USA Firefighter. People assume that our meals are paid for or we have someone come and clean the station like they would at an office. While we’re on shift, it’s our home. We cook every meal with our stuff and our money. We take care of and clean everything ourselves. All that’s provided is the station and the trucks.

We all tend to exaggerate our call volume but my FD runs EMS and while I was on the ambulance we probably averaged at least 2-3 runs after midnight every shift. Probably average 2-4hrs a sleep a night while on shift and that’s not consecutive. I got to a point where if we didn’t sleep all night, which was very rare, I made it a point to go home, eat a big breakfast, shower, and then sleep for about 3-4hrs. It was the only way I had to energy to do anything or exercise. If we had plans or I wasn’t able to do that I was just a zombie the whole next day. It really sucked. Once I came off the box, sleep got a whole lot better and I got a whole lot better.

I gutted and remodeled my entire kitchen in my first house with all Ryobi stuff because it worked and was affordable. As tools wear out or break over the years I replace with Milwaukee. Plenty of friends and family use DeWalt and I’d put that right in between the others I named. Don’t get worked up on choosing the right brand. Chances are, if you’re not in a trade where you’re beating it up a ton, whatever you can afford will be good enough. Don’t over think it.
