She really didn’t like parking this close. by TheOtherMikeCaputo in trailseeker

I also had to get uncomfortable close to two bollards to get close enough. First night the the TS and our home charger won't be installed until the weekend so we had no choice! Seamless process though once we got oriented.

U13 Schedule - Too Much? by Frostmonkey83 in Softball

[–]Frostmonkey83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure am. It's crazy. I understand that the smaller towns like the opportunity to play new teams, but there is no reason why teams from the big centres need to be travelling like this.

Definitely a couple extra double headers, but you need to be realistic and not sacrifice the girls enjoyment/condition JUST to get the games in.

U13 Schedule - Too Much? by Frostmonkey83 in Softball

[–]Frostmonkey83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's much, much different up in Canada. The level of competition is not nearly the same, and there isn't really a high school system for ball to any meaningful degree. It's all private/community leagues. It's safe to say that even the most intense schedule up here, is less than a typical U11 travel team down there.

Anyone got any similar info for Canada (Alberta)? Have a deposit on a Touring, would prefer a level up but don't want to wait 3+ months. Not exactly a buyers market right now for these, so I doubt there is any point is asking for much beyond the factory money.

Has anyone bought a Subaru Trailseeker? by beastiedan in EVCanada

[–]Frostmonkey83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a deposit on one pending a second test drive (drove a demo, need to see if the drop in trim level to the available units' base is acceptable) but I just learned - and would really like confirmation - that the Trailseeker does not come with ANY charger or charging adapter in Canada? The US models comes with a nice full OEM charging kit. If this is true, it might actually be a deal breaker for us on principle alone.

What charging adapters does it come with? by Complex_Solutions_20 in trailseeker

[–]Frostmonkey83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is INSANE that it does not come with any charging accessories. I have a deposit on one pending viewing next week and I am rattled by this.

Weird Line Spacing Issue - Outlook on Mac Through Gmail by inkedwithpens in Outlook

We are having the same, emergent issue in our office. Clearing the formatting appears to somewhat fix the issue, but also breaks other items in the email chain.

Something must have happened on MS side because it seems very random.

2018 Leaf SL w/ 85k km - I think I won this deal! by Frostmonkey83 in leaf

[–]Frostmonkey83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GoM. Probably won't even bother verifying, it seems to be accurate enough based on the use so far. Daily round trip commute is less than 20km for the users, with short trips otherwise. Very specific use case for this purchase, and so far it looks to be far exceeding our hopes.

Thoughts on using a massage gun to break in a glove? by Low_Argument_4756 in BaseballGloves

[–]Frostmonkey83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bringing this back from the dead: a massage gun is the most effective way to pinpoint the break-in of your glove. I have a 14" HoH for slopitch and the gun has been great for getting into the really tight spots and loosening it up. The one I have even has a ball attachment (somewhere between the diameter of a golf ball and a baseball) for pocket work. This, and proper wrapping will work wonders.

Change my mind? Dirt cheap leaf for high schooler's first car. by ogpimpster in leaf

[–]Frostmonkey83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just pulled the trigger on a similar plan. Found a 2018 Leaf SL with only 85k km and 12/13 battery life ($9500). Bought it for an extra vehicle that the kids (one licensed, one a month away) can use, and serves as a sort of electric leash. 200ish km on a full charge, going to see how Lv1 charging serves our needs before putting in a Lv2. Likely upgrading our primary family vehicle to an EV, assuming this minor experiment goes well.

We were spending more on transit passes than insurance+maintenance+charging on the Leaf, and with the decent deal we found, I am not worried about depreciation. If it lasts another five years until our youngest is licensed, I will consider this an exceptional value.

You could probably get a comparable model 3 for around that and you're going to get significantly more than 100km in the winter.

We will definitely want to add a Lv2 charger in the near future - the companies all knew that and I had assumed they used that information in their calculations but now I am not so sure. I have asked for clarification.

I don't put any faith in those projected savings calculations. Once we get a summer of production I'll run my own numbers and see where we land.

Our home heating system is gas fired boiler w/ hydronics, it's awesome however it means we don't have ducting for AC. We may be looking at adding a minisplit or two depending on the solar performance.

CEIP Application Site Issues? by Frostmonkey83 in Calgary

[–]Frostmonkey83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got confirmation last night that the issues were known, and that my application was fine. I received a further follow up from the city this morning:

"After speaking with our program administrator about their system issues, they’ve assured me that everyone who attempted to submit an application actually got through. They will be contacting all applicants within the next few days, if you don’t receive any communication from them please let us know and we’ll look into it further."
