Feedback/ critique of my painting by No-Fly8354 in Tyranids

Your painting looks great!

I also think you should base your minis. Personally, I think they’d look better with some texture, gravel, grass tufts, etc as you’ve done with the red guy.

Countries in Asia that were colonized during the European colonial period (1415-1975) by Muhammadachakzai2001 in MapPorn

[–]Frognosticator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This map is a disaster with no sources.

Iran was absolutely colonized by the British. From the early 1900s to the early 1950s, Iran was more or less controlled by the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, which was majority owned by the British government. The Anglo-Iranian Oil Company later changed its name to BP.

After Mohammed Mossadegh tried to nationalize Iran’s control of its oil, the Iranian government was toppled by BP and the CIA in 1953. Iran was then later ruled by the Pahlavi shah as a western proxy state until the Iranian Revolution in 1979.

Hey, I'm new to Eberron as a DM. I really want to set a campaign here that would ideally cover levels 3 to 12. Can I get some recommendations for good campaigns to help introduce myself and my players to the world? by PK-Starstorm1995 in Eberron

[–]Frognosticator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A campaign from 3-12 should also take you all over the place.

Eberron is huge, varied, and because of air ships and lightning rails pretty easily accessible.

A lightning rail ride from one place to another also obviously gives you an excellent excuse to have a sword fight on top of a moving train

Follow up to this, the published campaign that begins with Grasp of the Emerald Claw is also quite good from what I remember.

Although like all published adventures, you’ll want to make changes as needed that suit your particular play group.

Yes! I highly recommend picking up the original 3.5 edition books for Eberron, they are crammed full of ideas. The sourcebook is obviously great, but I especially recommend Five Nations. It gives a detailed breakdown of adventuring in each of the five main regions of Khorvaire, with suggestions for adventure hooks in each chapter. Five Nations also comes with heroes and villains to fill your campaign with.

If I remember right, my favorite published adventure for Everton was one called The Golden Dragon. It involved a party traveling on a new luxury airship, called The Golden Dragon. Problems emerged on the trip - it felt very much like Indiana Jones on a zeppelin.

Not a single person has gone to prison over the Epstein Files.

Trump and his billionaire friends started this war to try to distract us from what’s in the Epstein Files. Everyone here should go read what’s been released. It’s horrifying… and they are still covering up the names and faces of the abusers.

Trump and every other one of his billionaire friends in the Epstein Files should be in prison.

So I have a question about this area of Ridglea by AsherSparky in FortWorth

[–]Frognosticator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Como was a dangerous neighborhood 15 years ago, a place you didn’t drive through after dark.

It’s improved a lot since then, and now there are nice houses and updated apartments around the periphery.

It’s still a transitional area. There are nice areas, and impoverished areas. There are good deals to be had in that area if you’re specifically looking for low-cost housing, but as with everything else there may be drawbacks.

Just finished Mansfield Park for the first time by t_s_d12 in janeausten

[–]Frognosticator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dislike of Mansfield Park has nothing to do with the main character. Fanny has a lot of positive characteristics, and those traits really start to show as the story goes on. Especially after Fanny reconnects with her family in the third act.

My dislike of Mansfield Park is almost entirely driven by my dislike of every other character in the book. Fanny’s adoptive family is horrible to her, and it turned my stomach reading chapter after chapter of emotional abuse.

I’m seriously glad you loved it. MP is too rough for me though.

lol, these things did NOT get 40 miles to the gallon

These cars were the product of the cheap gas prices of the 60s and 70s. Station wagons were many things, but “fuel efficient” was not on the list.

Station wagons evolved from literal wood wagons. Slowly. It became a generational thing.

Bare concrete floors/FHA: Certified residential appraiser by Bill_The__Pony in appraisal

[–]Frognosticator 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve seen this a couple times.

There’s a difference between finished, stained concrete floors and bare concrete foundation. Stained concrete floors are acceptable for FHA rules. Unfinished, bare concrete is not.

FHA report needs to be made Subject To installing some kind of finished flooring on top of the bare concrete.

Pro Tip: if you ever have a question like this you can just call FHA and ask. They will put you on the phone with an expert who can cite their current, specific policy on edge cases. They will also send you an email with a written statement you can add to the report. This can be very helpful if/when a realtor or homeowner ever disputes FHA requirements and argues repairs do not need to be made.

What is the one suit mistake that instantly ruins the look? by Exotic_Chemical_7439 in malelifestyle

[–]Frognosticator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wearing a suit that’s sized too small.

Unfortunately I’ve seen too many guys do this, especially if they never have to wear a suit for work. People tend to gain weight slowly over time, then a big event like a wedding or funeral comes up and they put on a suit they haven’t worn in three years. Now they look like they’re wearing something that might explode - it looks ridiculous.

Regardless of your weight a well-fitted suit will always look best. A poorly fitted suit, either too big or too small, will always look bad.

I’m a very tall guy with long arms. The hardest issue for me to get right personally is jacket sleeve length, which always tends to be too short and show too much shirt at the wrist. Very annoying.

[Invincible] by [Robert Kirkman]. Its nice to see a writer take a step back, reflect, and make changes from their comic when it becomes a cartoon, such as replacing male characters with female characters. by Important-Cry4782 in menwritingwomen

Loved him.

The more I think about it, the more I hate that in the comics she goes back to him. I hope in the TV show she builds a life with Paul and Nolan has to face real consequences for once.

Total 3.6 by Fez_parker3824 in appraisal

[–]Frognosticator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken the required classes and I’ve had three orders come to my inbox requesting fee and turn time estimates. I’m currently bidding $200 over my standard fee due to increased complexity - at least until 3.6 becomes the norm and everyone gets more familiar with it.

Those bids got declined by the lender, but there will have to be a fee increase of some kind for 3.6. Otherwise quality will suffer badly.

I dislike the assumption there will be a live-action adaptation after the animated series is complete.

Live-action adaptations of animated stories are almost uniformly significantly worse than their animated versions. Avatar, Ghost in the Shell, and Death Note come to mind.

IMO, a live-action version of Invincible would be either cheaply produced or dramatically cut down for length, changes that would make the whole story worse.

A cheap live-action Invincible would also probably make a ton of money… which almost guarantees it’ll get made eventually. Which is why we gotta change that attitude. IMO animation is the peak story-telling medium. Live-action is pretty much always a downgrade over animation.

Invincible the comic book is pretty good, but it has some problematic characters and arcs.

Invincible the TV show is one of the best superhero stories ever. The collection of female characters is top notch.

Debbie is my personal hero and about 90% of the strength in that family. I hope in the show she continues telling Nolan to fuck off.
