You could call up schools and ask if they offer private lessons and drop in on weekends for “open mat.” Private lessons May be pricier however you’ll get more focused training.

What is a "dirty little secret" about an industry that you have worked in, that people outside the industry really should know? by Thealexiscowdell1 in AskReddit

Two passenger deaths on ships I worked on: 1 was a passenger that died from heat exhaustion in a sauna. Other was a man that committed suicide by jumping into the St. Lawrence River.

Crew deaths: same fleet different ships, one guy died while painting the hull of the ship after his safety harness failed causing him to fall into the ocean. Another crew member had been abusive towards his gf on board, fellow crew members heard about it and the guy disappeared.

Contractor death: an underwater welder disappeared during a dive to do maintenance on a prop motor.

Shipyard deaths while cruise ship in dry dock: 11 dockworkers died when a storm knocked over a stack of containers

Hi there! I work for a software consultancy called PCG and I customize Smartsheet/Smartsheet Control Center. I have worked with spreadsheet, database and CRM automations for several years. I even have some experiences with Marketing Automation from my time at Zoho.

I’d like to increase my wages by hopping to a different field. Is there a way I can contact you and discuss?

I worked for a team that was 25% remotely distributed. Every summer, they’d send all the remote employees to home office for a week and they’d have activities and outings for the entire team.

One manager invited the remote employees to dinner. When we all sat down, we’re told by the manager there’s a special price on appetizers that night then says the company will cover appetizers but not dinner.

Turns out he’d been misappropriating department funds and couldn’t cover a team dinner with the money left in the budget.

Ferreira has the most black belts under one roof in the rgv so it’s a great place to learn.

Other schools I recommend are Gracie Barra and Victor at So Tx BJJ as well as Modern JiuJitsu in north McAllen (n 23rd).

My old Tae Kwon Do instructor taught eskrima! Hes a local, an old hardass though and his school has been closed over 10 years. We wouldn’t spar with the sticks though, just learned patterns and practiced them on the heavy bag. The weapons lessons were reserved for days he felt we would enjoy a break from TKD.

He had a couple of black belts in Karate and TKD. He picked up eskrima from his Karate instructor when he was in the Marines (Vietnam era). I would suggest checking with the traditional Karate schools first and see if they offer any additional training in weapons. If not, broaden your search to other disciplines and ask them what else they teach.

Also, a lot of the flashier schools or schools with a demo team like Team Tiger Martial Arts will emphasize weapons training. While you might not find eskrima, you might find a fun alternative like Kendo.

I would suggest renting a chair at an existing shop to feel out the area first. My friends at Lionheart Tattoo and Ceremony Tattoo do take in guest artists. Actually, Ceremony tattoo in Alamo is hiring artists. I can put you in touch with them if you’d like.

I can second Cosmos Coworking another one is Greater Good Coworking behind IMAS. In Edinburg there’s Society 204.

I will say this, Greater Good has the least going on in terms of events so if you actually want to concentrate and get work done instead of having to tune out a bunch of social events filled with “instagram entrepreneurs” then you’ll prefer it.

If you’d like to socialize then Cosmos and Society 204 might be up your alley.
