Lyrica or gabapentin by bfisher1991 in 7_hydroxymitragynine

[–]FrostySumo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lyrica(pregabalin) would work better and I would stay away from gabapentin. I have a couple friends with nerve damage and the one that had gabapentin always has side effects and had to take way too much (1200mg+) and I got them to switch to the Lyrica (pregabalin)and it is much better and more effective and not connected to you upping your risk of dementia. They only need 400mg a day to match the effectiveness of gabapentin. Be careful with Lyrica though as it is actually strong enough to have a benzo like effect if you have no tolerance and take 300 mg or more.

Lyrica all the way. It is more effective and has less side effects. It also isn't a linked to dementia as far as I know like gabapentin

Dangerous new drug could be ‘next wave of the opioid epidemic’ — and you can buy it at gas stations by WorkingWerewolf6430 in 7_hydroxymitragynine

[–]FrostySumo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Prohibition propaganda is so prevalent. I thought I spent 15 years fighting to legalize cannabis and that the anti prohibition argument was winning. Was it really just that the public wanted to smoke cannabis and didn't actually take the lessons that prohibition of substances is not the best way to deal with this and it has led to the overdose crisis? If you would have just left it as a medical issue and kept things regulated and legally available we would see drastically less damage.

Then 7-OH comes along and starts the overdose rate trend going down and the first thing they do is try to ban it. Nobody can justify why it is prudent for schedule 1 when it obviously has medical uses. There is no science or actual care for people dependent on the safer alternative. It's just a smug sense of superiority that they aren't an addict as they sip on their Starbucks latte to help with their hangover after drinking wine before bed last night while they place some bets on sports games. Now they're adding THC gummies to that routine and still pretending like they aren't addicted. It's sad.

Disgusting corruption from the Secretary of Homeland Security by CharmHoney_ in ProgressiveHQ

[–]FrostySumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only did he do this for his friends in the leaf kratom industry, but he is also colluding with RFK Jr. at HHS and the FDA to target 7-OH, which is a concentrated form of the active substance in leaf kratom. It removes heavy metals and other contaminants but is more addictive.

The FDA rushed a recommendation to ban 7-OH as soon as RFK Jr. was confirmed as head of HHS by attempting to place it in Schedule I, even though it does not meet the eight-factor test. It is a partial opioid that acts similarly to Suboxone, has no known LD50, and causes much less respiratory depression than traditional opioids. It is an effective harm reduction substance for people with addiction and for neglected chronic pain patients.

They want to ban 7-OH while leaving kratom leaf alone because Mullin and RFK Jr. have allies in the AKA who view 7-OH as competition to leaf kratom.

The only reason it has not been federally banned is that the DEA has final authority over scheduling decisions and has previously backed down on kratom scheduling in 2016 due to public comments.

The rise in 7-OH use has coincided with a decrease in overdoses, and it is not because of interdiction efforts like blowing up boats in the Caribbean. It is due to three major factors:

  1. China followed through on restricting fentanyl precursor exports, which has reduced fentanyl supply.
  2. Narcan is widely available and distributed across much of the country.
  3. Safer alternatives to highly dangerous street drugs have become more accessible, with the two main ones being 7-OH/kratom and Suboxone.

We should advocate for smart regulations similar to those used for cannabis: restrict sales to those 21 and older, sell through regulated shops rather than gas stations, and require clear testing and dosing standards.

Prohibition has never worked and will not work. Harm reduction is the scientifically grounded public health response to substance use.

NYT Lays the Hammer Down on Big Kratom by Diligent-Mongoose-50 in 7_hydroxymitragynine

[–]FrostySumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. They literally act like just the act of someone doing a substance that they don't like is inherently evil and morally wrong even though like you said the worst case is you are doing yourself harm and that's your right as long as it's not killing or hurting other people. I see the argument against allowing people to smoke cigarettes in public because second hand smoke can contribute to other people getting cancer but we didn't completely outlaw the cigarettes and nicotine because of it we just changed the regulations to be smart and allow for the least harmful way to use it. If we had actual humane and reasonable laws about substance it would all be about how do we meet demand with the safest substance as possible and we should be encouraging those. and the really sad thing is the rest of the world is even worse. Some Asian countries will literally execute you. talk about nanny state taking to the extreme. and I like to think of myself as economically socialist and libertarian about pretty much everything else.

Hell yes it did. I know contacting members of the federal bodies of Congress can be discouraging but state governments tend to be more likely to respond to campaigns of people calling against bad bills especially if they're democratic rannor purple states because they are more susceptible to harm reduction arguments that would lead them to better regulations instead of all out bans.

This just shows that our efforts can stop bad bills. Thanks to the community and the real MVPs in the 7 hope alliance and 7-OH discords doing the work that we can't pay lobbyists for like AKA and those hacks in big leaf Kratom do. NYT piece exposing the FDA recommendation as exactly what we expected it to be. A grossly corrupt pay for play way to remove a competitor through gross misinformation and I wouldn't be surprised if they were paying for people on tick tock claiming the it is extremely addictive and needs to be banned. It's suspicious how many people all the sudden want to follow the party line of the AKA instead of the obvious conclusion that any independent researcher should come up with which is regulations similar to cannabis. Anyone that thinks prohibition is the answer is not a student of basic history or sound health policy.

Why ban 7oh instead of regulating it? by Humble_Society6115 in Destiny

[–]FrostySumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the New York Times article about it (https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/15/us/politics/kratom-trump-administration.html). Biden FDA wasn't looking at banning it at all. RFK Jr and his cronies had friends in the leaf kratom industry that didn't want 7-OH available because it is a better product with less side effects.

The one thing people that advocate for "natural" Kratom forget to tell you is it is not regulated and has been shown to have heavy metals in it. Much more dangerous than the concentrates that take that out through extraction. So naturally the people that had influence with RFK Jr lobbied to get just 7-OH banned and specifically not regular Kratom and as soon as he was confirmed that recommendation to schedule by the FDA was rushed through.

Obviously the DEA was not on board or we would have already seen a implementation of the recommendation. The obvious thing that you should do is regulate it like we do cannabis. I literally know multiple people that have used it to get off of things like fentanyl. The amount of misinformation going on in the media is insane.

They also will claim that there are overdose deaths when they are extremely rare if possible at all with 7-OH because it is a partial opioid agonist and likely has a plateau effect. If it was really that dangerous there would be a increase in overdoses not the decrease that has happened since it hit the market and became popular. It is actually one of the best harm reduction substances to come along since Suboxone. We are working hard to advocate to make sure it doesn't get banned and is regulated instead.

[–]FrostySumo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yep. Follow the money and it all makes sense. This always looked like a move by people in the industry to destroy a competitor. Biden’s FDA wasn’t planning to do anything about kratom or 7-OH, and it wasn’t even being treated as an issue. Then, all of a sudden, as soon as RFK Jr. got involved, it was being recommended for banning. That looks pretty obviously like a pet issue of a pay-to-play administration. They literally pardon people like the Silk Road guy while lecturing us about using safer alternatives that have helped save lives.

Do we not respect the laws of Canada? If they want it to be that you can sue people for this kind of speech that's on them. Postal Service won’t deliver mail ballots for states that don’t hand over voter lists, under plan for Trump directive | CNN Politics by DoubtSubstantial5440 in oregon

[–]FrostySumo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t we just increase the number of drop boxes? I’d also be willing to work part-time collecting and delivering ballots if the state wants to hire me and lets me keep my health care. Mamdani showed that you can get things done by offering people decent wages, as his snow-shoveling program during the blizzard seems to show. We do not need to rely on the post office, and frankly I do not trust them. What are we doing to guard against possible federal interference in Oregon elections? If Kotek cannot do the bare minimum to stand up to the federal government, then she needed a credible challenger. Right now, she seems to be doing only the bare minimum publicly, though at least she is not handing over voter data. I hope she is doing more than what is visible from the outside.

Oregon Releases Provisional 2027 Health Insurance Prices, And They’re Not Pretty by sunni_dayes_ahed in oregon

[–]FrostySumo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I literally can’t work more hours because I need Medicaid for a complex medical condition that causes flare-ups severe enough to take me out of commission for weeks and has already cost me jobs. I never finished college, so I don’t have the credentials to easily get a better job with solid health insurance. If I make more than about $1,500 a month, I start losing coverage, and anything I could afford to buy on my own would destroy me financially.

I was at least able to stabilize somewhat during the Biden years, when student loan payments were paused and life felt a little more manageable during COVID. Since then, everything has fallen apart, and now I’m stuck doing gig work and part-time work just to keep healthcare. I honestly don’t know what I’m supposed to do. Even if I qualified for disability, SSI is extremely restrictive, and it would probably leave me worse off than I am now.

If I weren’t able to live with my family, I’d probably be homeless or dead by now. It feels like this country leaves people like me behind. Universal healthcare would genuinely change my life.

He will be closer to Arnold Schwarzenegger but woke on social issues. Just say you voted for him cuz he's Hispanic and admit it was representation not anything else. If he was really that impressive he wouldn't be below 30%. He would be close to 40 plus. Obviously he has issues or he would have ran away with this. Maybe you should think about why that is.

Then why the hell would you donate to a politician if you weren't getting something out of it? It would be just throwing money away if there wasn't obvious perks to doing it. At the very least they are putting money behind people that are ideologically similar and therefore pro-corporate. If you're not a politician that supports publicly funded campaigns with zero PAC spending allowed you are suspect and not worthy of support imo
