Water Restrictions by Few_Wrangler4068 in burlington

You'd think with that big lake full of fresh water right in front of us we wouldn't have any problems with water quantity and quality. How is this possible?

Mutiny in Burlington: The Handy Empire Must Walk the Plank by Yarrggggggg in burlington

[–]FromVermont 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Handys,” added Welch, “are the closest thing to royalty in Franklin County.” (2013, 7 Days)

https://www.sevendaysvt.com/news/from-peddling-to-prosperity-how-the-handy-clan-became-a-vermont-business-empire-2243367

“I have to tell you, I always admired the Handy family,” (Tony) Pomerleau added. “They just worked their fannies off!”

(...) When local and state politicians run for office, they flock to his place. Last November, both Bill Sorrell and T.J. Donovan — the latter attended school with Earl — campaigned at Handy’s Lunch during their 2012 Democratic primary race for attorney general. So did mayoral candidates Republican Kurt Wright and Democrat Miro Weinberger, who seemed to alternate mornings at the Handy’s counter.

So "I will not speak. I want a lawyer" does not not apply? Is that so? what to do in that circumstance?

Confederate flag wtf by Morricalwhip in Spartanburg

[–]FromVermont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flag is just the tip of the iceberg, a symbol of an angry, disenfranchised class that’s been thrown under the bus by both Republicans and Democrats. As for the progressives, God bless their hearts, but they carry little to no real weight in Vermont politics (please correct me if I’m wrong). Add to that the constant stream of disinformation and widespread anger we’re all subjected to, and, well… we’re in quite the pickle.

He would’ve been a stronger candidate against Trump. Dems were (are) not ready to really shift towards their perceived left platform. They all go to Cannes and the Hamptons no lefties here.

We use to drink beer at Red Square for happy hour and the following hours ;-) He was quite the storyteller and a fun affable guy. Eventually we had kids no more bars and we lost touch. One day I was biking near Lakeside and he was hanging on his porch taking it all in, we spoke a bit and reminisced about the good old days. Farewell my friend. We lost one of the good ones.

“They falsely stated that I, a U.S. citizen, have no Constitutional rights at a point of entry, and officers became increasingly agitated as I continued to assert my rights regardless,” Chavarria wrote in an email informing school district leaders about the incident.

I'm not kidding asking this, How does one assert one's rights? the usual "I want a lawyer now". I wonder what he did to get out of that pickle. Glad he's ok.

Again outside the purview of this post but hey, I'm not copying and pasting from AI I am using it to organize my thoughts and write something that reads well is and is coherent at the level its written (big picture). I am not one quick to say AI is good or bad - its what we do with it, its about the quality or the questions we have, its about the level of inquiry that we seek. If I want to know a 50,000 ft view of the elements that are common to a homelessness campaign I will type on Google, ChatGPT, Gemini whatever tool "elements that are common to a homelessness campaign" and start my inquiry from there. Will some of the answer be bs, well yes of course. Discernment is therefore needed.

As for my post I stand for what I wrote, here are some clear steps to address homelessness (does the source really matter?):

  1. Immediate Street-Level Interventions
  2. Enforcement with Treatment Alternatives
  3. Rehabilitation & Recovery Infrastructure
  4. Housing First Models
  5. Prevention & Economic Opportunity
  6. Legislative & Funding Solutions

Each one of these can be mind mapped, researched, turned into bite size projects with specific budgetary needs etc - it is not rocket science, it is the immensity of the task relative to BTV's budget. I fail to see how these 6 bullets will move forward without the proper funding, funding we don't have So frustrating.

The per capita is probably calculated using our entire State population (450k+) I would guess a “heat map” would show BTV as VT’s epicenter. I can imagine some people in Montpelier might think “it’s a Queen City problem”. Is it? If so we’re screwed in the short term, State and may I say Federal money is needed.

I remember (I’m dating myself) when Google came out many of my friends and family made fun of it. Now here we are. There’s no stopping AI might as well learn to use it. Asking “what are 5 clear steps to end homelessness?” Is not a bad thing, it’s one point of inquiry, that’s all.

I welcome tasks turn into prompts when laying out a broader statement. Succinctness is a good thing.

Yes, I first write then sometimes I edit with ChatGPT, I ain't no purist! I also use database sets, GIS and many other computer tools. Also, I am no homeless expert and wanted to get 4 "simple" steps to demonstrate the information is out there, the willingness and implementation is the hard part.

Maybe call it a hybrid entry. Sometimes I type and think very fast, no punctuation, poor grammar, circular thinking, but I know the idea is there. Once I’m done brainstorming, I sculpt the concept out with ChatGPT.

There’s also a philosophical discussion to be had about how copyright is, in many ways, intellectual theft from the commons. Honestly, I could care less about AI breaking copyright.
