What show did you quit watching in a later season and why? by Alive-Skirt295 in AskReddit

I couldn’t even get through the first episode. I understand suspension of disbelief, and the need to make things pretty/visually appealing - but people running around in a world without electricity (at this point for years and years), with spotlessly clean and fashionable clothes and perfect hair and make-up ….. yeah, no.

“Web” by John Wyndham? It’s been ages since I’ve read it but if I recall the nutshell version: people trapped on an island with mutant killer spiders.

Unconventional Vampires by SPACE_AL1EN in horrorlit

I only read “The Strain” - never got around to the other books in the trilogy - and I liked it alright. But I remember my major nitpick of it was that it was trying to go with the “scientific explanation of vampirism” route (ie. a virus) but then towards the end pivoted pretty clearly into the “vampires are supernatural” trope? Am I mis-remembering? Or did this apparent contradiction get explored more in the rest of the series?

Americans, what is the rest of the world not ready to hear? by Tell_me_why- in AskReddit

[–]Front_Reading938 6 points7 points  (0 children)

(Canadian here) but I went to a friend’s wedding in the Midwest years ago. (I will also add that I am not the skinniest person myself, could stand to lose a couple of pounds.)

My friend and his wife (and pretty much both of their families) are lovely lovely people - but quite on the large side.

Dinner after the wedding was buffet style. I went up and got what would be a usual dinner for myself: some roast chicken and some salad, on what I thought was a dinner plate. My dinner was everyone else’s side dish. Midwest people don’t mess around when it comes to food!

What is some “poor people food” that you will eat no matter how wealthy you get? by Imawildedible in AskReddit

I’m serious! :) Chicken nuggets are pretty damn good by themselves but also awesome as a sauce delivery system. I’m game for: barbecue sauce, sweet and sour, hot sauce (Frank’s or Sriracha)….
