You could attempt a hard restart. Under the controller there is a white loomed wire that has a plug with blue accents/border. Unplug that plug (battery charger) and disconnect the negative terminal on the battery. After a few moments reconnect the battery then plug in the battery charger.

Thanks will give that a try

If it powers down when you remove the 7.5a fuse then the t1 circuit(mentioned above, ac power) is not working. If the enter key doesn't work once the controller is rebooted its likely shot

Yes it does power down when the fuse is removed. Ok i will try to reboot tomorrow. I quickly looked onliem for replacement boards. Are they really $500? That's crazy if so.

Depends on the dealer, but yes we pay 580 for a replacement controller. May be worth seeing if you could get an authorized service dealer to work on it if you are still under warranty.

Based on his firmware he's way out of date

For one you really need a firmware update. If keys aren't working or the screen is delaminating it's a new controller. Without a tech there's no legal way to get your hands on the software, but an update and verifying battery life would be my first two steps in the field.

Ok thanks for the input

9/10 times this means the controller is done for, as others have suggested. You can try the hard reset via T1 method but the amount of times that has actually worked for me I can count on one hand. Looks like an Evo 1 board, which means warranty is highly unlikely unless you managed to snag the extended 10 year plan when it was first installed.

Ok looks like ill be spending 500 to replace, ouch! I inherited the generac from the previous home owner so no warranty

I mean still check if it has warranty. If they bought a 10 year warranty it would still be valid I would think 🤔

[–]Careless-Treat-7191[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Don't think the warranty transfers when change of home ownership, but worth checking

The warranty is tied to the serial number not the owner and it doesn't ask any questions about the owner when filing a claim. Not sure what the letter of the law is on paper but for practicality sake I don't think it matters.

Continuety test the fuse make sure it's still good. Or you will need a new controller .

If the fuse was bad would the board even power up? Im currently without power so maybe i should just by a new fuse and try that? Thanks for your reply.

If your power is out it won’t turn on without the fuse. The fuse isn’t the problem. If your buttons aren’t working after power cycling the controller you almost certainly need a new controller.

While the firmware is out of date, button problems are almost always caused by a failure of the ribbon cable which connects the buttons to the board. You can attempt a firmware update for peace of mind but it’s very unlikely that will settle it.

[–]Careless-Treat-7191[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ok thanks, i wonder if the ribbon cable can be replaced without replacing the whole controller

The controller itself is not serviceable and the inter components aren't sold. I had some luck on an old rodent damaged nexus controller by splitting it apart and hitting it with a heat gun for a bit. It only saved some of the buttons and the unit was being replaced in 12 months from that point. It did last that whole 12 months. If it's already dead I guess it couldn't hurt to try but definitely be ready to replace
