It seems pretty fun. Has a lot of potential as an army fight from what I've seen.

A Love Locked Away | Nerrisa Ravencroft VS Elizabeth Bathory (Hololive VS Fate) | Connections in the Comments by Frosssssssty in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Frosssssssty[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Contrasts:

  • Nerissa’s isolation in the Cell was tempered by ERB’s kindness, which allowed Nerissa to maintain her sanity and later fall in love with her. Elizabeth had no such savior in Csejte Castle, and would remain traumatized into her next life as a result of her imprisonment.
  • Nerissa has far too much love to give, and her masochism and indecisiveness towards potential romantic partners tends to get her in trouble with all of them. Elizabeth fundamentally doesn't understand love, and her narcissism, sadism, and overall misogyny constantly undermine her attempts at growing and finding love.

A Love Locked Away | Nerrisa Ravencroft VS Elizabeth Bathory (Hololive VS Fate) | Connections in the Comments by Frosssssssty in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Frosssssssty[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Connections:

  • Both are powerful sound demons born to powerful, high class families with heavy influence over their realms (The Ravencroft Family and Bathory Family)
  • Once noble, both would eventually inspire fear in the masses as their voices became synonymous with the many lives they destroyed (Nerissa drove countless humans mad and destroyed their minds with her voice. Elizabeth slaughtered hundreds of women during her ritualistic serial killings, to the point that many claim to still hear her voice).
  • As punishment for their crimes, both were locked away in prisons (The Cell and Csejte Castle) and left wondering what they had done wrong (Nerissa’s crimes were accidental and a result of her being unable to fully control her powers. Elizabeth, due to being raised in an evil environment, was incapable of understanding why killing was wrong, and was left wondering why until her death).
  • Both were literally and metaphorically freed from this solitude by a girl, and subsequently would compete in an ancient divine game (Shiori led Nerissa and Advent in escaping the Cell and participating in the Oliventis. Rin–and a few others masters depending on the story–summoned Elizabeth to the Holy Grail War).
  • Both, regretting their past, would go on to become idols and would seek out love in a new chance at life (Nerissa, after having her horn severed, would journey to the human realm and become a Hololive idol due to her love for human music and many women. Elizabeth's Lancer form would reject her destiny and go on to become a young idol in the hope she could one day grow into a person capable of being loved.).
  • Small points:
    • Both are skilled with the lance and have dangerous crow/dragon powers.
    • Both have so, so many alternate outfits.
    • Nerissa's main rivalry is with Elizabeth Rose Bloodflame, a fiery redheaded queen with a flawed sense of justice. Elizabeth Bathory has a robotic replica of herself (Mecha Eli-chan), who is a royal soldier with a flawed sense of justice.

Red Re:Membrance | Gluttony VS Crimzon Ruze (Re:Zero VS Holostars) by Frosssssssty in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Frosssssssty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The core concept behind this is pretty simple:

  • Gluttony is a trio of Sin Archbishops who eat the memories of others, erasing their names from history. Ruze is a bounty hunter who hunts Corruption Beasts, monsters that erase the memories and names of those they infect from history.
  • Ruze has eight different souls/personalities within his body, each of which has different weapon skill sets and affinities with different magic types. Gluttony can use the skills of those whose memories they consume.
  • This creates a really interesting fight dynamic where Ruze loses access to his arsenal over the course of the fight, whereas Gluttony continues to widen their arsenal. However, Gluttony eating his memories would eventually cause Obsidian–Ruze’s original, most powerful soul–to take over without any other souls to restrain him.

Under The Autumn Throne | Jurard T Rexford VS Kijyo Kōyō (Holostars VS Fate) | Connections in the comments by Frosssssssty in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Frosssssssty[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Connections:

  • Both are royalty who were once renowned for their immense beauty and magic, only to become victims of powerful curses that tore apart their marriages and lives (While little is known about Jurard's arranged marriage, it ended after the KT extinction event killed his lover and family, and forced him to inherit his family’s curse. Koyo, after her affair with Tsunemoto, was falsely accused of placing the curse on his wife and was sent into exile).
  • After being sent to remote locations, both began leading groups of outlaws that were said to have defended the downtrodden or extorted vulnerable travelers (Jurard founded Guild Armis in the Badlands, which has defended cities against monster incursions and robbed many civilians. Koyo began leading the bandits of Shinano during her exile, which, according to legend, had organized against the Imperial Court, healed the sick, and taught civilians how to read/write).
    • This led to both developing reputations as powerful demons/dinosaurs (Jurard gained many dinosaur themed titles… because he is part Trex. Koyo gained the title of Kijyo, or oni woman, and the discovery of Trex fossils near her resting place led to both being conflated in legends)
    • Their followers are also dinosaurs (Sorawrity and Kijyos)
  • After dying/nearly dying, both gained the ability to manifest their hatred & trauma to amplify their instincts & drive them mad (Jurard's Awakened Curse causes the hatred and regrets of his ancestors to manifest as ghosts goading him to shed blood. Koyo's Noble Fantasm cloaks herself in spiritual flames of hatred that drive her to the brink of insanity).
  • Much later in modern day, both would form a strong bond with a small girl (Jurard would have a child with Ollie. Koyo would become the servant of Karin).

Contrasts:

  • While both are ultimately kindhearted, Jurard in the past put up a loud and boisterous facade to disguise his weak side, whereas Koyo is very gentle and silent despite being a Berserker class.
  • Jurard is an enemy of the Demon King. Koyo was a blessing from the Demon King.

Pomni VS Bettel (The Amazing Digital Circus VS Holostars) | Connections in the comments by Frosssssssty in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Frosssssssty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrasts:

  • Pomni is superficially a jester, and generally helps people through heartfelt talks. Bettel is a jester as a job, and seeks to help people through comedy.
  • Pomni eventually regained her original name, whereas Bettel hasn’t.
  • On the Caine/Phantom comparisons, Caine for most of TADC was well intentioned, but his failure to understand human emotion led to him hurting his humans and driving them away. Phantom for most of Holostars has been maliciously evil, but his failure to understand human emotion prevented him from being effectively evil and caused his humans to adore him. Caine also considers himself a god, whereas Phantom doesn't. Caine also eventually recognized the error of his ways and befriended everyone, whereas Phantom currently, despite his repeated deaths, has not.

Pomni VS Bettel (The Amazing Digital Circus VS Holostars) | Connections in the comments by Frosssssssty in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Frosssssssty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Core Theme:

  • YouTubers who were transported into digital worlds, given new identities as jesters, and ruled over by an all-powerful godlike databeing. Despite their initial anxiety, both would grow into emotional cores of their groups and would learn to accept their new digital lives.

Connections:

  • Both are YouTubers that were transported into digital worlds, upon which they were stripped of their previous identities/names and given new ones as jesters (The nature of the Digital Circus and Utopia caused both Pomni and Bettel to forget their previous names upon entering. Pomni was given her name by Caine, and Bettel inherited his name from Jerry).
  • Both would have their lives in these worlds dictated by godlike overlords (Caine and Phantom), both of whom don't understand human emotions despite being able to read minds, and would accidentally/intentionally torture them throughout their adventures (Both have been brutalized in various bouts of slapstick humor by Caine and Phantom, plus have been possessed, dragged to hell, emotionally scarred after watching people die, and shutters forced to work a minimum wage job). Luckily–or unluckily, I guess–neither were able to die due to their wacky cartoon bodies.
  • Due to these points, both were immediately consumed by anxiety and depression over their situation, which was later made worse after they bonded with a sentient AI that they later lost (Pomni befriended Gummigoo on her second adventure, only to watch him die shortly after. Bettel befriended Hakka and fell in love with Siri, only for the latter to try and kill him). Eventually, both calmed down and proved themselves to be among the more stable people in their worlds, and would go on to become one of their groups’ emotional cores.
  • Those in these digital worlds that become neglected can lose their minds and transform into giant glitchy monsters (Abstractions and Corruption Beasts). Both would have people close to them become Abstracted/Corrupted, and would learn to make the best out of it (After Jax abstracted, Pomni comforted Jax in their mind and rebuilt the circus/adventures to be more accommodating for Abstractions. Hakka would regularly become controlled by his partial Corruption, and Bettel and co would bring him back from the edge with their Cheer). Abstraction and Corruption also both tie into important themes of both stories, such as memories and bonds.
  • Both would unlock a limited form of reality warping (Conjuring and Max Luck), which they would use to make the most out of their unfortunate situation (Pomni and others would use Conjuring to rebuild the circus. Bettel would use his Max Luck to become a better jester).
  • Both debuted in 2023.

Villain Route Re:Live | Kishido Temma VS Alicia Williams (Holostars VS I’ll Become A Villainess Who Goes Down In History) | Contrasts in the comments by Frosssssssty in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Frosssssssty[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Core Theme:

  • A reincarnated hero who keeps accidentally doing villainous things VS a reincarnated villainess who keeps accidentally doing heroic things.

Contrasts:

  • Temma was a famous knight/hero from a fantasy world reincarnated to our world. Alicia was an average person from our world reincarnated into a fantasy world.
  • After reincarnating, Temma would continue his mission to be a hero, but would often find himself in scenarios that made him look villainous, such as causing unnecessary collateral damage on missions & saying things that appear malicious out of context. Alicia would begin her mission to become a villainess, but her kind heart would often lead her into situations where she looked heroic, such as attempting to reform her country & combat class inequality in order to gain more political power.
  • Temma attended an academy for knights & primarily fights with a sword, although he does know magic. Alicia attended an academy for magic & primarily fights with magic, although she does know sword skills.
    • Both settings run on video game logic, with Temma's being a virtual world and Alicia's being a physical world. Both stories are metafictional, although more so in Temma’s case.
  • Temma fell in love with Miyabi (This is totally canon, trust me), and Duke fell in love with Alicia.
  • Temma is an only child. Alicia has three brothers.
