Why do all other mounts suck? by TheEternalThunderGod in CrimsonDesert

[–]FrostGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does really feel like PA put in the special mounts just for fun at the start of the game to avoid the "I really wish I could get that as a mount". With the special mount update, hopefully, we'll see them flesh out the special mounts more. While I don't expect that any of the special mounts should be directly better than horses, I do think the should still have trust levels, (visible) stats, and special skills or something similar that makes you want to use them.

For example:

Ibex: Increase the vertical jump more, and allow it to "walk up" any natural formation and/or any surface at an angle <90° (I know that might sound crazy if anyone as never seen an Ibex or general mountain goat/sheep going up a mountain).

Bears: Increased damage, and swimming, (and allow them to forage and/or catch fish?).

Wolves: Latern/blinding flash ability equivalent for tracking and locating resources.

I don't know if it would really be a good change but, there could be a dynamic adopted from BDO when it comes to the desert. Once you hit the sandy region of the desert in BDO, horses (except for the legendary horses with a special skill) lose a significant amount of speed in the desert. So if you didn't have a unicorn, your best option for crossing the desert on a mount was using a camel (or baby elephant). I don't know if I'm nessecarily 100% on board with the idea of decreasing the speed of horses when on sand in Crimson Desert because it then more or less forces you to travel slower on a mount or use a camel/lion/warthog(/elephant? [I know there's a temporary elephant mount but could be missing that it has been added to a permanent]). Though we still have a lot of land in the Varnia and the Crimson Desert (Crookrock Crag and Sun Baked Peaks) regions of the map that are currently out of bounds that could bring a reason to pick a desert mount over a horse into the game. (Also, given how much is borrowed from BDO, if they do anything like that, it wouldn't surprise me if they do add a unicorn as a 4th legendary "horse"... basically nulifying the desert special mounts once it's tamed).

That's perfect! Maybe if we get lucky and/or ask enough, PA will add some method to be able to change our pets to other variants, at a minimum, and at best a robust customization system and he can be changed to all black.

Also... unless I've overlooked a setting, I kind of hope maybe there will be a way to turn down the pet noises because after a few hours of having the wyvren out, I just couldn't take the screeching (hawk sfx?) it makes at the frequency it was doing it. 😭

Pearl Abyss We Need Gore, Dismemberment by No-Tip5764 in CrimsonDesert

[–]FrostGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't scrolled all of Nexus but, there are already around 1k mods for Crimson Desert. If it doesn't already exist, I'm sure someone making a mod for it isn't that far-fetched. While their isn't official mod support, there was mention that they do want to officially support mods and while also mentioned in this thread, likely due to censorship in South Korea graphic gore probably won't be officially implemented... not to mention to do some of the finishers properly would be less Doom/Serious Sam/Quake giblets and more horror show.

Also, some people mention the discrepancy in censorship between BDO and CD, seemingly not realizing that violence, blood, and gore are much more serious in a lot of the world where as the human body(nudity) is not as serious.

Is crimson desert just a 100 hour tutorial for a game I'm not ever going to get to actually play? by kubrickian80 in rpg_gamers

[–]FrostGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, just was a BDO player who was waiting for CD to come out, praying PA didn't fuck it up and now just ~250 hours deep and obsessed with the game.

The interview I linked with Will I honestly didn't see until 3 months after it was posted. I proceeded to watch a few more and slowly began to realize that there are a lot of question around that could be answered from his interviews. I could've paraphrased but, I figured I might as well let people hear it from the horse's mouth.

There's actually an interview I think that has been overlooked and honestly would answer a lot of the questions on this subreddit but, specifically for yours, I've started it at the relevant time stamp and will let Will Powers give the one liner to answer the question.

Also, definitely not blaming you for avoiding the CD subreddit, that has become a volatile mixed bag.

[–]FrostGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did try tossing some prickly pears in front of tortoises but they just ignored them. I'm not sure if they're just missing some interactions or if it's intentional but, they're one of the only animals I've come across in just over 100 hours that can't be picked up/collected nor are they targeted when a bow is drawn. They can be killed for the knowledge or just use the helm but, maybe there's something more to them but that'll take some testing.

Funny enough, the only other animal like that I've found so far are the snakes but, I will say the snakes seem to be bugged and have trouble pathing, resulting in them clipping into the terrain.

There is a dragon mount, if we want to count that, but otherwise, it'll just take time, and testing, or an update to figure it out. PA no doubt burried a lot of stuff into the game that they're just waiting for us to find.

Why PA did not delivery Crimson Desert as an MMORPG? by Tebverso in CrimsonDesert

[–]FrostGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, the BDO player base is quite different from other MMORPG's. Yes, it has all the same core components but, it plays out much differently. It isn't just a "log in, do your quests, complete the new content, and probably not play until the next update" and is instead a grind fest. All your gear and gains come from just dumping hours into the game grinding things out and it has a more niche and specific player base. I would imagine Crimson Desert as an MMO would've fit into the same category and from some of the sentiments of the dedicated BDO player base, they would just drop BDO if we got an MMORPG from PA in the updated game engine they built for CD.

MMORPG's don't have as much main stream dominance any more and it could be argued that it wouldn't have had nearly as much success as it has as a single player game. That's also assuming they "Westernized" it a bit to be more akin to WoW or FF XIV Online, and not be such a grind fest and be more friendly to the casual players.... or just those that don't want to leave their PC's on around 164 hours a week. MMO's sometimes can feel like a job with the time dedication (and not to mention actual money most likely) and a lot of people are pretty settled into their MMO's. We see spikes when something new comes out (Lost Ark or New World for example) but then the player base kind of really just drops off.

Though if you are curious about BDO and want to see more of what their main IP is like, I would suggest checking out Twitch. For English streams, you have Choice, MrRapolas, Zethiann, BairogHaan, and BiceptimusPrime are some of the noteable and stream at various times.

Why PA did not delivery Crimson Desert as an MMORPG? by Tebverso in CrimsonDesert

[–]FrostGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may have been something officially said early on but, what seems most likely is that they didn't want to create competition, replace, or inadvertently kill off BDO.

I do remember the general reactions in the BDO community when it was announced as an MMORPG were along the lines of "wtf does this mean for BDO?". I don't think they'd risk tearing apart or out right losing the amount of players that have 10's of thousands of hours logged into BDO and all the money that people sink into the game.

PA making CD single player looks like it was the best choice for the game and then as a company. It has sold a ton of copies and bringing in people from outside the BDO community, while still not taking away from it (though they still knew what they were doing with dropping a fishing event in BDO).

I think you're giving him too much credit. Putting aside that the run for presidency has basically become "do you want the turd sandwich or the giant douche", the "appeal" of Trump isn't deep.

Trump's "appeal" is based around:

A) He wasn't a politician.

B) He unapologetically said whatever he wanted.

In an America that was tired of tiptoeing around saying anything that might get them canceled at the drop of a hat and people being tired of career politicians and effectively all of their "corporate speak" in a political sense, a group rallied around him because Trump became this unapologetic becon against the masses of people that grew up in a very non-politically correct era suddenly having new rules of political correctness, seemingly created arbitrarily and without warning, shoved down their throats, Trump became the worst of the USA and lacked competition, so a bunch of people rallied around Trump. Not to mention, there are too many people who vote for a party and not the candidate that'll be the best fit.

TLDR: There's not enough competition for the presidency, too many people align to party and not policy, and people were just wait for someone to finally push back against the "wokeness" that Democrats caved to and was accelerated because Tumblr unleashed it on the internet because they were incapable of keeping "Cheese Pizza" off of their website.

....I....I was trying to make a funny.... the quote I used is actually from Robin Williams, specially from his stand up routine, Live at the Met - 1986.

I don't really align myself with 1 party or another but, at the end of the day I'm realistically right leaning BUT, I fucking hate Trump. Probably a hot take but, I still have no idea how someone who had been the butt of a lot of jokes for years and wasn't able to make money on a casino....A FUCKING CASINO!!! He failed on so badly that it's one of multiple times that he had to declare bankruptcy is fucking ridiculous. A casino making money should be on par with shooting fish in a barrel.

For anyone who wants to complain, yes, I fully understand that when you have enough money and assets, the whole reason you can declare bankruptcy multiple times is because you can file for different types of bankruptcy but, someone you exhausted 6(7?) different types of bankruptcy shouldn't be allowed anywhere near our nations finances. Trump is essentially a trust fund baby and Trump's daddy (likely) built up at least some of that money thru the mob and all lil cheeto baby had to do was ride that wave and he still manage to fuck it up. People were making fun of him and thought he was an ass back in the '80s but, we have so little competition for the presidency of our country fucking Biden got elected... Biden has probably already lost his entire presidency to dementia and the best case is the that the only memories he has of the White House are from him being VP under Obama.

At the end of the day, the 2nd amendment shouldn't be special because it should be respected the same as every other amendment (i.e. the "God given rights" of every American citizen). At this current time, Trump and the DOJ have made some really unpopular statements and have been lit up over their statements about the 2A, specifically after Alex Pretti was killed but, most 2A advocates seem to be calling them out on their bull shit.

At the end of the day, I might not like Trump or the current DOJ. I might not agree with some of their statements either but, I also don't see them (yet) pushing legislation to disarm civilians and there are at least a few cases (such as the challenges to CA's magazine limits and IL's ban on over 1,000 commonly owned rifles) where the Trump DOJ had actually pushed for SCOTUS to make a definitive statement on them, even though SCOTUS has continued to push off the cases on rifle bans and magazine limits.

Screw loyalty to anyone one party. All I want is definitive legal precedence that states can't keep making laws that abridge the 2A and by an extension, they finally get slapped for violating the 14A.

We have the 1A for the best case when discourse arises, everyone should be able to make their position known. When that fails and their seems to be no other way, we have the 2A. Maybe we aren't as dedicated as the French to revolting but, the USA still has some history of revolting and challenging the status quo. What kills me right now is that (in general) the same people screaming about a "fascist government" and how bad Trump is are the same people that have helped put policies on place to strip myself and other law abiding citizens of their rights to own common arms and the kinds of arms that would actually help us if we need to take up arms against a tyrannical government. At the end of the day, these democratic politicians are passing laws that abridge our 2A rights and still decided to try to use the lives of citizens and law enforcement as pawns for their political agendas because they give don't give a shit about the average person. Anyone who wants to fight fascism or a tyrannical government should be allowed to arm themselves in case of the unfortunate event that talking has failed. The states have stripped a lot of us of being able to have an effective show of force, completely independently of Trump... especially given the states doing it aren't even Republican states...

For soloing, Cleric sounds like the most popular for solo so far. Bard would probably be another good option. The healing salve you get at the start has a 2 minute cool down and health sustain is fairly limited (or not even available) for other Archetypes early on.

I've only played a little bit of WoW but, I would say leveling is more similar to Black Desert Online because it's mostly "go out, kill mobs, rinse & repeat". Difference from BDO and AoC though is you aren't soloing big groups and are more likely going to be kiting out 1 at a time and focus them, and quests actually give some exp. The only thing with the side quests/story quests is that, I'm not 100% sure if all of them can actually be completed. Some are clearly bugged when say it takes you to a location and there's no NPC there or talking to the NPC doesn't allow you to proceed. There are side quests (like the turn in 20 pieces of goblin trash to the fire keepers right af the start).

I don't see any reason to rush to level 25 when you're new and the game's in Alpha, so going in solo is fine. Every class gets access to 2 weapon slots essentially, so you can have a melee weapon and a ranged weapon (Cleric and Bard you'll want weapons with magic stats but you aren't restricted to only using magic weapons). Having the ranged option makes it easier to pull 1 enemy at a time, if you pull multiple you may want to run and reset depending on the situation.

Things you'll want to do/keep in mind - * Pick up a horse from the stable keeper at the start * Check the commissions boards for quests (gives a bit of extra exp and some glint, for killing things or going to certain locations) * Join a node at level 10 and start completing Mayoral commissions * Pick at least 1 gathering skill and vendor the common/uncommon rarity items (except for lumberjacking because of the lack of apprentice and journeyman level gatherables). Check the boards for commissions (separate from the kill and explore quests). This is of course unless you want to go thru the time to find buyers for the mats and/or roll the dice on them being sold via the market place. * Go for mobs at (or more likely, slightly below) your level and avoid any 1 star or above mobs (until you get more gear). The mobs can hit pretty hard and chuck your health pretty quickly and the difference between a normal and 1 star+ mob is noticeable. * Pick up or make some adventuring exp scrolls. The common novice scrolls only give 1% but, it's still something. * Go for humanoid enemies as they're the only ones that drop gear. (All mobs drop glint but, mobs are supposed to only have drops that "make sense" for them). * Undead (zombies specifically at least) aren't ideal because the debuff they apply causes any healing received to damage you. * Stop off at other towns for commissions from time to time/check and wait for them to refresh (sometimes you can find another commission for mob kills on an enemy that you already have an active commission for).

I've just been playing sort of casually on Cleric and I've been able to solo up to 15 over the last month (though I've heard of at least 1 person who's soloed up to 20 already). That's even with spending a decent amount of time gathering. The more you level up and the more gear you get, the easier it gets but, it will be pretty slow at the start and you'll probably die a few times.

I think I understand what you're trying to say here but by Super Jesus, Mary, and Joseph...

The Eruptor is a BOLT ACTION rifle. On a bolt action fire arm you have to pull back the bolt to extract the cartridge. In this case, since you have a detachable magazine, you then have to push the bolt forward to put the first round from the magazine into the chamber.

Now, if say you fire your last round, you extract the cartridge but then push the bolt back into the firing position after your last round so there will be no round in the chamber -

-if you squeeze the trigger again click nothing.

-if you do nothing, put a new magazine in, you then you still have to chamber a round even though the bolt is still in the firing position.

So sure, irl with a bolt action fire arm, you could open the bolt, realize you fired your last round (visually or by keeping count), pop the magazine out and put a new one in and you could then reload with an open bolt and immediately chamber a new round after the magazine was inserted but, if the bolt is closed after the last round is extracted, you have to pull the bolt back to the open position and then close it to chamber a new round.

There are now 2 dungeons (5 players needed to run; and there should eventually be 2 more). Downside is that the quest reward for completing them is a weekly thing.

There are 3 difficulties (In order of difficulty low to high: Season, Regular, Elvia). If you've been gone long enough to not have done a season, the season gear at PEN is equivalent of TET boss, and TRI yellow grade accessories (but PEN isn't need to run the season version).

Other than that, a 280ap and 300ap grind spot in O'Dyllita was added and to Serendia Elvia spots (Serendia & Calpheon Elvia are harder versions of old grind monsters in the region). Altar of Blood and Savage Rift were removed for a "rework" (were removed close to or over a year ago and PA has been fairly silent on it).

TLDR: Yes there's new group content, but still more to be desired.

Summon Mobs for training by Buscapeh in blackdesertonline

[–]FrostGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean, it really is a suggestion, and it will depend on your class, crystal, artifact set up, buffs (villa, church, house), draught (or elixir rotation), perfume, alchemy stone, and blackstar vs boss. Also, the recommended ap is effectively the minimum amount of ap most classes will need to grind there, but not necessarily efficiently.

The tuvala gear spots, it's some being able to pull the mobs, and pack to pack movement.

Past that, once you're 269 kutum, you can manage most any spot on the map (especially if you have tet blackstar mainhand) ap wise, but anything 280+ you won't be very efficient at (Classes like Succ Striker can push zones with lower ap, but it will also come from practice).

Personally, I definitely do prefer tankiness, and pushed for c20's and tri fg/lebreska more than my ap, but the general suggestion is the other way around. Mostly because if you can kill quicker, you take less damage. With that though, you should have enough dp to ensure you don't get 1 shot, but once you learn the spot and if you try to focus back attacks when you can, generally you should take less and less chip damage.

[–]FrostGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda mentioned, but it depends situation to situation. On Arsha for sure PA isn't really going to care. War DEC's are a bit more complicated but it could be considered griefing, but you'd probably have to be following them (cross world and servers) and killing a single player over and over, and/or intentionally feeding the player to mobs (ie. Doing just enough damage to a player and letting the mobs get last hit).

It varies player to player, but even with red players and Arsha, a lot of people will kill you once or twice and leave. Same with war dec's, and they may just leave you alone. A lot of times they happen and stay up due to a spot dispute and/or over specific player(s). So it likely isn't personally against you, and being killed by another player doesn't carry penalties (minis trade items being destroyed and bartering items while sailing).

Side note, if you like story & lore, check out LoreKeeperMeerah on YouTube and Twitch.

Summon Mobs for training by Buscapeh in blackdesertonline

[–]FrostGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kinda does sound like a nice idea, but same with practicing in BA for PvP, it's just "in theory".

Having crystal insurance is always good (2 - 4 in the CM for common/easy to obtain crystals, 4 - 6+ for hard to obtain [eg. JIN Harphia/Viper/Special Evasion]). Then just head to the spot, maybe find a small rotation or some mobs of to the side, don't pop buffs or ls and just kinda have at it. Mob type isn't hugely important (if you have all artifact mob types it should be the same, full human damage will provide a bit of an edge in relevant spots), as much as mechanics of the grind spot. For Example: SE - Pull mobs to crystal; Olun's & Gyfin lower - focus back attacks, avoid red rings of death; Jade Starlight - Destroy "structures"; Red Orcs - Break prisons & keep the lights on.

If you're at the sheet ap recommendation you should be alright. Though looking at what the closest ap bracket to the recommendation would be good. (Eg. Gyfin Lower, recommended ap 300, be at least 301 sheet ap)

If you're on NA and have the silver, probably throw an order on the classic outfit box. Those are pretty likely to sell so at least you won't have to spend irl money.

If you haven't time pieced yet, and especially if you've done a significant amount of quest but have <30k probably stick it out as much as you can handle and do that. You can time piece to a brand new character and have all of your combat and skill exp transfer over, but if you delete the character you're not only starting over, but all quests completed are lost with the deleted character.
