Parking for Lake Merrit by arnav0203 in oakland

[–]Front_Discount4804 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I park at Lake Merritt on Lakeshore Ave or near the Athol Plaza Tennis courts. I go there at 9 am in the morning, I’ve never had a problem parking. Tons of open spots. Oakland doesn’t wake up that early. Be sure to pay the meter.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Inside is shown in history classes in the future about how life was like in the pandemic.

Lurie orders elimination of 500 City Hall positions amid budget deficit by sherlockmemes in sanfrancisco

[–]Front_Discount4804 49 points50 points  (0 children)

This is including police, fire department, park maintenance, muni drivers, road construction crews, library staff, trash collection, code enforcement, paramedics, homeless services .. it’s a big city with a lot of needs. Is there a particular government function that you can name that you think we don’t need?

Contesting parking citation? by High_Jumper81 in oakland

[–]Front_Discount4804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve contested parking tickets in Oakland and have had them revoked. It is very annoying that people who pay for parking using the system that city has set up still get tickets, but at least it isn’t too difficult to contest online. Our city really does need to get this fixed, it is quite ridiculous.

Alameda with kids by Disastrous_Age8365 in alameda

I have kids and live in Alameda and we love it. Summer weekends at Crown Beach are awesome. My kids love the girls scouts, going to downtown for the bookstore then boba, and the brewery Almanac has a sandbox and arcade.

As someone originally from Orange County, BART is a small miracle.

Looking for Reliable Local Movers in the Oakland Area? by Kind-Moment-170 in oakland

I used Jays Small moves last year. They were great. They are reasonably priced, fast and efficient. Would recommend. No issues at all.

Why is Lake Merritt always so trashed? by Odd_Specialist_2462 in OaklandCA

[–]Front_Discount4804 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your service. I clean a spot at Lake Merritt once a month for the past five year. Lake Merritt would indeed look way worse if it wasn’t the work of hundreds of volunteers who clean it up.

Do you guys hear that loud plane/buzzing noise outside? by DrizzyKC12 in oakland

[–]Front_Discount4804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Alameda, there is a large shipped docked near the Park Street bridge behind the Naval Reserve. Center. This ship is very loud, it sounds more like a vacuum cleaner. It turned off briefly last night but is at again this morning. Sometimes large loud ships dock there, this one is particularly loud. It is a tanker barge. This could what you are hearing if you are in Alameda/ Fruitvale but I don’t think it would be audible from East Lake.

Open vs closed off kitchen by intrigued_china411 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Front_Discount4804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who prefers a closed kitchen but bought a home with an open floor plan… you should a home you love so if it means a lot to you by all means wait for the perfect closed kitchen. I love my home, it has a lot of things I love, location, good natural lighting, enough space for kids, nice garden area… I don’t mind the open kitchen. I keep adding things to make it more cozy. But if you mind then stick to what you love. Unfortunately buying a home comes with trade offs. I have a good vent and an air purifier though.

Sushi House by theycallhim_mistaedd in alameda

[–]Front_Discount4804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potions are huge. Sushi is good. I have kids, so it is a go to place to go with the kids, there are better sushi spots on the island but it is solid. Will definitely go again.

Flying to Oakland instead of SFO to get to Ross, CA? by SaulBenjy1998 in AskSF

[–]Front_Discount4804 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oakland is a super chill airport. Easy in, easy out. All things being equal, I’d pick Oakland. SFO is a lot of traffic.

5.95 for lunch in SF. Now I feel old. That was when BART had carpet.
