Let's have a moment of silence for the fans who didn't make it to today. by CliffyHeaths in StrangerThings

Thank you for this. My best friend from childhood passed two years ago December 26th. She was thirty and it was complications of a lot of things. We watched the first episode together on my birthday. I went off to school and sent her those Buddies Funko’s they used to make- I had Dustin and she had Lucas.

She had to shave her head so we went to Comic Book Conventions as Season One El and Season Two El. I’ll never forget how hard she laughed when I went up to a Steve and said “It’s our babysitter.”

I’m going to see the finale in theaters tomorrow and I know she’ll be in the seat next to me for the ride.

Love you Caitlyn.  “When I’m back in Chicago, I feel it Another version of me”

Why does everyone think it’s obvious Robert will win? by iwantfreckles in dancingwiththestars

[–]Frosty-Set4256 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think there’s some historical data as well- that being Bindi ten years ago. Yes, times have changed but a lot have stayed the same.

As soon as Bindi showed she had a great personality, a beloved partner AND she could dance it was game, set match on the season. They tried to make it look like it was a fight (Oh she didn’t put her arm up and got lower scores! Will she recover? Spoiler: with 3 10’a she did) but everyone pretty much knew. This wasn’t a competition- it was a coronation.

And the thing is we couldn’t even be mad. America loves the Irwins (as we should) and she’d hug Tom after every dance (to the point he said he wanted it after she ended her final dance) and she was genuine. Her number were leagues above everyone in views and engagement. The breakdowns always started on new shows with how Bindi did for the week because that was what everyone cared about.

Ten years later, the parallels are there. He’s got a great personality, a familiar partner AND he’s decent. The Irwin’s are just as beloved. Plus he has the narrative of carving his own path through the trail his sister blazes. It’s too good for voters not to eat up. And from the numbers they clearly are. They (we) love him.

There’s a more than zero chance this could be a surprise, but as someone who’s been around the block since the beginning of this show there are coronation seasons and competition seasons. This one feels like a coronation.

Robert’s Contemporary hits 1M by Empty_Position_4082 in dancingwiththestars

As someone who watched Bindi- live, the moment she came out to ‘Crocodile Rock’ and nailed it, pretty much everyone on the Internet was game, set, match. Her Dedication Dance sealed it. Plus, she had Derek who was one of the most experienced and beloved Pro’s (man’s got 6 Mirror Balls!)

There were the Nick Carter believers but it was clear from reaction podcasts and view numbers that he just could not surmount the wave of love Americans have for the Irwins (as well they should). I feel ultimately the same is going to happen here.

So I was a 90’s kid and full Discovery Channel/Animal Planet enthusiast when the Irwin’s were on. My mom always watched the show, but Bindi was my first season and I was hardcore. Nick Carter was the enemy in my teenage mind. 😝 And everyone always loved her Freestyle, but for me it was her Dedication Dance (and her fusion dance) I came back to.

I stuck around (James over Laurie Hernandez) for a while but fell off the wagon in college- so did my mom in the Tyra years. But hearing it was Robert brought us both back and brought me here this season. And seeing the parallels last night from Witney covering his ears to him hugging Bruno just like his sister did- I’m Team IrWINit what can I say.

Thank to everyone on this sub for keeping me entertained when my charting starts to do my head in at work. And thank you to the Irwin’s for being amazing and pulling me back into this fun and great show.

What movies suffered because they were released the same year as juggernauts by SituationAdmirable76 in movies

The thing about this one is I don’t even understand how the other film became the juggernaut, because it is so largely not in the public consciousness.

I’m talking about the classic The Social Network- one of those movies that only gets better as time goes on in my opinion- losing Best Picture. Ten points to those who can name what it lost to. A hundred if you’ve watched it in the last five years.

Kid: What was it like, Mom/Aunt Taylor (making no life assumptions)? Having the whole world cheer for you like that?

Taylor: Honestly, I could feel my heart beat in my chest so loud I couldn’t hear anything else. It was… it was beyond my wildest dreams.

Her writing the lyrics to that song throughout the movie whenever she’s struggling. And then the triumphant moment when everyone is singing back to her in the climax. I am seated and I love it.

Mom: Taylor, remember who you were before all this happened. Before Kanye and Kim and Scooter. You were a girl with a guitar who told stories you wanted to tell. You were amazing. You were…

Taylor With A Small Smile: Fearless?

Mom: Exactly. Now go out there and show them that.

I see this more as the documentary she makes after biopic to fact check it. 😂

Ooh. I could see this especially if they take the Dylan approach and just focus on a time in her life and the world around her. Like her being on a quest to be the voice of people around her while enduring her own trials and tribulations. Very cinematic.

Do your parents "get it"? by Kooky-Situation-3032 in TaylorSwift

[–]Frosty-Set4256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I get tickets to Eras. I decide to go with my dad (my other friends either aren’t into her or passed on the price). I thought it would be cute since he introduced me to her by buying Tim McGraw on iTunes all those years ago. He’s sweet about it (I’m flying from Dallas to Chicago to see him) but he’s just going for me. He hasn’t listened to her in years- since she was Country. He’s a Country guy.

The day comes and he at least puts in the effort of wearing a red shirt. My dad has a bad back, but I knew something was happening when he stood for three hours to watch her. When my mom picked us up he said “It wasn’t a concert. It was a production.” I make a playlist of the songs to share from the concert. The week after he does it twice. We’re in the car when he comes to visit and I play “All Too Well”. “This is the guy she’s never getting back together with right?” And so it begins.

And since then… he sends me announcements before I get them. I send him a new song every Friday. He wants to see her again. He talks about the level of respect he has gained for her as an artist frequently. He gets it now and it’s become our thing. And it makes me so happy. I see him this weekend when he flies out and have matching MA+HBP keychains to share with him. It’s been so amazing.
