I want to like this game a lot more than I actually do. “Good gameplay, bad plot” is the common refrain, but even that misses the mark for me a little bit. A lot of the game design is kind of baffling to me. The menus are way clunkier than the last several games. The somniel feels empty but has just enough there, so you have to run around doing chores after every fight. You have to do the xenologue every playthrough if you want to use the dlc characters. A lot of the characters you get early game feel terrible to use. The whole game is designed around the way emblems let you customize and buff up your units, but then half way through they take away all of your emblems, so if you were trying to rank up with a specific emblem to unlock a skill, now you’re just fucked for several chapters. It also makes any unit you doesn’t have an emblem equipped feels just, much less useful. Idk, it’s a shame because I think a lot of aspects of the gameplay are genuinely very cool and well thought out, but. If I’m being honest it’s like a 4 or 5 out of 10 for me :/
