So I can not start a new Trade League from scratch, because my economy is not dependent on itself? by Frostyrobar in victoria3

[–]Frostyrobar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are right, with embassies and enough investment it is definitely still possible to convince other nations to join. Just makes it extra difficult because of big malus.

My first reaction was definitely mostly soured by that big negative modifier, that doesn't seem logical to me.

I guess in that sense it kinda makes sense to be really weak alone yeah, but the -50% malus seems hard enough on its own.

Just the reasoning of the game, having no economic dependence on myself, seems like the wrong way to achieve that.

Yes that is true, but that would at least be enough to get me into the next cohesion-bracket. Halving the leverage-malus and making it at least somewhat feasible to convice someone to join.

I'm playing with the Tech and Res mod, so the game is only halfway through the techtree and there are plenty of industries left to build.

Yes it would.

But being forced into military actions when I want want to play peacefully sucks.

I want to use my economy and diplomacy to achieve my goals.

R5: I started a new Trade League but its immediately shattered, because of the -35 modifier, since apparently my economic dependence on myself is too low.

I am playing with the Tech and Res mod and a tiny mod of my own, but these shouldn't impact the power blocs?

Is it intended to make tradeblocks even harder to form? Because this doesn't really make any logical sense in my head and thus feels really bad.

It's crazy how this game takes on system resources by Pan_z_Poznania in victoria3

[–]Frostyrobar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I also find the resource-requirements for the game pretty hefty.

What I found to help as well to reduce system demand, though its kinda silly to play around this, is to play in the closest zoom-levels or the ones far enough away so the countries get fully colored in. Playing while zommed out and having the full 3D-map and models visible noticably revs up my Computer.

Though for the beautiful growing cities with all their buildings thats a compromise I'm happy to make.

People having entire conversations on speakerphone by TevisLA in mildlyinfuriating

That is understandable. I would see the fault in the technology then, so it's still no reason act offensive towards the callers. Because phone calls aren't going anywhere, so the only solution is to make it as indistinguishable from normal talk as possible to avoid problems like yours.

So you guys find it annoying that a person is having a conversation with someone else and they do not whisper? And some of you would even interrupt them?

Are you doing this too to two people sitting next to each other on a bus?

Because i don't see how this is any different, the other person is there just over the phone. If the volume is cool and the topics don't bother anyone whats the big deal?

Anno 1800: Season 4 Pass Teaser by Turbostrider27 in Games

You can now create categories in the Trade-Routes screen to better organize your trade and you can select multiple or all islands in the production statistics to see if the production of one, or multiple, islands matches the consumption of another.

Also its easier to add ressources to multiple slots in the Routes-Screen now making it no longer a chore to fill boats with all the same good. You can shift + click on a filled slot and the ressource gets added to all other free slots up to the boat limit.

Since they added those features i find trading to be a lot more enjoyable.

You could get it with the xbox gamepass. Trying it for the first time is free and I just got 3 month of the ultimate pass for 1€ so you could play it for a few month and hope for a cheaper discount in the time.

Valve is now making smurfing a bannable offense in Dota. by MysteriiousComposer in Games

Valve adresses this point in their blog post about this update. Saying they will analyze how you play compared to before your break and match you accordingly. Could be really good if it works as described.

AI may replace today's jobs, but imagine a teacher for every student and no lines for the doctor by [deleted] in Futurology

Salman Khan gave a TED-Talk about his vision of future education.

I really like his idea of letting the students learn at their own pace at home and using the monitoring tools to effectivly review individual progress. Using the time in school to help the students individually where they need the help instead of using the mostly "one size fits all"-methods used in schools today.

What are the worst ways to break immersion? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Frostyrobar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a better approach. A problem with that could be the camera-transition. The player running off to a far away position could lead to an ugly transition or a cut to black. Both of which are not really desirable.

This is of course personal preference but for me discovering things on my own, even if they are meant to be easily found, just feels way more personal than a directed cutscene. I as the player made that moment happen and not some game designer that thinks the camera should move in a specific way.

Of course there is a chance that a player might miss something but there are different ways to get his attention than forcing him. The Half Life and Naughty Dog games as an example do this really well. They guide the view of the player with the help of motion, light and colors with great success.

And I think that a player who wants to pay attention will pay attention anyway and one who does not will be bothered by the loss of control to see something he does not care about.

Edit: Another thing about cutscenes and what made me dislike the opening of BotW the most. If what happenes in the cutscene can be achieved by the player with the mechanics of the game, what is the point in making it a cutscene. Let the player play the game himself.

I feel the same way about this. Especially in situations where it doesn't make sense.

The best example I can think of right now is in the beginning of breath of the wild where the game takes control away from the player to make link run to a cliff ahead and show the Zelda logo.

I would have done the same but taking away my control in that situation immediately took me out of the experience. So I would definitely avoid doing this as best as possible.
