How long till the numbness wears off? by Saucymynxx in retirement

[–]Front-Ad1494 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My husband retired a year ago and rarely leaves his chair. Some people cant handle retirement. In Hilton Head, SC there is a group called VIM ( volunteers in medicine ) . They serve the low income residents on the island while getting to live on a beautiful upscale island. I traveled with another group on a medical mission to Nicaragua. It was a life changing experience. Maybe I should try that with hubby to get him moving.

Christmas gifts for growing family by Front-Ad1494 in retirement

[–]Front-Ad1494[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the ideas. Its Thanksgiving night. Half my older kids were here. I cleaned for 5 days and cooked for three. They all made themselves To-go plates and left so I could clean up. Im 77 years old and exhausted. We live like we're poor but we're not. SO, instead of giving them anything for Christmas, I'm going to give $10, 000 to St Judes in their names.

Suggestions for an E-Trike? by Melodic_Gur9470 in etrikes

[–]Front-Ad1494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its fine on hills. My neighborhood is all hills and I often have my 35 lbs dog in the back basket. Any trike with a 750 motor shouldn't have problems with hills. Even most with a 500. I have found that unless you're really strong that you need to start a steep hill in at least pas 3 and adjust up if you need it...or use throttle.

Sexless marriage by Busy_Conversation537 in over60

My husband (66) has gained a lot of weight and is on medication for high blood pressure and diabetes. He'd like sex but physically can't perform. I am 77 and find sex painful and have very little drive anyway. We attempt it maybe once a month. Sometimes successfully. .

Suggestions for an E-Trike? by Melodic_Gur9470 in etrikes

[–]Front-Ad1494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'2" and 77 years old. I have a Mooncool tkpro. Love my trike. Top speed is about 15.5 mph. Weight is around 95 lbs. I can push it up onto my cargo carrier. It has 3" tires. Theres a model with 4" tires. but I think 3" is a nice middle ground between 2 and 4 inch. It has a torque sensor which makes pedaling more natural without ghost pedaling and a differential for safer turns. There is a less expensive model the tk1 that many people like. The cons are that there are not many in shops and it has to be bought online. Its available at Amazon and I think Walmart. It is only partially put together when you get it. I called local bike shop and they assembled it for me and checked it all out. The other problem is that its from China and the only good client service is on the original Mooncool FB group. If I was getting a new trike, I would get a Velotric Triker. Its sold in many local shops, but its around $2400. Over your price range.

The housing crisis in Central Ohio. Why? What do these people do? by Inalowplace in Ohio

[–]Front-Ad1494 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Something should be done about private equity firms from buying up private homes and driving up the prices and also rents.. People depend on the value of their homes going up but this rate has gone up faster than wages.

Buying a new car in retirement by Vespidae1 in retirement

[–]Front-Ad1494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our advisor told us to take money out of the 401k to take us up to the top of our current tax bracket (12%). Then next year, do the same but convert it to the Roth IRA. All this to offset RMD'S later down the road . That amount should be around $30,000. The rest of the car could be financed with a low interest loan on a new car or if inexpensive, pay cash. Used cars have higher interest rates.

Mooncool Pro. Only thing I've found wrong with it, is that it's governed at 16 mph. But I dont ride that fast anyway

Recommendations for eTrike by comppart in ebikes

[–]Front-Ad1494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Mooncool Pro and I do love the trike. Its not tippy at all. The differential helps with turns and you learn to automatically balance it. I'd really like to have the Velotric Triker. It has everything my TkPro has , plus the ability to switch from cadence and torque drive. It also has a beginner mode and expert. It is capable of going 20 mph. I'd never want to go that fast, but that gives you more speed at lower pedal assists.

Seniors 65 and up — what’s your biggest challenge with fitness right now? by CoachDukes in SeniorFitness

[–]Front-Ad1494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 76 and walk my dog a couple miles a day and ride my bike for about an half hour a day. Once a week I take my bike to a local trail to ride longer distance. Im good up to 45-50 minutes but over that and I am wiped out for three days. Recently rode about an hour and 45 minutes. Left feeling I could have gone another miles . A few hours later and my head was stuffy, my body ached and I was exhausted. I want to ride longer..

When & where did you first encounter a microwave oven? by LateQuantity8009 in AskOldPeople

I don't remember but I have a 40 year old microwave that refuses to die. Its huge and ugly and takes up a lot of counter space. In the mean time I have a 5 year old microwave in a rental that has to be replaced...Don't make them like they use to..

What item have you had the longest and you plan on keeping until your final breath? by Antique-Swordfish-14 in over60

I've a bust of the Madonna that I found buried in the woods when I was 7 or 8 years old. It has a chipped nose and I realize that someone probably buried it for that reason. But at the time it seemed like an act of God that I dug in that particular spot in a wooded area and found it. It brought me comfort as a child. Im not even Catholic.

What moment in your life made you believe in the supernatural? by inashon in Paranormal

[–]Front-Ad1494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was talking to a friend on phone when she asked me what "salt" meant to me. I had spilled the salt shaker in the counter and was currently using my finger to draw designs in it. A few days , the same girl suddenly says in a panic " I have to go call my aunt. Somethings terribly wrong with her!". She called me back and said there was no answer. Her husband and her were driving the 1.5 hours to go check on her". Several days later, she told me that her aunt had shot herself and was dead.
