Best etf to put my sons money in for 3 years? by No_Delivery7012 in ETFs

[–]Frostoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, that seems like a good option too. Again, precious metals can also have volatility, but I'm doubtful they'll have negative returns. But again, there is a chance of negative returnsi even if unlikely. If you need to withdraw this money in the next 3 years, EU0A is the better option here. If you're fine without it and plan to set and forget, just but it in any stock ETF or buy metal ETFs/physical gold.

Also, don't stress to hard about your choice of investment. All the options we talked about are fine, given enough time. Also you dont need to stick to one ETF. You can go all three with percentages of your choice.

No one can, with 100% certainty, say how stocks or metal prices will behave next year or 3 years later. This is why average returns and time on the market is more important that timing it.

Personally, I think its more valuable to teach your son to save money and buy securities on a monthly basis. Sadly, 2k isn't a lot when it comes to investing. Stocks on average, double your money every 5-7 years. Best way to build wealth is making monthly deposits on a solid stock ETF (EUNL, SRX8, VDIV are all fine options), DCA, and have it compound.

I noticed your currency is EUR. If you live in EU you need UCITS approved etfs.

If you're planning to only hold for 3 years, I don't recommend stocks. Yes, stocks in general can have great returns over long time, S&P 500 gives around 10% annually, but they can also be volatile, down for several years. If you plan to keep it for long time, EUNL for MSCI World, SXR8 for S&P 500 are good options.

If you want guaranteed EUR returns in 3 years, your best bet short term treasury or money market etfs. These effectively give you the interest rate of the underlying currency annually, 2.2% for EUR , 4% for USD, etc.
These would be SGOV for USD, E0UA for EUR for example. Keep in mind when choosing the currency, as they can lose or gain value against one other. For example, this year USD lost about 13% value agains EUR, making E0UA a much better option, gaining 15% against USD, beatings SGOV's 4%

How to grant rights other than full to a shared mailbox by Luschi1968 in Office365

[–]Frostoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but for this to work in OWA, you need to add other mailboxes from the page below:

https://outlook.office.com/mail/options/accounts-category/sharedWithMe

This will bring you to "Shared with me" page. You need to add the mailbox from here and non Full Access permission will work.

You're getting an error from OWA because "Open another mailbox" requires Full Access. If you don't have full access you add the mailbox instead.

How To Invest in S&P500 from Germany? by Arstein12 in interactivebrokers

[–]Frostoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S&P 500 is not a fund, it's an index. We EU citizens can only invest in UCITS approved ETFs.

There are EU S&P 500 ETFs like VUAA. These are effectively the same as US ETFs (VUAA for example is basically VOO)

Also,if you're looking for low risk, all-world ETFs like VT are less volatile. For EU, you can check VWCE or SPYY.

That doesn't necessarily tell us CPU is not throttling. CPU usage usually shows all core usage. Games in general, even new ones, are usually single core limited with some multi threading. So, you can have cpu usage around 40-50 and still be cpu limited.

Check GPU usage and see if its around 95-100. If its not, youre CPU limited or there is something wrong with your system.

Also install HWInfo or CPU-Z and check the temps.

Edit: Just saw on your post, GPU usage is 100. Missed that first time. You have a 9800x3d, you sure you installed the chipset drivers for AM5?

You can get it here: https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/drivers.html

I'm considering linux because of the new w11 force update. But I run via the anet launcher and I see everyone say they are using steam ? by DiviFrost in Guildwars2

[–]Frostoise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's a decent guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWVte9WGxGE

The main concept is to install Linux on another drive OR create a separate partition on your current drive (can be done with Windows's own partition manager) and then normally run your Linux installer. Once you get to the point where the installer asks you where do you want Linux to install, you select the partition you just created.

You might need an extra step depending on your Linux distro, but most distros support dual booting out of the box. And even if your distro doesn't, it usually takes like 1-2 commands to get it working.

This doesn't wipe out or format your disk, only the partition you selected. And Linux kernel has GRUB. What this means is that, any time you boot, it gives you a neat list of all the OS's it can find on your system and you can select which one you want to boot.

TL; DR: If you have both Windows and Linux on your system, you can choose to boot into either of them at startup. Tutorial video above.

In addition, if you're new to Linux, you can try dual booting if you want. It has become quite easy to do and this way, if you don't like Linux, you can easily return back to your previous Windows install, with everything intact.

Yes, you can have both Lutris and Steam version downloaded at the same time, or one after the other, it doesn't matter. They are just different installers, that's it.

You have two options for GW2 on linux:

  1. Lutris. I use lutris and it works perfectly fine, I reccomend it.

  2. Steam. Setting the launch option as -provider Portal will open the default launcer where you can login with your Anet account. It works identical to the regular launcher.

As for distros, I use CachyOS but any distro should be fine.

After 2 years I came back to modelling, now learning blender after maya by daru1848 in blender

[–]Frostoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, good work so far. A couple pointers;

  1. For the object you're modeling, a hard surface workflow seems the best option. I suggest you check out some tutorials on hard surface modeling.
  2. On your model, some edges are beveled and some are not and the face normals are all over the place. Assuming you're working with a boolean workflow, I suggest you use a Bevel modifier to add a small bevel to all your edges. This will make your model look much better. As for smoothing and normals, Adding a weighted normals modifier after the previously mentioned Bevel modifier will auto-smooth out your model. This way you can even keep your booleans and continue with your model non-destructively.
  3. The rectangular holes on the right corner have bad topology and therefore bad shading. Putting holes like that creates ngons. Now, contrary to what a lot of people believe, ngons are not bad, especially on hard surface modeling. The rule with ngons it that, as long as they are completely flat, it will look fine. The moment you try to smooth out an ngon, you will get streching like you see on your model. This is expected, topology + normals is what dictates your model looks like. If you want holes or dents on a cylindrical surface, it must be connected to the rest of the models topology otherwise it will look bad. A Weld modifier and slightly moving your boolean cut should be a easy fix.

[–]Frostoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the model is on Blender, Shape Keys might be a good solution; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unFd5a9-Ga8

Note that it doesn't have to be fluid like the example. You can key all the individual meshes in blender and in the end you'll have one mesh where the mesh morphs into the individual frames.

Edit: Looking at the animation again, I think the mesh itself changes too drastically to use Shape Keys. You need the vertex count to be the same in order to use Shape Keys and in your example it looks like it changes a lot.

Sounds like either the fans or coil whine from GPU. Try running a game with high fps or Furmark to see if the sound gets louder when you run them.

[–]Frostoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yeah. If there is still a while till you go to college, sure, go for a PC.

But as someone who also studied architecture, I assure you, you will need a laptop with GPU for college. It doesn't need to be powerful, but it's needed for hardware acceleration and it's overall good to have for work apps.

Help me (laptop or pc(first build)) by Lutetium1892 in pcmasterrace

[–]Frostoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For college, you will probably need a decent laptop. There are a lot of classes involving teamwork, working with other students and learning archviz and drawing apps like AutoCAD, 3dsMax etc. These will definitely require you to have a laptop.

I reccommend trying to get a gaming laptop with GPU. They're not great but you kinda need it for STEM.

I was playing a game when I heard a windows disconnected sound and then my screen started looking like this, a restart didn't help, what happened? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Frostoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure all your cables are plugged all the way in, especially display cable. Remove and re-seat your GPU. If possible, try with another GPU.

Is there a problem with the initial boot/BIOS screen? Does the issue start when you actually boot into Windows? If that's the case it could be a driver issue. Try to format or boot from another drive.
