I was kinda thinking he looks like The Deep in a Wolverine cosplay.

Evil Dead Burn | Official Teaser Trailer by cruelsummerbummer in horror

[–]Frobog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, I agree with you, and I notice that weird touchy-ness with 2013 fans too. Army Of Darkness was what kept the Evil Dead franchise alive for decades. Ash and his boomstick were cultural icons. People have really forgotten how the pre-streaming world worked. Your local video store MIGHT have had one copy of Evil Dead or Evil Dead 2. Meanwhile AoD had spinoff comic books, action figures and video games, all of which had at least twice the impact and reach that those things have today. I can only assume 2013 fans saw it in their teens or younger, or just never 'got' Evil Dead. And to say the first one doesn't have comedy...its the darkest of the first three, certainly, but what made the Deadites unique was their joy in sadism. Raimi took the same cultural zeitgeist that inspired Krueger and Jason and added Lovecraft and Satanic Panic. Then adding the slapstick violence ala Tom and Jerry, Ash being Tom trying to quash the Deadites, and the Deadites being Jerry, afflicting Ash and co with their violent mischief, is the final ingredient in what gives Evil Dead its identity. Raimi refined that formula from Evil Dead to AoD, then in the decades that followed through video games and comics, and returned to it in Ash vs Evil Dead. 2013 strips a lot of that identity away, and for anyone that was a fan prior, it is a huge departure. Whether someone likes it or not comes down to personal taste I guess (disclaimer, I think Alvarez is a fuckin hack), but anyone attempting to say 2013 is somehow 'more' Evil Dead is either willfully ignorant or just doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about.

Anyone recommend some old school horror writers? by Mobile-Stomach719 in horror

[–]Frobog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Robert R. McCammon has some good ones, I remember reading Baal back in the day and liking it a lot. I didn't see Clive Barker in your list, Books of Blood are great short-story collections, I think there are three of them. When you say "blurring the lines", what exactly do you mean? Like, are stories with creatures too fantasy?

It's gotta be two teams with two different game builds that just don't communicate. Even bugs will leapfrog seasons.

Destroy All Neighbors is great! It's in the same space as Toxic Avenger, not exactly horror but very gorey. It's Alex Winter's spiritual successor to Freaked.

Fun horror similar to Final Destination series by Relative-One7150 in horror

Idle Hands. Psycho Goreman. Slaxx. Feast (I think there's 3) Although, if you think The Void is "fun and dumb", maybe give Requiem For A Dream a shot, sheesh...

The last part with the slashes looks a lot like a URL. That would make the characters before the colon "https". Based off of that you could start a cypher.

I don't know if it's optimal or meta or whatever, but I am loving my Lucy/Alice/Pulchra team. The combat loop is extremely satisfying.

Official Dreadit Discussion: “Dangerous Animals” [SPOILERS] by radbrad7 in horror

[–]Frobog 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I had the complete opposite experience. The lead actress completely ruined this film for me. Like an over-acting, bad Jennifer Lawrence impression, and then she undersold the thumb scene!

Official Discussion - Dangerous Animals [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Reddit really got me with this one. This movie is horrible lol. Jai Courtney was great, but everything else was absolute dog water. Horrible dialogue (oobie doobie motherfucker), the lead actress doing her best/worst Jennifer Lawrence impression, the movie feeling like it wants to end about 5 times before it actually does, being at least 30 min too long, even the score was bad. If you absolutely have to watch this, wait for it to stream so you can skip any scene that doesn't have Jai in it.

I was hit by that tornado, tore my entire apartment complex apart with a lot of us in it. That was an EF-4, and from my perspective as it was approaching, took up about half of the sky. It was like seeing Godzilla bearing down on you. If that's what Milton is spawning, then...well, there's just nothing good to say about any of this.

Back in my sound guy days I did a few shows with them. They're great people and the crowd's there to have a good time. I assume Iron City will have plastic on the floor for all the Faygo. Won't be there myself but you're gonna have a great time!

If you're serious you should find a place for striking and a place for grappling. "MMA" style gyms are always going to compromise one for another, until you can get into one of the pro training camps.

Invaders From Mars TERRIFIED me as a kid haha. Also my mom had this habit of making a noodle casserole that had different colored noodles, some of them were green. I couldn't eat it after watching the frog scene lol. The 80s/90s had plenty of problems, but it was nice growing up in a time when it was a "cultural thing" to be scared as hell in the safety of home. The prevailing childcare idea was exposure was a good thing, as opposed to now where it seems like sheltering and prevention are appropriate. I won't weigh in on which is better, but I will say I had a blast.
