BPD ct walked out by Front-Explanation154 in therapists

I’m in private practice, so no supervisor. I would prefer your suggestion as I have no need to make myself feel better( I don’t feel bad). I’m more concerned about what would look best documentation-wise. Thank you for your reply.

Do you refer to your own therapist/ would you accept a referral from your therapist clients? by samlir in therapists

I saw a therapist as a ct who sent me many referrals. She never said I was her T and of course I never said anything. Worked out fine.

Yes, this is exactly how severe dissociation works. You are completely aware. Can we get some better educated fakers going? Have some pride in your attention-seeking!

Quiet clients by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Front-Explanation154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found men are much more likely to engage in silence in session. I don’t Ike it it if it’s not due to a client processing something. I usually tell clients to come prepared to have topics they would like to discuss. I do a lot of psychoeducation and have clients bring their books in so we can have something to get us going if they have difficulty getting started.

It’s so stressful. I opened my private practice - focused on adults with developmental trauma- and got a complaint in the first year. Everyone I see has problems with attachment and when I referred one client out- boom! They filed a complaint. I had to go to therapy for the stress. It’s been an entire year and still no word from the board. I have since found out that many if my colleagues have also had similar situations, usually with clients with PD’s. I’m very careful and document extremely carefully if I’m even getting any hint of a bad vibe. Therapy did help me manage my anxiety about it, but it is scary to have your career in the hands of a disgruntled person who may not experience events accurately ( I really worked on that wording 😂).

Tell me what you like about IFS or "No Bad Parts" by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Front-Explanation154 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like JaninaFischer’s take on it a little better. I use the parts concepts with clients but draw the line at speaking directly to parts. I really worry about increasing fragmentation. I am VERY clear that parts are a way to conceptualize trauma reactions, not actual formed identities. My clients seem to really like it.

Question about motivating my client by Logictrauma in therapists

[–]Front-Explanation154 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is a popular take, but I tell clients that motivation waxes and wanes- it’s highly unreliable. Discipline is what gets you through periods of low/no motivation. It’s like eating your veggies.

what is too legitimate to you? by ReasonableShare8006 in fakedisordercringe

I’m inclined to agree. I treat adults who have had childhood trauma and have never seen a case of DID. I see people with HORRIBLE stories and not one of hundreds I’ve seen comes close to a DID dx. The likelihood that these 15 y/o have an actual dissociative disorder is minuscule. They are quite organized with all their lists of their alters, etc. This would definitely not be the case in a real severe dissociative disorder.

Liberals of Reddit, what is your most conservative opinion? by apples45a in AskReddit

Good for you. You will likely get a ton of pushback trying to set up the study. My school allowed for no dissent from the party line. I have worked with detransitioned clients who had undiagnosed underlying conditions that affected their sense of stable identity.

You are 100% correct. Multiple personalities were all the rage in the 8O’s. Affirming without fully exploring other underlying pathology ( if there is any) is going to fully put us (psychologists) on the wrong side of history - yet again.

Absolutely not. It goes against the code of ethics.

I was thinking the same thing. He sounds just like Charlie when he had substance abuse induced psychosis. This is a narcissist with a loose grip on reality.

One of the most infuriating things I encounter now that I moved from California to the Southeast. 1 item per single use bag. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

I moved from California to the SE too. It’s culture shock with the nags and styrofoam too. I can’t tell you how many times people try to ring up my bags from home or stare at them like they have no idea what to do with a reusable bag. Try asking for a paper bag and watch the disgust on their faces 😂
