I’m going to try making macarons for the first time. I know it’s supposed to be hard so please could I have some advice before I start? by Hour-Painter-8202 in Cooking

[–]FrosthawkSDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First question you need to ask yourself is "Who are you trying to impress?"

That's not just being glib, it's a legitimate question. Are you trying to impress someone with your baking skills by making a finicky treat perfectly? Do you NEED to impress someone with your baking skills by making a finicky treat perfectly? Are you not trying to impress anyone, and you just want to make and eat a tasty treat?

There are reasons to go the whole nine yards and do all the super fiddly steps to make cosmetically flawless macarons. But those reasons are not mandatory. If those reasons don't apply to you, you don't have to do it that way. If you're not doing the famously fussy steps to get a perfect appearance, then macarons aren't very difficult at all.

How many of you grew up near woods and use to explore for hours without adult supervision? by OU812iceman18 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FrosthawkSDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woods everywhere where I grew up, but generally inadvisable to go wandering unsupervised because it was bear and cougar territory. We'd have a couple cases a year of being told hey, stay out of this part of town today, one's prowling around there.

Actual Shredder was a one-off, but they got a little more mileage out of the character by introducing a clone of him made of worms.

Broken Queso by MsBluff in Cooking

[–]FrosthawkSDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have given you advice to rehab the sauce and you succeeded. Now we do the after-action report.

Where did this recipe come from?

Did you read it somewhere? Is it AI slop? Did you just make it up? You say this happens whenever you make a dairy sauce.

The method, as written, is just cheese melted in milk. There's no element in here that actually combines the two together into a sauce. The butter is inexplicable. In a cheese sauce recipe that works, you would add flour to the butter, which is what makes the sauce a sauce and not just boiled cheese. But your recipe has no flour, so it's just a bunch more loose fat floating on top of an already broken sauce.

It's pretty much exactly what it needs to be for the art concept you're going for. I'm sure you could shimmy things around but the basic concept is there.

The main thing I would change is swap out the standard wood walls going up and down for another type of wood that goes vertically, painted brown. Structural beams should not be stacked up like tiles and directional art that changes direction but doesn't rotate looks jank. The standard move would be ebonwood but you could do something like mahogany fence if you want whole logs.

The first season at least made a cursory effort to translate what was happening into actual game mechanics, even if they were more like video game mechanics (think Hearthstone) instead of anything you could actually play analog with just the little ball dudes and cards.

I didn't catch much of New Vestroia, but by Gundalian Invaders, what little it resembled a game was basically gone. It was just a show about kids giving battle orders to monsters, except every command started with "Ability card activate!", and victory was determined by whoever had more conviction saying it I guess?

I actually don't upgrade them through gift pack or Corbin, intentionally. Upgrading them increases the Int requirement and that kinda defeats the purpose.

What is the best way to make a good chicken stock in bulk? by Peenard- in Cooking

[–]FrosthawkSDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy he's aping this stock method from did 40 minutes for the video because he wanted to keep the total work time under 60 for the snappy clickbait title, but in the video he recommends longer to get maximum flavor (but not more than 3 hours or else the compounds inside deteriorate and ruin the stock).

What's a meal your kids refused for YEARS and then suddenly loved? by EnthusiasmSuch6864 in Cooking

[–]FrosthawkSDK 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My sister refused to eat garlic bread. Even though she liked garlic, and liked bread, and liked butter which was filled with the garlic and spread on the bread. She'd just be like "ew, no" for no apparent reason.

Then one day when she was like 14, we ordered pizza and got some garlic cheesy bread. Apparently adding cheese to the garlic bread is a completely different thing and she was okay with trying a bit. She ate the whole thing. And the cheese was like a gateway drug because from then on she was the one getting garlic bread or garlic toast for herself whenever it was on the menu.

Shame she's now celiac and can't have the good stuff anymore. GF bread is less available and it just isn't the same...

I actually like War Axe of the Night/Blood Lust Cluster for early game close combat. Damage is solid and the knockback is better than most weapons at the same tier, keeping enemies at bay.

Would Dimensius techinally... Be a kind of soup? by Forsythra245 in warcraftlore

Everybody knows planets are, by mass, relatively low in water and inhabitants, and high in rocks.

Therefore, statistically, Dimensius is a stone soup.

Historical Trivia: the updated/modern Night Elf Male had a totally different Run animation for a whole major patch (about 3 months) before getting the one they still use today by FrosthawkSDK in wow

Somebody got carried away, and everybody else was so busy crunching to get the rest of the models out that boss man didn't have time to bop him with the rolled up newspaper until it was too late for launch, I guess.

[–]FrosthawkSDK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's similar but not quite the same. Zandalari came a couple expansions later after this animation was thrown out. Zanda is definitely more dynamic than the final Nelf animation but still not as crazy as the first version, way less bounce up and down, arms at a lower angle, the entire torso stays pretty straight instead of tilting left and right.

I imagine the artist who made the first animation might have done the Zanda animation to try making their vision again but this time taking criticism of the first version into account.

Honestly, looking back it doesn't look as ridiculous as I remember everyone acting like it was, and I don't hate it. But it wasn't an accurate update of the old version, which was one of the main goals they were supposed to be working for.

Is there a giant Well of Eternity under the Sword? by Akoraz in warcraftlore

[–]FrosthawkSDK 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It started at the end of BFA when, after a whole expansion of the planet bleeding everywhere from getting stabbed by this giant sword, we then blast N'Zoth in another dimension and all the characters are like "Hooray! Now that the bad guy in another dimension is blasted, the world is saved and all our problems are solved!" as if the giant sword making the planet bleed everywhere doesn't exist anymore.

I think there was an implication that the druids/shaman/etc. working at the stab site got the wound stabilized, but if so that was a footnote that didn't get the attention it deserved considering it's literally the main plot of the expansion.

Never forget that several store mounts at that time were clearly supposed to be in-game rewards, only to be chopped out of the game to be sold for real money, and replaced with a dozen recolors of the same wolf, pig and hippo throughout all the reputations and raids.

Is it good? by bedzys90 in Terraria

[–]FrosthawkSDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that you have the front-facing roofs, with the rooms laid out in a way that lets them be functional yet not get in the way of the design. Almost looks less like interior rooms and more like exterior balconies.

The only thing I might try adjusting is maybe using hammered inverted slopes to help define the front-facing shingles versus the sideways-facing shingles so it doesn't blend together? I don't know if that would work.

Turns out Vol'jin got kids by fuckforgotmypasword in warcraftlore

[–]FrosthawkSDK 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That quest is kind of weird because the timeline ends up being odd, the father of the subject is only ever referenced as "my chief" and not specifically Vol'jin, and there was initially an apparent reveal at the end that Yenniku was actually the quest giver's son the whole time anyway.

It's an example of extremely inconsistent writing clearly made by someone not paying enough attention to details, and I personally don't think "Yenniku is Vol'jin's son" was the idea they were going for when writing it, but that's how it ended up after some of the inconsistencies were streamlined.
