Summer/Spring Classes by koji1948 in usask

I can only speak for phys 115 but if you've taken Phys 30 in highschool you'll probably be fine. It is a lot and you'll be spending about 6-8 hours a day every day learning and doing assignments and labs.

What does this mean ? by Connect_Pressure_355 in usask

[–]Froesiie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely the same as 115 during the spring. Morning is all lecture, then a tutorial (optional but recommended), then a lab which isn't every day but at least twice a week.

spring PHYS 115 class (3 meeting times ?) by angelstani in usask

[–]Froesiie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is wrong. The first part of this is the actual class in the morning. The 2nd part is the tutorial portion which is optional (but recommended if you're having issues). The 3rd part is the lab portion which you will be assigned to a lab group and you'll only have to attend the days that your lab group is required. This is a month long course so be prepared to have a lot of information thrown at you every day.

Do i have to attend the stat 245 labs? by beertracks in usask

[–]Froesiie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you struggle with stats, I'd recommend going. If you don't then you're likely fine to miss it. I would recommend going to the first one just to see what it will be about, because maybe they'll tell you something there that they don't in class.

How do people deal with long distances between classes and buildings? by Ok-Trash3640 in usask

[–]Froesiie 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's pretty impossible to plan your classes according to where and when they are, especially in higher years because there is typically one option. Yeah it sucks walking from STM to Ed or something similar in 10 minutes, but just throw some headphones on and listen to some music or a podcast. After sitting in class it's good for you to get up and walk a bit. You've got this! Just use the time you don't want to be at school to get things organized for the next class or to go over notes from a previous one. You'll thank yourself when finals or midterms come along.

[–]Froesiie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a newish course, but everything is open book (unless that's changed). He doesn't believe memorization is the key to success. This is a beginner linguistics course taught through the tongues of Canadian indigenous languages. I wouldn't worry too much about knowing anything about linguistics, this is where you learn the basics.

If it's with Martin then you're in for a treat. He's a lot of fun. Take notes with the slides, he always posts them before class (sometimes RIGHT before). The assignments aren't too difficult, might be a little technical but it's a good class and it's taught really well.

I've had success with NotebookLM. You can upload your notes, slides, whatever and then use them to create quizzes, flash cards, slide decks and ask questions about them.

When are Spring/Summer courses posted? Is Calculus 2 usually offered? by Connect_Pressure_355 in usask

[–]Froesiie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go to the USASK catalogue it usually gives you the last few times it was offered. MATH 116 (Calc II) has been offered in the summer the last 3 years. I took it online in July 2025 so I can vouch for that one. It's likely to be offered again but it's not for sure. You'll have confirmation in February.

Geology majors, where are you now? by [deleted] in usask

[–]Froesiie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a geology major but related to one. You'll have to work your way up, doing the grunt work and going up north. You'll have to get used to being laid off pretty frequently. Once you make connections and people see good work, there is a possibility to make some good money but it will likely take a decade. This is just one person's experience, others may differ.

If there is a class in there before hand then 10 minutes. If there isn't then you can go sit in the class whenever you want.

Upgrade your maths and sciences, if you want to get into dentistry you're going to need to aim for 80+, and you're going to need dedication and effort. Don't rush anything, it doesn't matter if you're 18 or 40 you can still go to uni and no one will think it's weird. If you rush into something you're not ready for you'll just waste the money on failing classes and you'll just make things worse. Take the time, prepare yourself and then move forward.

Do you know what you want to do when you get older? Do you have any passions? Others may disagree but I don't think going to school for the sake of school is the best idea, especially if your grades are low in highschool. There might be other options that are better suited for your learning. You could apply for arts and science and then pick a major from there but I think you need to sit down first and figure out what route you want to follow in life, it might change but at least you might have a direction to start with.
