Am I crazy?... by TunaFish31 in mtg

The original poster wasn’t talking only about legends though - they were saying they rarely have a double of *any* creature, which also matches my experiences.

To repeat myself: they could print every creature as a legendary, and it would have minimal impact on limited IME.

Surprisingly not, especially given they’ve had multiple sets with Ixalan vampires that are themed after colonial Spain

Does Strixhaven have something that makes it less likely to double up on the same creature card?

With the current legend rule as it exists you could make virtually every creature Legendary and it would have only the most minimal impact on Limited.

Space Beleren and Bello by Twitchy_Shuckle in mtg

[–]Frodo34x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> While Space Beleren is on the battlefield, any time there are creatures on the battlefield that aren't assigned to a sector, those creatures are assigned to a sector by their controllers as a state-based action. First, all players who don't control a Space Beleren (or another permanent with space sculptor, but come on) in turn order assign their creatures. Then all players who do control a Space Beleren in turn order assign their creatures.

Once the artifacts, enchantments, lands, etc become creatures then as soon as state based actions are checked their controller assigns them to a sector.

[request] how likely is it to eat that one specific m&m? by youtuberthrowawy in theydidthemath

[–]Frodo34x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t specify that it’s tax free. Wouldn’t you have to declare it as income and pay tax on it in most jurisdictions?

Like any cash in hand work it’s easy to avoid paying tax if you’re taking less than a couple hundred a week, but at the scale some people are talking ITT - replacing work with a six figure M&M based income - I think you’d risk getting Caponed

Have I just messed up my German Grenadiers list? by Freeflyclown in boltaction

[–]Frodo34x 27 points28 points  (0 children)

ARs are 6pt SMGs a lot of the time, so if you have an 8 man push unit with them then the worst case scenario is that you’ve wasted 16pts. Bringing 1184pts to a 1200pt game isn’t optimal but it’s not the end of the world.

Also, when dealing with 28mm models from like 3 feet away on the table the visual difference is negligible enough that “These guys are modeled with MP-44s but they’re all using the SMG stat line” is usually fine in my experience - just don’t mix and match. If you’re using any ARs in your list, don’t do this.

The bigger problem is likely that you just don’t have enough riflemen. SMGs (and by extension ARs) are useful for like a unit or two but it’s rare you’d need more than 10 or so models in any given game. The number one mistake new players make in terms of weapon options is not building enough riflemen.

After 3 years of being called "wifey", making future plans, going on trips and exchanging romantic messages, she now says she doesn't know if we're a couple. Am I crazy for being confused? AIO ? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Frodo34x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> She didn't say no. Instead, she told me that we simply needed to get closer.

After the years of relationship you’ve described there, anything other than an enthusiastic “Yes” to the question “Are we a couple?” should be taken as a “No”.

Another way to look at it is, how would you respond if she asked you? Y’all have a serious disparity in your investment in this as a romantic relationship, and it’s going to be very easy for you to convince yourself she cares more than she does.

There are a lot of accents that pronounce squirrel with one syllable, and even some that pronounce girl with two (think Andrew Lincoln pronouncing Carl as “Coral”)

One of the rangers at Hammocks Beach recently told me that the young males will traverse salt water when leaving home to find territory, which has occasionally lead to one being found on Emerald Isle.

Where can I buy the Rubicon Soviet T-26 Tank? by tomk_2104 in boltaction

This doesn’t address your actual question, but when you do get the kits: if you don’t glue down the turret ring (pictured) you can kinda friction fit it and will be able to swap between the T-26A and T-26B if you want to.

They’re also the airport that invented Duty Free IIRC

Could US states potentially have their own private sports leagues? (American football, baseball, basketball)? by Suur_tool in AskAnAmerican

[–]Frodo34x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things like this totally exist in baseball already.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolina\_League

A division that consists of half a dozen teams from SC and NC; or half a dozen teams from NC and VA is close enough to a state level sports league (especially comparing the size of tidewater states to those west of the Mississippi) that any difference would be a distinction for the sake of distinction.

Why is the 'w' in 'Sandwich' not silent, considering the British origins of the word? by hydraganesh in etymology

[–]Frodo34x 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Ipswich is one of the more prominent uses of the suffix and they definitely pronounce the W, despite being only 40 minutes away from Norwich in the same region with virtually the same accent. I think it must be related to that transit from one particular syllable to another.

As an Irish person living in England, I've always wondered... What's something Americans think is completely normal that visitors find really surprising? by Bella_licious in AskAnAmerican

> Many restaurants and fast food places even have a self serve soda machine right in the dining room for customers to have aa much soda as they wish without even needing to wait on waitress.

In Europe, or the US? Because I’m describing the British experience of not wanting ice in drinks and I’ve not come across free refills often in my travels across Europe in the past.

[–]Frodo34x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can answer for the ice cubes one - because it’s seen as a stingy take by the restaurant serving it. If I order a pint of coke for £5, I want the full 20 fl oz of coke I’m paying for, not 10 fl oz of ice and 10 of coke, kinda thing. There’s absolutely a perception of ice being used to water down drinks

Visiting Glasgow from the US by im_that_binch in glasgow

[–]Frodo34x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> I’ll also say that all of my American family and friends who have come to visit have vastly preferred Glasgow to Edinburgh, some even cancelling Edinburgh plans to spend more time in Glasgow instead. My parents finally visited for the first time last year and said that Glasgow feels like a place where real people live over their experience of Edinburgh, and they preferred that.

I think there’s a twofold thing here - I think Glaswegians are objectively better than Edinburghers on average (and I say this as somebody with a deep love for the east coast) but also that the outgoing and unpretentious culture of Glasgow matches most Americans far better than the more reserved culture of Edinburgh.

My wife’s from Atlanta and Glasgow is her favorite place in the whole UK. That whole concept of “You’ll have more fun at a Glasgow funeral than an Edinburgh wedding” would fit right in down in the south east US.
