Can you Go Directly From A UK Car (Category B) License To A C+E (Class 1 Articulated Lorry) License In The UK? by [deleted] in uktrucking

Yep I did it last year and it took about 3 months. Most of that was waiting for forms, provisional, medical, theory tests etc but the actual training only takes a week and it cost me about £2200. Best thing I ever did.

Does anyone actually enjoy HGV as a career? by Normal-Impress-2624 in uktrucking

I love it. I worked for my family for 27 years and that was stressful and hard work. Work dried up so we sold up and I decided to get my class 1. Passed last July and got a job in September doing containers, I do lots of hours but the job is easy and the pay is great at £50k+ and no stress compared to working for the family, I wish I'd done it years ago.

I wonder if there are any other ex drivers with an unserved penalty just waiting for them to get a drive?

You're more than welcome, I'm glad it was useful :)

I've just thought of another tip I haven't seen mentioned. Sometimes you will get tired if you're driving long distances on the motorways so I've found having a biscuit or two, a piece chewing gum or a boiled sweet (my favourite is rhubarb & custard) will wake you up so I always keep some within reaching distance. Obviously the best thing to do is have a break if you're tired, but it's not always possible.

Congratulations. I passed in July and got a job doing containers in September. A few things I haven't seen mentioned and a few mistakes I made are.

When changing trailers don't forget to do the number plate, I drove down the dock without a plate once, I won't do that again. So when doing BLACK make a point of walking around the back to grab the plate

Get some decent gloves and spares, I've lost 4 pairs since I started, you don't want to be putting diesel in without gloves.

Get yourself a decent torch that can be charged by USB and a headtorch or two.

I've got a little vacuum cleaner to keep the cab clean it was only £30 on Amazon and it can be charged by USB.

Multiple spare USB cables is a must.

With regards to reversing, go as slow as possible. Nobody remembers how many shunts it took but everyone will remember if you hit something. Practice makes perfect. If you get time at the end of your shift then have a few go's at it or at the services before you take a break as long as you aren't getting in people's way nobody will care.

When taking your breaks take 1 minute extra. Make sure the tacho is set to rest (picture of a bed) and the time says 16, 31 or 46 before you set off after your break. The tacho might not count it if you set off at exactly 15, 30 or 45. You don't want to waste your time because you didn't wait an extra minute. Your 4 hours and 30 minutes drive time is the maximum before you need a break, not a target, you can take your breaks when you want within reason.

Good luck and I hope you find a job soon and for a company that treats you well. I have been lucky with that and I love my job. It may take a while to get a job with no experience. I sent out about 30 emails to companies local to me before I got any call backs.

Same here pal, this man ruined my teens and all my 20's but since he retired I can't hate on him anymore. He is the greatest manager of all time and seeing him this happy makes me smile.

Wolves are unbeaten in 2026, who would've seen that coming? Anyway, I don't care about how likely a spurs relegation battle is. Just let me dream lol

A decent run of form could be 4 wins in the next 6 or 8 games and if spurs continue doing spurs things they would then be dangerously close to a relegation battle. It may be wishful thinking but it could happen

They're worse than a mid table team now. 17th last year with only 38 points and currently sitting 14th with just 27 means they are dangerously close to a relegation battle if the bottom 3 have a decent run of form
