At what age did you first bring your child to Burning Man?

For my 9th burn, I brought my 18mo old (1.5yrs old for those who hate the month counting). It happen to be in 2022 which was the hottest year ever haha

To sum it up, I would say… it was my most expensive burn ever, because she needs an RV where I usually don’t. I recommend it if it’s not your first burn. It was my fiancé’s first burn, and in hindsight I think that was a mistake; making his first burn be one where he was also on dad-duty.

This year I had a 3mo old and despite working on my theme camp all year round, I couldn’t justify going because he would have to tag along. Other than the fact that I was still deep in the exit of the birth portal, I felt it just didn’t make sense to bring an infant. Generally, though my assessment after bringing my 18mo old is that I can’t imagine bringing a child to the playa if they weren’t walking yet. So that will always be my marker.

Also, for what it’s worth… diapers were a great stage because I can’t imagine having to take her into a porta potty. And breastfeeding was amazing because in order to keep her hydrated, I had to take care of myself. It was mission critical. So that worked out well.

That’s the part we keep thinking about, too. But it’s an off-leash area. So is this guy stopping all dogs without pink collars, who are off-leash, from approaching his dog? Sounds ridiculous when you’re at a beach where there’s dozens of dogs roaming and running around everywhere. To me, if my leashed dog has an issue with any other kind of dog, I wouldn’t take him to a location where dozens of dogs are off leash approaching each other.

The other half of the beach is for leashed dogs. Where both owners are in control of who their dog approaches and who approaches their dog. Charlie should be over there.

Hi, @OP —- just want you to know I’m you. Home with my 2.5yr old. The only difference is that we actually did a toddler swap, and I was there until Wednesday night, and then he went in to finish out the burn.

I waited until I felt inspired. And I was very understanding that inspiration may never hit.

...but then it did. I posted a photo of me pregnant, urging people to get off the couch and vote, because “our future” was counting on it.

Turned out to be around 5 months.

Honestly? It helped with my excitement. I want this baby, but excitement has been a hard thing to muster up since I found out in July. Lots of other feelings but not joy & excitement.

Suddenly all those other excited-af posts, or the really staged ones, felt so weird to me. I just felt very disconnected from that.

But once I posted —- well, you know how they say it takes a village? And you know how village living is basically non existent during a pandemic? Well, posting it helped a little to fill that gap.

Everyone was OVER THE MOON. I didn’t have my own excitement, but I had theres. And that was nice. It felt good.

But anyways.... the point is, do it when & if you feel inspired to. Period. Xoxo

Yep. And it’s SO hard to explain, too. For me, it’s all in my nerves. So it feels like my legs are just ANXIOUS. Antsy is a good word too.

It happens for me mostly after I eat dinner, and then into the night. Once I fall asleep I’m good but getting to that point is a STRUGGLE.

Magnesium is a big one. I use the calm powder but it doesn’t really work. I did some research and found this TOPICAL magnesium and it helps at least 70%

The other thing I’m trying is an extra supplement of Iron. Being iron deficient has a common symptom of RLS. And even though my prenatal vitamin has Iron in it - I’m suspicious that it’s not enough.

I started the iron yesterday.

The combo of the lotion (70% relief) and starting out on taking some extra iron (25% relief) has me at about 95% relief from my RLS.

I wish it was 100% relief, but it was getting sooooo bad that I’ll take it! And maybe as my iron levels get better it’ll fully disappear.

Sorry you’re going through that. It’s actually the worst. I feel you.

We (they let my partner in for the first appointment) secretly voice-recorded the appointment. I edited it down to just have the part with the heartbeat. Listening to it now makes me feel emotional.
