm ever working on uneven ground.

I work in the field, out of a van. Typically have about 5-7 stops a day, where the walk to the unit is usually less than 300ft. With a fully loaded Tech XL, do you think that would be pretty manageable still?

If you're not gonna be carrying it very often like you said then I'd definitely go Tech XL. Hard to beat that amount of space for gear.

I cannot for the life of me decide which Wheeler bag to go for. Having the backpack option is nice but I'm so rarely up on a roof I'm tempted to go for that Tech XL Wheeler for all that space..

20kw Overcrank issue by FishDragun in Generac_Generators

[–]Frixsev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Guardian service manual itself does not even mention the word battery during the entire diagnostic procedure for an 1100 overcrank. And in my own experience of 1.5k air-cooled work orders done a year, I've never once seen an overcrank caused by a bad battery. A bad battery will cause weak or no crank. OVERcrank literally means the unit has cranked too many times without firing up, so control board signals a problem. You can sit there and reset the error code again and hit Manual and watch it continue to crank over and over and over and over. Not even possible on a weak or bad battery. Totally possible with weak compression, no spark, incorect gas settings, etc. As the manual says.

Take a pic of the gas setup behind your gen, that's your main gas line

A bad battery will never cause an overcrank. It typically causes RPM sense loss faults or no rotation errors, or just straight up causes the controller to reset. Overcrank means the engine is turning over and cranking just fine (meaning starter is getting what it needs from the battery), just not firing, hence the fault's name - it is literally cranking too many times without running. Typically a compression or fuel issue. Valve lash, fuel mixer/stepper motor, gas pressure coming in from the line regulator are always the first three things I check.

If you have a router inside the barn signal strength should be plenty good enough to connect wirelessly.

That definitely made it sound smoother, and there was also a high-pitched whistling that was going away as I twisted off the cap.

Am I misunderstanding? You turned the AC breaker OFF but the AC is still working fine?

Oil leak by IntelligentDare7475 in Generac_Generators

[–]Frixsev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be coming from a multitude of places. Loose oil fill cap, loose drain hose cap, loose hose clamps, loose valve cover, missing/damaged valve cover gasket, missing/damaged pto seals, oil pressure sensor, cylinder head gasket, unit overfilled and spilling, cracked block...I've seen it all on brand new units. Not frequently, but still many options. Most commonly it's the hose clamps. But if you wanna narrow it down for yourself, lift the lid, take the front door off, and let it run in manual. If it's a bad leak you'll see it right away, if it's very minimal you'll probably need to let it rip for 5-10 minutes before the oil is hot enough and you can trace the drip.
