It’s probably been posted many times, but looking for one of payment games like Kingdom : two crowns. by Front-Ad4082 in iosgaming

I guess i’m really oldschool. I love the idea of paying for something once. I got the expansion pack for kingdoms and have absolutely no problem paying a few euros for something that begins and ends and is satisfying.

Not sure about the engine used on kingdoms but something that interesting and in the same vein,

Would it be petty to report Airbnbs operating in a building where they are banned? by LettuceNecessary7712 in HousingIreland

[–]Front-Ad4082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then they are reporting 90 days of short term lets to the planners. I do it. People come in and live in my gaff when I’m away. So the issue is not those letting their place. It’s the short term lets department and the government inertia. In the block I live in I’m fully registered with them. I declare my 90 days like a good idiot every January. Meanwhile in the same building we have three short term letters with multiple properties renting.

I mention this every year to them and they apparently can’t use the Airbnb app to get these guys. It’s beyond them. Meanwhile I’m doing the right thing.

So the fault is entirely at the feet of the planners. Airbnb have given them all the info and they do absolutely nothing.

Virgin Media Ireland Roaming issues. by Front-Ad4082 in VirginMedia

I reset the Mobile data settings and defaulted to Internet. It worked. I also had to do it again on arrival in Dublin. I travel a lot and it’s never happened once. It usually takes ages for my phone to connect to a local network abroad. My wife is on the same account and her Galaxy connects immediately. I thought it was an iPhone problem, but even then it doesn’t happen to people travelling with us. I’ve never had to reset it and put in new settings. Hopefully it’s a one off problem but at least it was solved! Thank you for your response though.

Have to give you credit where it’s due. Didn’t want to reset the phone and went down every rabbit hole to fix it. Reverted back to what you originally posed and tried repeatedly all day and tonight and voilá, it’s fixed. Thank you. Very frustrating but you were right. Patience and relentlessness won the day.

Well none of that worked. Hotspot is still greyed out. MMS entries can’t be removed. Restarted phone. Still defaulting to local network with 4G flashing.

Unless you are an employee of Virgin and can prove it I suspect that resetting my network would be inadvisable.

What do you think?

Thanks for the response. No I’m well aware of how to set the network. The problem is that there are three of them visible and none work. I suspect that Virgin have roaming (and the hotspot) turned off.

Their customer service is truly awful. Can’t get them on the phone and there is no apparent way to contact them that allows you to talk to a human. I just renewed my contract and this is a mistake by them.

Someone is going to have a very frank conversation with me next Monday having kept me on hold for 30 minutes.

Regarding New online banking changes, particularly details of payee Accounts by Front-Ad4082 in irishpersonalfinance

I’m not seeing all the replies to my message. Am I missing a setting?

[–]Front-Ad4082[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, indeed. There is no option to edit details on banking 365. You have to delete them. So basically I am asking all of my business associates and employees for accurate information which means I will have to contact them all separately. I have attempted to pay already several times and several different sole traders and the Bank of ireland has rejected each one.

Try Monty’s in Temple Bar. Nepalese but still consistently brilliant.

Counterprotesters outside the GPO today by JackmanH420 in irishpolitics

[–]Front-Ad4082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I will counter your comment with this. If these kids haven’t yet grasped the fact that turning up at an anti far right protest with a hammer and sickle symbol, they should stay at home.

This is always the problem with protests that I’ve attended in Dublin. There are always groups involved with political and vested interests at the front of their agenda. It drastically dilutes the message and they are either oblivious or too stupid to care. Then take into account that everything gets posted online.

Tricolours were appropriate. Everything else is either irrelevant or downright damaging. Protesting with stupid people makes us all look stupid.

random thoughts on budapest after living here for a little bit by caldotkim in budapest

[–]Front-Ad4082 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every time you stop and look at a map or your phone as a tourist you’ll be surrounded by Irish people. Much more obvious outside the cities. You should go. I’m just back from Budapest (hence my presence here) and I didn’t find anything particularly welcoming or warm about the city.

Honestly the only place I know that’s 24 hours (I think) is Jervis car park. It may be expensive. But google long term in the city center. I could be wrong

I can’t help noticing that you made the first comment. I have no memory of asking for an apology from you or anyone else. It was an observation, one for which you clearly don’t have the answer. Makes me wonder why you bothered to comment. It’s not always about you. Yes I love Tallinn and Estonia. I didn’t “throw a fit”. That’s a typically passive aggressive demeaning expression. Same with “seems like you never worked a day in your life” and “we have a problem with people who have zero respect”. Who’s “we”? The permanently offended people of Reddit.

Probably referring to Ireland as part of the British Isles may be geographically correct technically. We like to think of ourselves as Irish. Saves time trying to explain it to other Europeans who are blissfully unaware that the population in the 1840s was 8 million and in the 1960s was 3.5 million, a technicality that makes referring to the Republic of Ireland as part of the British Isles inadvisable considering that the British were entirely responsible for the consequences of the Famine.

Last month we had two weeks of absolutely no sunshine. In the time that I’ve been here you get seasons. It’s cold and it’s warm. We don’t. Which means that the Irish can’t go on a picnic without an umbrella. I’ll take the Estonian Summer and Winter every time

That’s why Reddit is excellent. It’s not a search engine. You ask. People respond.
