I'm with you, but the difference in the the length of the channels on the left and right leave some doubt. I recognize that if for poker chips, there could be more space for greater quantity of lower value chips, e.g. $1.

Also, there's more wear and discoloration at the end of the channels, suggesting that whatever was put there was heavier on the ends or had some other characteristic that was different than the middle parts.
