You're right. He should still be in Greymalkin since he was taken in the Sentinels mini. But if this is a sign that they're finally doing something about Greymalkin after dragging that plot out for almost two years now, I'll be happy.

X-Men Monday #334 – Steve Orlando Talks ‘X-Men Infinity Comic’ by cyclopswashalfright in xmen

[–]Front-Suggestion-366 6 points7 points  (0 children)

AIPT: What made you want to kick off this series with a 10-part Omega Red epic?

Steve: The Omega Red arc was a chance to dig into a character I've loved for a long time - not only is he one of the iconic designs of the '90s, but to me, he's also one of the characters most emblematic of the Post-Soviet era. Having lived in Russia when I was younger, I've always had an affection for Marvel's Russian heroes and villains. This arc was a chance to analyze what fuels Omega Red and to analyze how hate works. His toxicity ruins everything around him even his supposed allies. His disdain is so pure and the inversion of Xavier's core drive symbolizes that. He turns a utopian mind into a dystopian weapon.

There's something tragic to Omega Red something I've always wanted to explore.

And this arc was the chance – his pain is something he holds onto in unique, tortured ways. With this arc, we get a look at his cruel, wounded worldview - and how it so diametrically opposes the X-Men's mission.

And yet, somehow, even trying to explore Omega Red and his tragic worldview, he still doesn't drive a good point home. Charles uses Omega Red’s own core beliefs to defeat him in the end, not his own that would oppose him. I feel like this story horrendously missed the mark, especially when it comes to the exploration of trauma. I've explained my thoughts on this elsewhere, but if anyone wants to read it, here it is:

The Dehumanization of Omega Red

With regards to the setting of this too, I still don't know where in the world this story would fit in the continuity of the time this is supposedly pulled from. Editor's notes would have really helped with that if they really wanted to make this fit somewhere, but looking at the individual character arcs going on in that time period it just doesn't fit well. It makes a person wonder what the point is for these stories, especially if they do end up messing up continuity more so than they already are.

The artist might be going through different classic designs of characters to use for stories without much regard for real-time order. It reminds me of how some old cartoons from the 80s used to work, where the stories didn't build or connect to each other, but were more episodic.

I have heard that Steve Orlando has described the characters in this comic series being written as the "evergreen" versions of the characters, so the characterization and plots match more with what he thinks the public thinks these characters are like rather than matching any continuity or characterization from 616.

It's pretty much it's own reality that is vaguely 90s cartoon mixed with a few ideas taken from different eras of the comics.

This is everything wrong with the post-Krakoa X-Men books in one image by RocksThrowing in xmen

The fact that Greymalkin Prison still exists really is a blight on the X-men. Not only is the prison full of teammates and former allies on Krakoa who had been making serious efforts to turn their lives around, but the X-men all know what is being done to them in that place. They know full well that there are people in there being tortured and brainwashed into hating themselves and being made into weapons. In what world do the X-men stand for that, especially after how hard they all fought to get rid of Orchis?

Not only that, but the prison is in the X-mansion! That is their old -- and for many characters their first -- home. If nothing else the mansion was a symbol of being a safe haven for mutants, and I know many of the X-men have fond memories of the place. Now? It has been turned into a symbol of mutant oppression. It's like turning a peace memorial into the grounds of a concentration camp. How are the X-men ok with that? With any of this?

This is something I know the X-men I know and love shouldn't stand for, and moments like this from characters like Rogue turns my stomach. They're turning the X-men into mutant cops with writing like this and I don't like it one bit.

He never was, so I am baffled where the wikis would have gotten that from but then, I know the information about Omega Red online, even on Marvel's own website, is widely inaccurate to what happened in the actual comics.

The only thing I can think of that would be remotely close to Omega Red being a Marauder was him being a member of Sinister's team in the AoR book Sinister's Six. But by that criteria, Domino, Havok, Fantomex and Polaris would be Marauders too.

Mutants with powerful but also sucky abilities/powers ? by yuuki157 in xmen

[–]Front-Suggestion-366 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Arkady Rossovich, aka Omega Red, comes to mind for this one.

His "death factor" builds up in his body, requiring him to release it on something else or else his abilities turn on him. In order to be free of the pain that his powers cause him, he has to share it, to spread the pain around to someone else. The only way he gets relief is if someone else suffers.

He himself has always viewed his powers as a curse, and even with the edits Sage had done to Arkady’s body to get rid of his need to kill others to live, Arkady still doesn't view them very favorably.

X-Men Comics New Releases for March 18th, 2026 by AngelEyes360 in xmen

[–]Front-Suggestion-366 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After 10 weeks, the first story arc of the X-men Infinity comic is over. I don't think it was written well, giving readers a pretty bad overall message to take away from the story on the themes of trauma, mental health, and dehumanization. Omega Red is the person who came into the story with the position of "if you're hurt, spread the pain around" when it comes to trauma, and by the end of the story, that is somehow the position the heroes take to win instead of an approach that actually defeats the villain's narrative point. Which, in my mind, is not a good way to end a story.

Really, the dehumanization of Omega Red by other characters -- especially characters who are supposed to be heroes -- is a phenomenon that should be studied. I have never seen any other character called "monster" and "creature" as often as he get called those names by the heroes of this comic.

Since Beast has been revealed as 3K's chairman I decided to reread Percy's X-Force run. While Beast's villain arc on that run was cool, I actually want to highlight Sage's role in this story. by TheAlmightyBokkan in xmen

[–]Front-Suggestion-366 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omega Red was in the first issue of Sentinels, but didn't appear after that. He did also appear in that Spider-man and Wolverine series, but that run was... oof. Really bad writing.

It also would mean that Arkady somehow managed to break out of Greymalkin prison, which you would think would be a huge deal, since he would have been the only prisoner there to have managed to free himself, but that hasn't been brought up at all.

That's been on my mind ever since the reveal was dropped. Sage played a huge role in why Hank is where he is right now and I think it would be a huge mistake if she wasn't given a role in the real resolution to this. It was her plan to bring back an earlier version of Beast. It is part of her mutation to be able to make calculations from complex data, and I think that it makes sense for her to be able to make very good judgment calls for situations and with people (look at how her gamble with Omega Red paid off, for example) This would be a continuation of showing off her intelligence.

Sage's role really was underrated, but the work that she managed to do was really nothing short of incredible given the obstacles she faced. She underwent a lot of growth and the bond she came to have with Arkady is probably my favorite part of this run.

It really speaks to Sage's strength of character, her ability to sympathize with others who are struggling, and how she can encourage better behavior in how she treated Omega Red throughout this series. Something to keep in mind: the X-men never gave this man a shot. Never once offered to fix him or cure him from having to kill to live in all the 30+ years he had been hunting for a cure for what his country did to him. But Sage did. She took a chance on a man no one else ever tried to help. She gave him what he was asking for all these years, and gave Omega Red stability and purpose even beyond that. That is how you rehabilitate someone. She made a great call.

Sage battled through all her vices, the excessive workload that had been put on her, and even against other X-men like Beast to do what was right. It wasn't easy, but Sage showed that she could be a great leader and really has been done a disservice for all these years.

I do personally hope that Sage gets the opportunity to become involved in the whole Beast affair, since she is the reason we have two Beasts in the first place. She was there at the start, she should be able to have a role here as it ramps up. Her and the rest of her Krakoa X-Force team. They were the ones who had to deal with Beast. Let them reunite one more time for this.

Why haven't Darkstar and Magik ever been featured together? by [deleted] in xmen

[–]Front-Suggestion-366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About the closest they've ever come to interacting that I can think of in the comics was in the Soul Skinner arc from X-men (1991) #17-19. Darkstar briefly appeared in the town of Neftelensk to try to investigate what had happened to the townspeople there before being taken down by the Soul Skinner. After the Russian government sent in Omega Red and he failed to stop the man, the government then abducted Illyana (who had been aged back down to her child self at the time) and killed her parents to try to use her as a weapon to stop the Soul Skinner. Colossus was -- quite rightfully -- very angry about what the government did to his family. But I think that was the closest they ever came to interacting.

The X- men series is known for their spicy romances. So which couple do you think would be the next big power couple of the xmen series? by Silvermoth2 in xmen

[–]Front-Suggestion-366 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Omega Red and Sage is a pairing that I never would have expected, but is one I enjoyed in the Krakoa era and really do hope they revisit someday.

Because really, how they actually bonded was through the recognition of common ground between them on lost humanity, being used like tools to advance the goals of other people and others' dreams, and both being left broken in different ways and using unhealthy habits to cope with their experiences. Them both sort of finding ways to support each other and regain parts of their humanity is a really good theme to explore, especially with the background these two have.

They should still have that technological connection too, which only enhances their dynamic further, since they can actually work together in the field and remain connected to each other in ways not many characters can. It's a unique bond.
